    there is a much easier way than faffing about with a hacksaw simply use a standard plumbers adjustable pipe cutter, it will cut through the outer sheath and score the armour wires in seconds perfectly straight around the cable

    It’s a lot easier to push the shroud over the cable and the part of the gland needed before you expose the steel wires that can make it harder to do this

      Nasty mate, I feel for you.
      This happened because the content provider failed to show that stage of the process because he’s not experienced enough to teach others yet.
      He struggled himself that’s why it was edited out 😂
      If it’s any consolation l, I was reckless back in February and lost a tiny bit of my fingertip due to a slip up with a fresh blade. Was savage

    Excellent video👍 clear and informative.
    One thing worth mentioning is that the steel wire armour should not be visible at the bottom of the gland assembly when you've tightened up the last waterproof nut with the rubber seal. If it is then the armour has been cut too long and the gland is not waterproof, despite the outer rubber shroud.

  • @muckychimney
    @muckychimney หลายเดือนก่อน

    The shroud should always be fitted FIRST. Easy way to do it and get the cut right is place it over the cable end, push hard and the cable will be seen better, cut the top of the shroud off as required, then take the shroud off, turn it around and slide it back onto the cable past the point where the gland is going. The install the outer parts of the gland. Then make the cable off. Doing this way you are less likely to forget the gland and less likely to splay the armourings on the cable when you fit the gland.
    You also need to mention that this is a CW - Waterproof gland for use outdoors. Do not use BW glands as they are for use inside.

    Quick few questions
    So what are you connecting the SWA to. Is that just 2.5 twin and earth from the ring main. And on the otherside at the shed for example would you do the same. Connect it to 2.5 twin and earth using terminal blocks and then connect up your sockets
    Secondly the SWA i saw online has difference colour cable. Grey, black and brown. Is this the same stuff.
    Also I was going to trail the cable underground in conduit. Have you got it under the slabs?

    • @stirious8407
      @stirious8407 ปีที่แล้ว

      You connect it with the earth coming from the consumer unit, use a WAGO 221 2-way connector to attach them together or if the junction box is metal or has an additional earthing terminal inside the box (usually found in the corner of a box) you will need a 3-way WAGO 221 connector to add an additional earth wire to the box :)

    Sparky quoted me £300 to do 4 of these, thanks a lot. Didn't think it would be that difficult .

      And how did you get the electrical cert after doing them? Or have you just invalidated your house insurance?

    I would never do that! I would slide the gland over the wire first then take the outer insulation off and bend and cut the Armoured steel off. I would never show someone how to take a saw to it with that last bit of wire going underground 😮
