Thank you for the video. I mostly use mine for commuting around town, and agree that I'm always checking the odometer and thinking about the amount of fuel left in the tank!
Me too! Thanks for coming by my friend!
Appreciate it I’m installing mine right now and was wondering what the heck to do with the second line (vacuum line). I was thinking just cap it as well but glad I could confirm
To solve the seat removal issue I bought a givi monokey plate and just bought a used top case, the seat is a LOT easier to remove when you can take the rear case off. There are other options for quick release plates for luggage out there as well.
Good video, fair review.
I have the same tank in translucent/natural so I can see the fuel level (in most light it looks white).
Range anxiety was super real until this tank cured it, it’s my #1 upgrade so far.
As for the seat I have a Seat Concepts seat and it doesn’t have the bunching up your stock seat shows.
I don’t think the 5.3 needs a R/H petcock; it’s easy to lean the bike over to transfer the trapped gas so I look at it as a safety ‘reserve reserve’.
Other things I’ve noticed with it is better wind protection on the highway (slightly) and the weight is largely moot- I rarely have it topped off when doing anything where that change in CG would be noticeable.
Definitely makes the bike look bigger, no doubt about that.
I agree with everything you said...and that last part is the worst...The bike feels like a completely different machine to me now. I loved the DR over the KLR because of how aggressive I felt like I could ride it, and now I realize most of that was the smaller tank. It feels pretty much like a KLR to me now.
Greetings
As always another fantastic detailed video 🇺🇸🎉🍾🇺🇸
When on reserve, are you able to use the entire fuel or you have left some unusable fuel?
Keep producing more videos.
What bars are you using? I need something taller then stock. I'm thinking of getting this tank, thanks for the info.
Maybe mine was a victim of poor QC, but its an absolute bitch to fit. The holes for the mount screws are significantly misaligned and after numerous mount/dismount cycles they finally caused me to strip one thread completely. Helicoil it is, but now I'll have to figure out how or if I can get the tank to actually fit with some sort of mod. I've never stripped threads on the bike in 10 years, super frustrating.
Perfect size tank. The 6.6 gal. looks so stupid.
The larger tank looks like it would carry the fuel load weight farther forward as well.
You can spin the fuel inlet on the carb to allow fuel to gravity feed in without air bubbles, there are you tube videos that show how to do it

With the collection of bikes you have I’m surprised you don’t have a 500 exc for your dual sporting
I bought the WR450F as my "poor man's 500 exc!" Haha
@@mxgryan lol can you plate a wr450f in your state? I think the market would go nuts if Yamaha brought back the old steel framed wr426 and plated it. Added fuel injection and electric start and made a cheap reliable dual sport around 275lbs. Everyone knows how reliable these engines were.
whats the range
Didn't see you post this. I like my DR. The stock tank is supposed to be 3.4 gal, and I get about 50 mpg. That would be about 150 miles, minimum.
About 140-150 is what I get, but that means I'm getting anxiety and need to get off the trails or backroada at 100 miles and it's a pain in the butt.
@@mxgryan For sure. I think I'm interested in the IMS tank (4.9 gal). Have one on the XR. Also, if you ever upgrade your seat I wouldn't go with the Sergeant. I got mine used and the previous owner had one on it. My butt is still not happy by 70 miles.
I only ever got about 120 miles on my stock tank. Depends on gearing and how hard you ride it and what type of riding of course
@@DirtRoadLife1 Yeah, mine is also stock in terms of jetting and exhaust. For me I average ~ 50 mpg. So a 3.4 gal tank gets me good distance. But that's assuming Suzuki was honest about the tank size.
do you need the vent hose? i saw someone with this tank but no purple hose.
If you don't want to risk gas splashing on you, i reccomend it
A-chair-bis? Haha we always called it Ack-er-bid.
Ah-chair-bees is the correct way

Thank you so much Mike.
Horrible carb lol... okay. How to say you don't understand carbs without saying it.
