      I think the majority of "uncomfortable" perceptions is due to historical clothing being more form-fitting. It's then compared to modern form-fitting clothing which often is uncomfortable because it's poorly and cheaply made.
      But we know that historically, clothing was made to fit you properly and wasn't mass produced in a sweat shop somewhere.

      I've worn high church & heavy choir robes, and full Japanese kimono properly, as well as watched others wearing the same. The idea that it keeps people from moving, or constricts their bodies, seems to be something projected from viewer's experience with lyrcra and spandex and other elastic materials which DO squeeze and constrict. If it fits properly when it's put on, movement is fine. It will constrict only as much as it constricts when put on, and no more than that... meanwhile the body adjusts slightly, and it's simply comfortably supported.

      I remember I wore this long skirt a lot in highschool, and beforehand I thought it would be easier than a lot of the shorter skirts when cycling, because I'd not feel as exposed. (Early zeroes. Most skirts were insanely short. 2/10 do not recommend.) I did not take in account that a long and wide cotton skirt can blow up in your face if you're cycling in windy conditions. Besides that, I had very little issues while wearing it!

    • @zanet391
      @zanet391 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      So agree. People don't believe me when I say that tight pants that don't have any significant give (aka anything other than athletic leggings and literal tights) are far more restrictive for me. No buttons or zippers to undo (just flip up), I can fit in big pockets without worrying about weird bulking up, I can add invisible layers if cold or leave the legs bare if warm (no shaving needed and natural AC!) and...the shoosh. I'm pretty sure the shoosh is what first lured me in. Is it a pain in the ass to iron a mid-calf full circle skirt? Yes. But the swoosh is worth it. The only pants that come close to my ideal are the extremely wide-legged palazzo pants that kinda look like a skirt in certain angles (the hem needs to be at least 60cm for me).

If you can walk around/ balance without anything under your heels, then walking in high-heels will feel like putting training wheels back on!
      I'd also recommend doing this without the shoes at first in case you stumble--that way your feet and ankles are free to flex and less likely to sprain if you lose your balance, since they're not encased in inflexible shoes.

I have to keep replacing my slippers b/c eventually the padding inside gets compressed, and if I'm not wearing thick enough socks, they slip right off! I either have to wear 2 pairs of moderately thick socks, or wear one pair and splay out my toes as far as they'll go when walking up stairs, otherwise a slipper will slide off as I raise the foot to the next step!

The way she stims, pays attention when she’s in big crowds, the way she’s able to pick out details, the way she she speaks because she has to think very carefully to use the right words, the way she comes across as rather cold or manipulative but is actually a very compassionate emotionally driven person. She reminds me of a lot of women on the spectrum including myself. It’s nice because she’s really cool and it’s not a super obvious thing. It’s not a character flaw or a joke or a mystery. Whoever made the decision to reach out to Bernadette for a sponsored video was really on their A game, what a brilliant move at pinning down your target audience. I might actually try and check this show out for costume appreciation. It really is incredible how much a show/film/any media can benefit from setting out and following a set of rules for their setting, specifically so that it Means Something when those rules are broken. I hope more mainstream media takes this lesson to heart, because I would die for large-scale representation of accurate/researched period dress as a whole.
    And can I say, Ms Banner's whole look is glorious in this video. Hair? Perfect. Vest? Stunning. Puffy-sleeved blouse? To die for. I am experiencing some truly delicious fashion envy.

    The costume and set design in this show make it so immersive that the fantasy elements feel realistic, they don't jump out at you, and the variety of men's fashion in it is wonderful too! I love that they haven't shied away from depicting how men of different ages and levels of society dressed, and that they included some of the 'ugly' styles of the day. The moments where you do get pulled out of the immersion are so infrequent that they get a free pass because everything else is so good. It was also really satisfying to see so many different shapes of people without making them charicatures, there's no cheap jokes at the expense of someone's size. The balance is just so good, it's a feast for the costuming eyes.

They are soft, appropriate for her age, and easy for her move and run in. He meets some resistance from Rose because she wants to look “fashionable”, but he perseveres and convinces her to use her new clothing and dispense with her other clothes. After trying them on, she decides she likes them.
