Very true about "slide marks". Walk into the General Store in 1928, buy tobacco, flour and sugar. Take Peace dollar out of pocket, slide across the counter to pay (which causes a few unevenly spaced marks). Then like magic, TPGC says "see those handful of lines?, its cleaned"!! Ha ha........
Professional grading services are sorcerers at best. The notion of 'cleaning' has gotten way out of hand in this hobby. It's gotten so bad that many often state that a coin has had an old cleaning. Old! So now they can see back in time. Now there are mountains of coins out there that have actually been cleaned, whizzed, polished, or thumbed, etc, and most of them are quite obvious. It's the widespread overuse of the word 'cleaned' that often leaves many collectors shaking their heads side to side, while the remainder would surely jump off a bridge if PCGS or NGC told them it's the right thing to do. I think the most spurious misapplication of the cleaned grade is against well circulated coins. The type of coins that have been slid in and out of idk...10's of thousands of cloth lined change purses and cloth pockets during the decades they were circulating........only to have someone 150 years later say the coin is cleaned! OR, that a coin "probably had an old cleaning". It gets silly. I've literally busted out laughing at coin shows hearing some of the remarks. 3rd Party Graders are remarkably similar to entrenched, entitled politicians and bureaucrats. They have 2 constants in their world: They are masterful at separating people from their money while offering no value in return AND they pontificate from up high.

I remember many years ago the coin was graded by someone who owned the coin, someone in the coin store/shop. So when you bought it, it was already hand graded

This was a pretty fun test. Overall i did pretty decently. I was right on the money with a lot of them, though I called the 1924 S a 58, and missed on the 2 30s peace dollars. Also missed on the 82 cc and called the 1916 D half au cleaned. Other than those, was right on the money with the others.
LoL I got 3 right but for me that's a huge improvement from getting 0 to got three. Was fun.

Not American and dont have any of these coins and was extremely close with the problem free coins. The problem ones i couldnt really pick up from this, but my grading was much lower than than uncirculated, which they came back as. Apart from one which i gave a 64. Is MS 50 really worse than cleaned uncirculated
This is why I hate buying ungraded coins. They all cleaned!
I don’t trust grading services anymore. Too many are rushed thru and all give MS-70 that don’t deserve it. I now have 2 UltraBreaks as PCGS MS-70 and they have obvious scratches on the coin. Also have some NGC MS-70s that are the same way. Basically they are slabbing volumes of coins for profit 😢😢😢
I want to talk about the CRM, I ordered a few Maple leafs $20 coins 2024 and they took quite a bit of money out of my account, I've never had a a mint deal with me in that kind of way I mean they didn't rip me off but I've just never seen business done that way! I also heard that the Finland meant is going to cease to exist in 2025 they're shutting the doors and closing them up forever after 100 and something years! Sorry I Got off base...
I am better at grading than any grading co. I would grade all of my coins at m.s. 68, or higher, and that is better.😊

I'm not particularly good at grading hi-grade coins, particularly problem coins. That's why when buying these coins, I go by the next grade lower than what I think it is. I didnt see the problems on any of the problem coins, other than the obvious bag marks and the spots which dont really affect the grade. Hard to see most of these problems in a video and thru plastic but I dont think I would have recognized most of them even in person up close. I'm better at the lower grade coins, but I thought the Standing Liberty was only a Fine.

Honestly PCGS is not that good at grading coins here lately, they are missing and messing up a lot.
I think I can😂! Can't wait for the Mega scratch and dent. Some look between 64 to 65! I screwed up those grades 😂
