    This tech just makes me wonder what Nintendo will do for their next console. Ever since the Switch came out Handheld PC's and EGPU's have come a long way in making a hybrid gaming machine akin to a switch on crack. I hope this makes them realize they have to bring their A game for the Switch successor.

      @BahhBahhBrownSheep 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      they won’t

    • @Swenglish
      @Swenglish 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Nintendo has been doing computers (consoles) for a few decades now, but they are still fundamentally a toy company. What they're going to have to do to compete is make sure to be significantly cheaper than everyone else, because otherwise, their only real selling point is exclusive titles, specifically Mario and Zelda (and we all know how that worked out for Sonic when Sega could no longer compete in the hardware market). They're never going to be on the cutting edge of computer technology. As a toy company, they're in the business of gimmicks, and innovative peripherals probably won't be enough, because most people are happy with an X-box controller equivalent as alternative to keyboard and mouse, maybe with an additional trackpad or optical sensor for first person shooters. Nintendo's role in the market may have to be the affordable toy alternative that can be sold to parents, semi-casual gamers and people who can afford to buy multiple pieces of hardware.
      As long as Nintendo can find a way to stay in that pocket, they'll be okay. The question is whether it will be worth it for Sony and Microsoft to keep making consoles.

    • @Fadexpl
      @Fadexpl 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lmao. They will put out console with specs already outdated at launch (like pretty much all of their consoles except N64), but it doesn't matter because fanboys will scoop it up anyway.

    • @Swenglish
      @Swenglish 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Fadexpl The reason the N64 happened in the first place was because Sega of America pushed for the development of the technology but Sega of Japan weren't interested, so Silicon Graphics went to Nintendo with it. Nintendo saying yes was somewhat out of character, because they very much have a philosophy of avoiding the latest tech (although to be fair, by the time the N64 came out, I'm pretty sure there were arcade machines that had higher specs; they would just have been too expensive for the consumer market). But they still stuck with cartridges instead of switching to CD-ROM, for fear of piracy. The N64 *was* in some ways outdated on release. And Nintendo would not consider that a failure on their part, because they're not a tech company, they're a toy company.
      Nintendo is not in the business of providing an alternative to PC gaming. That's what Microsoft does to grab more of the market (Mac users, people with low-end PC's, parents with disposable income, etc), and what Sony does to compete with Microsoft. Having top of the line specs isn't part of Nintendo's business model. They're in the business of producing marketable toys for a wide market, that are fun to play with, and specifically opt for lower end hardware in order to keep costs down.
      If anything, Nintendo at this point is pretty close to only competing with emulation, which is probably why they're cracking down so hard on it.

It sounds like it could be basically like a PS5 level of performance given the specs on the GPU are similar to the PS5, but obviously, it will have slower ram and use way less wattage which is why I said series s level of performance. It should be significantly more powerful than the series s though because that console already generally draws not much power for a console and the "strix point halo" is rumored to have double the cpu cores and double the gpu compute units. If companies let you feed that thing like 50 watts or so, it should literally be able to replace entry-level gaming laptops, honestly.

    • @javierolavarria
      @javierolavarria 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, thunderbolt is proprietary with proprietary protocols, oculink is an open adapter interface for external pci-e by pci-sig. Intel already has plans for thunderbolt 5, up to 80 Gbps.

    • @EnochGitongaKimathi

      It doesn't work like that with both connected the eGPU is allocated all of the Oculink Bandwidth while the ports on the Dock take advantage of the Thunderbolt connection. This is actually the best way to use the GPD G1 Dock with both the Oculink and USB4 ports connected. Very decent 1440p desktop setup solution.
