No, I would not buy a HomePad, it would have less functionality than an iPad and iPads are really cheap.

I have used this for few years in my cars the first unit was Xbox dongle no longer . I have the new one you have now. On a 10.2 inch android system in BMW X5 and the I drive still works, quite cool. Thanks John. Good content

I live in a country where we don't use any Assistant, internet problems, but when I'm abroad I see how many people are enjoying this new way of carry on with their life in this way and I'm glad to be alive while it's just happening.

@@Chemy. when home tech arrived in our homes we were amazed, but innovation slowed down and automation is normal. nobody thinks twice about people talking to their kitchen. now concerns are faced towards microphones and sensors that are on 24/7 to make this technology possible. is your information being sold? is the manufacturer trustworthy, but your device hackable? these are loose ends in todays age for someone like me to deal with. (a loose end is a problem that hasnt been taken care of, and may hurt you later on)

so how do you charge the android tablet? do you take out the dongle and charge it? or can you do a pass through like usb to usb through the dongle to the tablet to charge while using the wireless apple carplay?
This was a pretty insightful video. I thought you were going one direction, then you threw me for a curve. The ramifications of Apple losing this 'smart assistant' battle could have a massive impact on what the company (could) become. When i say could - i mean the most dominate tech company in the US by a wide margin. Smart Assistance (Amazon & Google) are already an option to be built into the slaps of a new home - once that becomes the norm for even a quarter of our population. Watch out! You can only have room for two in this market. Ironically, these devices are the one products in which Apples price premium for brand association is trumped.
Remember when you’d buy an iMac and it would come with a remote that would bring up a media centre. I imagine a homepad would be an evolution of that.

You can jailbreak second iPhone and install CarBridge to get more apps on your CarPlay tablet
I was SO hoping this would work. The glaring problem with this solution is that the tablet cannot be charged while connected to the carplay dongle. I'd like to be proven wrong though! If anyone knows of ANY tablet that supports charging while connected to a dongle (via a USB Y adapter for example), please share if you have direct experience.

I find it hard to understand why Apple hasn't been working a lot harder to make Siri the cutting edge personal assistant and why they have let it lag behind Google's assistant.

Is there a way to buy a cable for the CarPlay dongle that will connect to that and the tablet but allow you to charge the tablet when in use, I plan on doing this for my car but I don't want to be removing the tablet all the time just to charge it...

I've got an iphone, ipad, macbook pro, homepod...etc... however, I've gone with Nest, google home mini and hub for the home... i've got alexas for music around the house, other than bedroom, which has a homepod... it all over the place atm as they all seem to excel in different markets.. no doubt Apple's "Homepad" will look great, however I've not been sold on the Home software so far, no Siri.
Running iOS on android hardware would be a dream? Come on son....

The A12 Bionix chip that's in the iPad, iPhone XS/XS MAX is literally the fastest thing out there.It beats out the "incredibly tuned" One Plus 7 Pro and the Samsung S10+ in a lot of benchmarks. Also the 7nm chip (A12 Bionic) is incredible compared to the crap chip some Samsungs come with. The snapdragon Samsung S10's are better. If you are talking about the buzzword features like bigger battery, more ram, and all that stuff. I couldn't care less. All of these phone makers can't optimize android OS for their hardware and it shows. More ram and it's still slower than a phone that has only 4GB of ram? Get outta here son.
@@bderkhan2925 that's it, The A12 is great because Apple needs it to be. Other than that, the batteries on iphones are mediocre, ram is just enough for an iPhone. While budget phones are coming with 4 cameras, Apple this year will come with 3. On top of that, this year iPhone will have biggest notch as competitors have moved to punch hole or pop-up camera. Don't get me wrong, apple's processor are best but other than that their stuff is good enough only even though they can provide better.
@@bderkhan2925 all these phones are fast enough for what they do... The cool thing on android is that you can choose which specific hardware features you need. Most people don't need the power of a A12 bionic, but maybe they need a headphone jack and don't like notched displays.

hey I have a question , if I plan on putting this tablet behind a dash from my car , if the tablets turns off , does it turn on back after I plug in to a power source or I have to do it manually ?
ive done this as well with my old galaxy tab s so now I have a 10.5" Oled CarPlay lol. biggest issue, my tablet can't charge and use the dongle at the same time so I have to charge the tablet every night indoors

Probably no need for a separate product from Apple. I think it would better if the Home app could be redesigned to work like CarPlay on your regular iPad (or any other touchscreen iOS device even)

Hi Jon, thank you so much for this!!! Could you share the version of the Fire HD8 tablet that you tried this with? There is a 2016, 2018, and 2020 version. I need to know to buy the right one. I already tried this with a Samsung S9+ and that didn't work. If you can share the model of the Fire HD8, I could save some money and time. Thank you anyway, it has been a great advice!!!

Home displays are a way for google and amazon to sell things twice. At home we have an iPad attached to a wall mount, it’s connected via iCloud to HomeKit, via AirPlay connected to our speakers. Take it off the wall which you can not do with the crap from google, and watch Netflix, play games... if you are alone. Don’t reinvent the iPad, it‘s more flexible has a way better screen ...
This adapter no longer exists on Amazon. Is there anything else that is compatible for kindle fire for Apple CarPlay dongle usb? I feel like most are designed for car usb and don’t have an android APK companion app.
I have exactly the same problem. In the commands some people said that you cant charge your tablet while its connected with the adapter too. Did you find any good adapter?
