    Dude, can't get enough of this stuff. I can't believe it's 2024 and the way things are now.. I remember 1978 like it was yesterday all because of Van Halen. Keep up the great work, I wish there was something I could do to help, it's so great. Subscribed. rip evh.

    Michael Anthony gets beat on a lot by a lot of people and I just don't get it. You take his vocals out and a MASSIVE part of Van Halen dies, it's a secret sauce and it worked with Sammy in Van Halen, too. That chorus in 'Love Walks In'? Crazy good.

      Quite simply the greatest backing singer in rock history to me. Worked especially well on the first two albums, but he always had a great range and still does today.

      Obviously, bro. I'm just saying, as a BAND, Anthony had a great role and his contribution helped the songs.
      Eddie WAS Van Halen, he wrote ALL the songs.

    Great documentary , really looking forward to each new part. Really nice style to it. Incredible persistence from the band to hang in there. Reminds me a little of the Anvil movie, it might be rock n roll, but there is little glamour when you're hustling at the start to get your name out there and keep the dream alive

    Even though i ALWAYS sided with Ed(been a Ed head since 1978) and Alex i still do respect a lot of the things Dave brought to the band and i often wondered? How ego'ed out could he really have been in the earliest days? I mean it was Dave that suggested and was all for naming the Band after the two brothers.
    Egomaniac's do not do something like that because it takes the focus off of them. I think Dave was just a intensely eccentric person who could come off as a jerk
    if you did not get his humor. He certainly is one of a kind you gotta give him that!😁

    • @iconsremembered
      @iconsremembered  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      For what it's worth, I completely agree. I'm sure Dave became very difficult to deal with as time went on, but in the early days, I do think there was a sense of "all for one, one for all" about the band. Up until about 1981 or so, I think the band was still mostly a family. Ed said as much in interviews.
      Dave was/is complex, eccentric and not well-adjusted to normal relationships (he's said this himself in interviews), but he was extremely driven and had a grand vision for the band. As much of a genius as Ed was (and Al was very talented too), I do think there's every chance that without Dave, the VH brothers might never have made it.

Probably just coincidence, but who knows if that wasn't the influence for that Nigel Tufnell dialogue?

    I hope there's more.. I love the photos of old newspaper articles! I hope for this to succeed, but will tell you that everyone I know has listened to every Obrecht/Rosen interview, and probably read every book. The more specific (quotes, for example) the better. I've posted this on a few music sites and hope you see a bump today.

    • @iconsremembered
      @iconsremembered  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for the comments - it's all pretty valid. I understand what you mean, and I realise the hardcore fans will have seen/heard most of this. But I am still trying to occasionally uncover something new. And if not, then at least I think there's something valid in arranging and presenting the stuff in (hopefully) a decent way. Aside from some exceptions (especially Alan's 1984 doc), I feel like that hasn't been done enough.
      It's also worth saying that this isn't only aimed at the hardcore fanbase. Of course, I want them to like it, but I hope that this will appeal beyond the long-time fans and be something that can also show and tell newcomers a little about EVH and the band.

    I have really enjoyed watching all 4 parts of this documentary. I listened to your interview about the doc on the Dave and Dave unchained podcast. I am sure that this endeavor is a ton of work on your end. I know we have one more installment to come which I am looking forward to. Have you considered possibly continuing to make more parts beyond part 5 once the band had become successful (past 1978 and their first record)?

    • @iconsremembered
      @iconsremembered  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, and thanks for saying all that - really happy to hear. Yeah, I hope to do that, but I guess it depends on a few things - one is that I have to find a way to get permission to use photography of the band without infringing too much on copyrights etc.
      It also depends on whether the audience maintains or keeps growing with these parts - if people stop watching, then I'd have to think about whether it's worth the work. Not financially necessarily (I don't think I'll ever make much or any money out of this), but more that it feels more worth doing if you know there's a public appetite for it and people dig it.
      The final challenge is that it's maybe trickier to cover the years from 1978 without using the music. That's one I really have to think about!
      But in general, I would certainly like to do more. And comments like yours help with the motivation to do it, so thanks again 😊
