You have NO IDEA how much this argument has gone on in my local SF group🤣 Thank you for voicing this out. Now I can use this any time someone comes in searching for "real" Street Fighter lol.
The rules of Street Fighter are not: "play neutral to win", the rules are: "deplete your opponent's health points before the time runs out", playing Neutral is a tool for this purpose when both players are good enough to counter each others flowchart pressure, it is part of all fighting games, but players think it's some mystery holy grail to achieve, why would you play neutral against an opponent that doesn't antiair you when you jump in? The confusion comes from the fact that this state of play (neutral/footsies) is very fun to watch and play, so you want to see it all the time, and you can actually you that if you play a game literally called Footsies that no one plays. Jwong made a similar video a couple of months ago, explaining how if a fighting game is optimized to the limit by players, neutral basically disappears.
With as many problems that SF4 had, I would argue that it's final iteration is the "Realest Streetfigher of them all" and my personal favs are ST2NW and Sf3TS!😂😂

i just learned about the fighter's history vs street fighter lawsuit and saw that theres some footage from the lawsuit uploaded to youtube as under "fighter's history vs street fighter ii character comparison". thought it might be a fun thing to cover :)
Real street fighter is street fighter that can be played in the traditional different styles (rushdown, keep away, reactionary, mid range etc) vs the rushdown only sf we’ve been getting since sf went full esports. Real sf allowed players a level of expression that allowed players to play characters in entirety different ways ie (Justin wongs Rufus vs Ricki Ortiz Rufus). This arguably hasn’t existed since 4. Real sf forced chars to deal with projectiles vs giving everyone a means of avoiding them (this was particularly egregious in sf5).
Some good points here. And while my fav game (3s) has a universal tool to negate projectiles, projectiles fulfill different roles such as mid-distance pokes (ryu EX hadouken), Lockdown tools to allow you for pressure/advance and setups (Remy's parried LOVs, Gouki's red fireballs and air fireball oki) or actual zoning and pushback tools like Urien's corner sweetspot Aegis pressure. That still allows for a great amount of player specific expression, so different players deal with these tactics in unique ways because they have defensive and mobility options.
@@ZEBASS 3s is a perfect example of player expression. Each char has players that if you’re a regular watcher you know exactly who’s controlling who based on their style of play. But in both sf5 & 6 this level of player expression is arguably nonexistent.
But not only "honesty", they complain even about straight up upgrades of older characters or changes in mechanics. I've seen people un ironically complain about new dj compared to the old one in sf4. Guilty gear xrd Rev took out many cool moves like side winder, in fact it was a real complaint back then and of course was labeled as "not guilty gear"... The great thing about street fighter is that every game has a different style or mechanic. Third strike is completely different to super turbo in the way you attack and how you open up your opponent. Everyone has there favourite version of street fighter it just depends what game play style you appreciate the most
For me street fighter isn’t about mechanics but it’s about what it represents. Without street fighter there would be NO esports. I don’t just mean the FGC. Evo moment 37 is the single most important moment in e sports. Without this, there is no twitch or TH-cam gaming, there is no gaming tournaments for every game imaginable, many of our favorite TH-camrs wouldn’t have a platform. This made it cool to not just play video games , but to watch and create platforms for skilled players snd make it main stream
Most people who start throwing around the word "real" as part of a complaint are typically about to tell you why the thing they don't like is "fake" and expect it to be understood that all other opinions are invalid
Do people forget that Vega, Bison and Sagat, Balrog were at first just bosses in SFII? They weren't necessarily designed to be playable characters. I also see why people don't play Alpha much.
Why do people not play Alpha much? I've always considered the Alpha series to be peak Street Fighter personally. Followed by 3rd Strike. I'm always wondering why Alpha series doesn't have much support now.
@@SaintKines My guess is that it just has too many wacky infinites in it. The characters move quite abruptly and at far distances compared to the other games which enables this. This is not a jab at the visuals or anything like that. I think it looks great.
Real street fighter online is complaining about the current game and saying the older games are better. Even though the people complaining would be crying how unbalanced and broken the old games were Real street fighter in real life is playing the game no matter the rank or how good you are.
If you freeze the T. Hawk jump in at just the exact frame when trying to block it as a cross up, you'll see Rufus actually starts to face the other way, but then he ends up facing right again when he's hit. This is how the unlockables work, the blocking animation moves the characters in a way that uncrosses them up.
Roofle speaking facts as usual! I know it's not the topic of the video, but I was thinking: to fix throw loops, couldn't the just add crouch tech OS just like it was in SF4? Do players dislike crouch tech?
SF for me is fist bumping my youngest as we start a Ft5. SF to me is wondering what version of Evil Ryu we'll get each game. SF to me is trashing on "block button" fighters because they can't defend against cross ups. SF to me is trashing on anime players that take 15 minutes to finish their combos. SF to me is trashing on versus players because they snort too much coke. SF is footsies, neutral, concise combos and the coolest FG characters in existence. SF is life. That's what SF is to me. The real question is, why isnt everyone still playing the best fighting game in history... SS4? Victoly, people. Victoly.
Real Street Fighter is Flying Heavy Attack over something, a standing Medium Attack, a special or super attack followed by up to end it! No cross over, no EX moves, no sore fingers!
Real street fighter is anything that came before the abomination that is sf6.... and possibly sf5... and also what happens outside my apartment building every day.

Real Street Fighter is obviously SF1 in the FGC's eyes
Most people who start throwing around the word "real" as part of a complaint are typically about to tell you why the thing they don't like is "fake" and expect it to be understood that all other opinions are invalid
The classic "I'm right because everyone else is wrong and olny I know about this"
Fgc elitists at their finest
Even though the people complaining would be crying how unbalanced and broken the old games were
Real street fighter in real life is playing the game no matter the rank or how good you are.
If Guile doesn't have his invisible handcuffs, it's not real street fighter. I will not be taking questions at this time.
Great topic, reminds me of the whole Smash debate n what constitutes a "real" fighting game
Funny how the pros never argue about this and its always the youtubers and silver players that want to discredit a game just because there bad at it.
Real Street Fighter is at the Arcades
arcades dont exist anymore bro
Last time I heard this argument about real street fighter were people bitching about Abigail being a character in SF5.
What is “real Street Fighter?” Whatever the hell the person complaining thinks it is.
It's all about fireballs and uppercuts guys, any deviation from that is heresy
This video made me miss SF4 terribly. Can we go back in time?
Real Street Fighter is Ken and Ryu having a fireball fight.
Let’s gooo love these discussion vids
"real"street fighter is nipping into mr Porky's on a friday night with friends, to carry on a session after the local arcade closed for the day.
Real Street Fighter is the Friends we made along the way.
Any game where you can go unga bunga is true street fighting. In a street fight nobody knows what they're doing
What do you mean more than one selectable character? That's not REAL Street Fighter(1)!
Only street fighter 1 is real street fighter, I love dislocating my fingers to do a fireball
Victoly.
Real Street Fighter is Footsies by HiFight with a Street Fighter skin.
Real Street Fighter is
Flying Heavy Attack over something, a standing Medium Attack, a special or super attack followed by up to end it!
No cross over, no EX moves, no sore fingers!
So in summary real Street fighter is a Ryu mirror match.
I love the punchline of "All Street Fighters have just straight up BS garbage" as it shows two Deejays raw Drive Rushing at each other into combos.
Real street fighter is anything that came before the abomination that is sf6.... and possibly sf5... and also what happens outside my apartment building every day.
Maybe it's like the Madrid soccer team where "real" is Spanish for royal!
The real street fighter is friends (FGC) we made along the way.
Vega was the OG degenerate character, that’s why they replaced him with a skinwalker in V
Maining Vega in sfv did permanent mental damage to me. He was so bad and kept getting worse.
Every iteration has been different. And there's always someone who cries about it lol. That's real streetfighter lol
No matter what we all think, we can all agree two versions of street fighter were never real street fighter.
Street fighter the movie the video game.
And the original Street Fighter.
