THE CURE - Disintegration (live Wembley 1991)

- A good old-time live version of 'Disintegration' so much different, dynamic-wise, from what Robert and his crew are feeding us with nowadays. Sigh...
DISINTEGATION
oh i miss the kiss of treachery
the shameless kiss of vanity
the soft and the black and the velvety
up tight against the side of me
and mouth and eyes and heart all bleed
and run in thickening streams of greed
as bit by bit it starts the need
to just let go
my party piece
oh i miss the kiss of treachery
the aching kiss before i feed
the stench of a love for a younger meat
and the sound that it makes
when it cuts in deep
the holding up on bended knees
the addiction of duplicities
as bit by bit it starts the need
to just let go
my party piece
i never said i would stay to the end
so i leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
screaming me over and over and over
i leave you with photographs
pictures of trickery
stains on the carpet and
stains on the scenery
songs about happiness murmured in dreams
when we both us knew
how the ending would be...
so it's all come back round to breaking apart again
breaking apart like i'm made up of glass again
making it up behind my back again
holding my breath for the fear of sleep again
holding it up behind my head again
cut in deep to the heart of the bone again
round and round and round
and it's coming apart again
over and over and over
now that i know that i'm breaking to pieces
i'll pull out my heart
and i'll feed it to anyone
crying for sympathy
crocodiles cry for the love of the crowd
and the three cheers from everyone
dropping through sky
through the glass of the roof
through the roof of your mouth
through the mouth of your eye
through the eye of the needle
it's easier for me to get closer to heaven
than ever feel whole again
i never said i would stay to the end
i knew i would leave you with babies and everything
screaming like this in whole of sincerity
screaming it over and over and over
i leave you with photographs
pictures of trickery
stains on the carpet
stains on the memory
songs about happiness murmured in dreams
when we both of us knew
how the end always is
how the end always is... - เพลง
I'm really surprised by some of the comments here... You people really think someone who is over 50 can/should sound like they're in the late 20s again? Those days are finished FOREVER. However, love them for what they have done, and what they continue to do... the new music they make... and be grateful they're still playing the old tracks. Keep in mind that new versions will sound like new versions. The past is finished. They still have extraordinary new songs they are writing :)
Always is...
Well rock and roll hall of fame just got there and smith sounds exactly the same but a bit exhausted
I think the tempo gives a more desperate feeling to it. It suits it...
But both versions is great in their own way!
I've listen to disintegration around 1000 times (its true) the last couple of years and I love more then ever!
Ah, my favorite song of all time. I can listen to it 100 times over and over and over and love it more and more. I'm sure most of you feel the same way, too. Except for that one guy...
You're right... It's a very addictive song
It happens to me since I discovered this song, there is not a day I stopped hearing it
completely true
I’m 10 years too late…
This song has the devil's bass line.
This is already one of the most intense songs ever, because of its relentless power; listening to this adrenalised version is like being overwhelmed in a violent storm of colour and energy
I always come back here. Best version ever 💔
Absolute agreed.
No matter how many great versions (live or otherwise), this is still my absolute favourite. Intense as F*%K and brilliant.
Love this version!!!!!!
The best
Wow, it's the best version of this song ever. Marvelous!
Once the synth kicks in around 4:02 it feels overwhelming
Yeap, I just listened to this again after 15 years. I loved this part too.
Best version ever !
The drum is kicking ASS! This is the right version and played like it should be. Nice one. Back in 1989 here in the U.S. (don't know if other countries as well) we had a single CD with a B side live and had Disintegration. I still have it somewhere.
It's the "Pictures Of You" single.
The missing piece has been Boris. From 1984 to 1993 Boris' active style of drumming really made The Cure great. Of course Porl was a more original guitar player than Perry is, but Boris' rhytms really meshed with Simon's perferred style of bass playing and great music was the result.
This the most awesome rendition of this song I've ever heard! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, this brings back great memories - I was there in Wembley on this night, and remember him loosing track of the words in the 4th verse, wondering if he was going to find them again!!
Brillient!
You really need to hear their new song. "It Will Never Be The Same ", really incredible song , The Cure kicked major ass on their 2016 North American tour , Robert's voice is the same , perfect as ever ! Jason is beating the hell out of some drums , let me tell you for 3 hours straight! Reeves is tearing up his guitar , makes it look so damn easy too, ! Roger and Simon are getting down as always , ain't skipping a beat while they at it ! This group of men work there asses off and gives it there all , and blows our minds it's so phenomenal! The way they performed and bounced around on tour , you'd swear we were back in the 80's ! Hell fans are just as wild for them now , me included! '. They made lots of great music , some of the most beautiful sounds in my life ! "Underneath the Stars " is another incredible song
Agreed. However, the light show was an absolute embarrassment compared to the actual Disintegration tour. Nearly 30 years on with those years of technological advancement, paired with a much larger budget affording 10x the moving heads, that show looked like a pile of shit. However, agree - it was musically, fantastic.
"IT CAN NEVER BE THE SAME"
Jason is not bad as a drummer to me like most Cure fans made him out to be, not as good as Boris, Andy and Lol, personally I prefer Lol more cuz his simplistic drumming created a special kind of blunt atmosphere, at times eerie for dark and gothic songs. Andy is more playful and Boris is more elegant, Jason is more standard which work okay with The Cure.
I once watched an interview about encores. And Robert Smith was mentioned. Obviously every musician wants every live show to be their best. But Robert REALLY cares. I saw them in Dallas a few years back and it was the best show I've ever been to. They played for nearly four hours! With four encores. All these years later and these guys are still kicking absolute ass. Blows me away.
i started with DISINTEGRATION album...a was 13y.Then back in 89 they were in LJUBLJANA ...it was un forgetableeeeee.now I LOVE THEM LIKE BACKDAYS.album disintergration...i love slower version ,more gotic, darker more voices&sinergy...love it---------
through the eye of the needle its easier for me to get closer to heaven than to ever feel whole again
my hero
Like it was yestersay…and i am over 50…
Boris, i miss you so much
I miss 80's early 90's cure. It was brilliant.
Impeccable
The Great British Music Weekend bootleg. 19 01 1991... 4 songs were recorded to Play Out.. the sound of this gig ... fck...n awesome
This version is alot better than album version and most live versions, it's like the darkness of Pornography and Faith blend with the poppiness of Head To The Door and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, creating an ultimate huge sonic space of sorrow and looking for happiness, screaming against everything after fall apart and rise up again. This one got more emotional punches and depressively brooding.
I was there they played for hours....
Breaking Glass! Sweet.
it is such a wonderful version, thank you! (i have to check, if i already possess it)
Thanks! I've never heard this song from the 91 show. Any video? This is the glorious version they played in 89-90. I love the break part before Robert comes in for the last time. Boris rules!
best version :)
"Stains on the carpet and the stain on the memory..."
frenetic and tragic meet poetry and duplicity
What a beautiful, succinct and accurate description.
oh, i love this song. and this version is bloody best!^^
Perfect, perfect i like this version Cool
Great version!!!
Cheers with threes ;)
Amo como se le olvida la letra. Amo todo de él.
This song was my number 1 in my Fav Top 5 last Year (2009), Im still listening to this Jewel nowadays, is just Incredible how this song makes me put in the best way, in fact i sing this song while im walking down the street and dont care if the people stares at me, I Love this song as much as you don't have any clue.
This 2010 my no. 1 is A Forest amongst Fight.
I need to find an antidote to Cure my Lone soul and The Cure does That.
5 / 5
I agree. Everything up to and including Disintegration is excellent. I haven't even listened to the last few albums they have put out, but up through to 1990 the Cure was always good. Have seen them live about 5 times and they always put on a really good show - sounds different every time, but always sounds good.
Yellowjacket: “IM GONNA DISINTEGRATE YOU!”
Siri: “Playing Disintegration by The Cure.”
Robert Smith was quoted saying that the massive success that followed Disintegration and turned The Cure into an "arena rock" band (the last thing he was trying to achieve when writing Disintegration) combined with the infighting of the band members during the tour marked the "end of a golden era."
Isn't it interesting that it parallels what Thom Yorke went through during the OK Computer tour, as captured in the documentary "Missing People is Easy"? Both bands hit the peak of their success and the tour and the promotional bullshit that inevitably accompanies breakthrough albums deeply depressed both Robert Smith AND Thom Yorke. Thom Yorke almost suffered a nervous breakdown and Robert Smith decided the Prayer tour was going to be their last.
The Best One
❤❤❤
Damn!
i miss the kiss
It's like a fountain of energy.
Around the 3:47 mark that was some great improv with the lyrics
I miss Boris...
This version sounds like it's on speed!
Oh, Boris and the cocaine of the early 90s.
Boris does rule... I think losing him had a huge impact. The next guy couldn't groove the same and was too busy, too many cymbals.
This was on the "Pictures of You" CD single.
Even though 90 early were low points for the cure they did complete disintegration which was a good for the continue of the cure. Good and bad times then.
i prefer the fast version to the slow one but this is TOO fast, the entreat version is perfect
I hope that Robert convinces Boris to come back. Babacar ended in 'the late 90's, which is the reason of his departure from The Cure.
Does anyone know where the promo picture from this vid is from?? I've looked everywhere. Its really cool.
Agreed. The solo on this version is better, as is the sound because he uses a guitar instead of the 6-string bass as he used back then.
please send me the link to download the full album. these versions are beautiful
@wasuranumBORIS KNEW....BUT I LOVE THEM WITH COOPER TRUPER...ROBERTO IS THE HEART HE MADE THIS CIRCLE.......NO I DIDNT FORGET THE OTHER 2 IMAGINARY BOYS..AS IN THE START.-..
i love argentina ja
Hello, could you give me the link to this performance, or album?
th-cam.com/video/2rwNdmo2wFQ/w-d-xo.html
Was this from The Great British Music Weekend (19.01.91) or something like that? I think Ride, Wedding Present and New Model Army also played same day as the Cure
Great version! But the Entreat rendition is the best one!
has anyone else out there ever noticed that this pic of robert is reversed??
also, yah.. they used to play this one so much better bach then.. Bring Back Boris!!!
Pornography? I think you forgot about Head on the Door, and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me. Those were both great albums as well.
Can I please have it too?
was it released anywhere?
or is it from bootleg?
I always preferred this song fast live but liked it slow on the album, the bass just doesn't sound right slow live 2 me
it´s sooo fast, don´t you think?
Oh my gosh!!!
For Years I've been searching for this awesome,
mindblowing, heartripping Version of this Song!
I've heard it in 1992 the first n last Time...
What a pity that the Cure died in 1992
and didnt stop making noises!
Cheers to the wonder years 1978-1987!!!
RIP
@dano555666 what are you talking about
just put the cd one on.. I find it too damn slow but both good.
i agree both versions are perfection.but i prefer slowley .more dramatic gotish tearing apart...
When the lead guitar player left to play with Page and Plant, after Wish, the Cure was over.
song is awesome..... but the LYRICS dont match with the lyrics of the video? ?
No, they don't. Usually singers change lyrics a bit when performing live. Also, I wouldn't expect anyone to bother to get all that is sung word by word and write it down. I'm too old and too lazy for that :)
0.75x lmao
Agreed.
Simon's bass is loud, and rumbling, and so was Boris' drums. But Jason, you can barely hear his drums. I'm not trying to knock Jason, he's a nice guy, but he just doesn't fit with the Cure.
There shall be another //world tour. A brutal Pornography - centered tour.
disintegration?
Naaaaah mate, 2000 is the best. Perfect balance of speed and awesome guitar effects and stuff. This is too fast to add nice layers.
@wasuranum It's not just the drums that ruin the live performances of Disintegration these days. Robert doesn't even seem to remember how to sing it. I don't know what the Hell happened with this song. I've never heard of such a brilliant song being ruined by the same band that created it.
What is a party piece?
I think it's a big load right to the chin
A mistress or a piece of music played by a child at a party for the amusement of guests. You can take it either way.
When you were invited to share a meal in certain British and Irish cultures, you were expected to have something prepared and ready to entertain your host and fellow guests. You might recite a poem, sing a song. That was your “party piece.” It’s partly where the phrase “sing for your supper” comes from. I interpret Robert’s use of it here to signify a confession or a compulsion to say something he can’t take back once it has been said.
I think they play their songs too slow the last fiftheen years! Miss the nerve, look a bit tired. Roberts sings better when the tempo is higher.
Good but too fast, so...not so good.
I think you meant 1978-1989 (or 1992)
And yes, The Cure is almost dead now. Specially because Jason really sucks! he has no creativity and gives NO order to the songs... 4:13 has some interesting songs that would've sound way better with a better drum pattern.
This the most awesome rendition of this song I've ever heard! Thanks for sharing.
Can I please have it too?
