I have been told by the company who sent this stove that the Campingmoon XD-2F Rocket Stoves is made in China but designed for them in Japan
Can’t get away from the made in china sometimes, but so long as it wasn’t patent infringement.

Totally beyond the price I paid on Aliexpress, amazing value.
This has to be the best built Chinese Back Packing stove I ever bought for $25.00.

I have a Windmaster and MSR Deluxe, that's why I'm curious of this stove .
Very detailed review thank you so much..Now I know it's a clone of the Windmaster.. The advantage of this stove is much cheaper than the original.. If you are on a budget and you like the technology of the Windmaster, this is the best alternative! Thanks again 😊

That stove offers great performance and looks like it would take some wind. The manufacturer could shave a few grams by only using three pot supports. Four might be good for heavy pots, but a canister-top stove probably shouldn't be used for large, heavy pot.

I have this stove.
It has replaced the BRS in my cook kit.
The BRS is more than 1/3rd the weight, but is not as efficient or wind resistant.

I own the Soto Windmaster (and Amicus, Fusion Trek, ST-310 for that matter), and it is without a doubt my favorite canister-top style gas stove. I have many, many stoves, and on occasion I have bought the Chinese knock-offs as well. When I saw this one come out a year ago, I was intrigued, mostly because I have various 'Camping Moon' brand adapters that I found to be very high quality. For $30, I was curious how it would compare to the actual Windmaster that it was obviously cloning. Examining them both side-by-side, I'd say they made a half-decent stove for $30, but it fails compared to the Windmaster in a couple of key areas. 1) The pot stand: they changed the design of the burner cup outer profile, and as such, changed how the pot stand hooks onto it every so slightly. This change actually makes it much less sturdy, when compared to the Windmaster. As I like to use the 4-flex pot stand for larger pots, the stability is pretty important to me. I notice that most of the time with the camping moon version, only 3 of the pot supports actually touch the pot (by a considerable clearance) because of this extreme deflection allowed by the attachment mechanism. 2) the regulator does not work as well as the one on the Windmaster. It doesn't seem to hold a low flame nearly as well...to the point that I am planning on disassembling it (destructively if necessary) to see if there is actually functioning regulator in there! I'll admit I haven't tested it over temperature or canister fill, it just seems to not be as adjustable in direct comparison at room temp.
The case, however, is nice (although unnecessarily bulky).
Interesting comparison. I have also started experiencing the issue of regulating the flame at very low levels. I find when I set it, it slowly diminishes on its own. Thanks for commenting

As has been mentioned by you and previous viewers, this is a knockoff of the Soto Windmaster--a wonderful camp stove. I own a Windmaster and I love it! It is very wind resistant and very quick to boil water. As you mentioned, the flame adjustability is terrific! It has been mentioned by other You Tubers, that the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe is ALSO a knock off of the Windmaster.
I agree, completely with Jim F, regarding intellectual theft; I will gladly pay twice the price (or more) for authentic products, and in the process, stay miles away from unethical business practices.

Well not me. Prices have to be competitive and several of these companies you’re paying for the brand. Look at the Yeti for example, I have a Stanley cooler at a fraction of the price, my friend wanted the expensive brand, camping at 92 Fahrenheit outside and even hotter inside the bear box my cooler held ice just as many days. You guys can have the “originals” I’ll settle for same performance and less $.
I have had a Soto Windmaster for a while now, and I absolutely love it. It came in a nylon stuff sack, and I suspect that Soto is aiming it at ultralight campers (gram counters). That nice case with yours must weigh almost as much as the stove itself.

That looks like a nice stove Mark. I have never used a gas canister stove, but recently I have been thinking about trying one. I haven't been seriously looking but I definitely like some of the features of this one. Like you I prefer wood stoves and have used alcohol stoves. And we get fire bands here in Ontario as well, so this makes sense and if it speeds up the time it takes to make my "Java" all the better! Cheers my friend.

You mentioned refilling canisters - Camping Moon makes a canister that is designed to be refillable (the disposable ones are not, though they can be but it is recommended to only refill to 80% capacity). Their canister holds 110 grams. It’s a bit pricey but looks to be quite sturdy. It would be a little heavier than a disposable, but safer. Maybe you could review that in the future.

I hope this is licensed by SOTO, I have the windmaster and it’s a great stove along with its slightly smaller sibling the Amicus.
If remote stoves are to peoples liking SOTO do the Fusion Trek, a windmaster on legs.
If one uses a heat exchanger style pot it’s an even more efficient use of gas and a bit quicker.
The carry case looks really nice.

The stove is more close to the MSR which is a close copy of the SOTO, the SOTO part is the pot stand.
The stem and igniter is MSR.
Bought one of these from Aliexpress, should be in the mailbox in another few days.

Hi. My name is Mike and I'm a stoveaholic. Mark, I guess that makes you an enabler. The features of this stove at a low price makes room for it in my stove fleet.
I think it would be interesting to do a comparison video on pots. New pot vs fire-blackened, materials (SST vs Ti vs anodized Al), and factory coatings, as you showed on the Sea to Summit pot.

You should test it with a mug pot, like the Stanley from your recent video, not a full review just 2-3 minutes would be enough, because a lot of people who'd buy this stove that's all they really carry .
So, I took your suggestion and used a 750ml titanium mug. Boil time was 1:55. Slower but still pretty good. I could see some flame wrapping the sides. Less surface area in contact with the flame. Thanks for commenting

i have this stove and its quite hard to source out here. There is another stove (less than $7) that uses the triplex pot support and it fits quite nicely on this campingmoon...so you get the quad pot support and the triplex...

I am curious about the fire bans you experience. How are you notified of these bans? omg you have the best toys!!! I have to know about that pan you are cooking with (pb bread). Gotta see more of that. I love the name of that stove "Camping Moon." Seems like they chose that name to attract us feminine spirits. Got a call from my nephew this morning who lives with my 96 year old mom. Their electricity goes out often, and I had to send coffee. This product would be awesome for their house.
So many questions😂. I am using my Sea to Summit set to bake the bread. Video on the set and on the bread coming. Fire bans in Nova Scotia are a bit convoluted. Between March 15th and October 15th each year we have a fire bans season. No fires are permitted every day between 8am-2pm. At 2pm an update is provided that will allow fires the rest of the day (green), fires after 7pm-8am (yellow) or no fires 2pm-8am (red). There is a website that we can go to for updates. Hope this helps
I’m in California, you’ll see the signs as you enter a campground, on off roads and even on mountain highways, if a ban changes while you’re camping either the camp host will tell you or perhaps the rangers, it is your responsibility to make sure you’re aware of the signs as conditions can change from day to day, fires only in designated areas and is a huge fine not obeying. If you’re careless and cause a forest fire you can be criminally charged and do jail time.

This small stove is very strong in flame, but The Rotary Switch (valve) of My XD-2F is very loose at the first twist, almost no friction ? Is yours the same ?
Sorry to hear about your experience with the stove. I just checked my stove to see if it had the same issue. My valve appears fairly tight with no looseness at all and turns very smoothly.
Thank you for your confirm, I've read a review in amazon and 2 comments in Aliexpress, they had the same issue with me. Maybe their quality control is not good. I've heard this brand export mostly for Japan Market although it's China brand. I really like their design and quality, especially the adapters and connectors for camping stove, very solid and feel good in quality.

The only 'down' side, (and you made no comment) is the 'case' looks pretty 'raw & dry" you need to spray the case with silicone and let it dry, then repeat, then you should be good to go.

I have the GSI collapsable and absolutely love them they come with heat exchanger and excellent nonstick on the bottom which I personally like, last thing I want to do while camping is scrubbing pots or wasting water if I’m dry camping. The lids are hard anodized and I think they’re way better, I’ve cooked plenty in them and I’m happy.
Did yours smell of burnt plastic when you started using it? Mine arrived a few days ago, and now it smells after being used. I saw some smoke coming from the burner
Strange. I don't recall the burning plastic smell on mine. Wonder if there was something inside the unit. Did it clear up after use?
@MarkYoungBushcraft the wierd thing is, it started smelling after a couple of days using it. I even thought I might have dropped a plastic piece over the burner, but when I saw smoke coming out of it, It really seemed to come from inside. The only part I can think of that is made of plastic is the wire of the piezo igniter. If that is the culprit, I'm hoping it burns but keeps working. So far, it is working a 100%, which is good, because the thing is amazing!

@@MarkYoungBushcraft thank you for your excellent review of this stove. I would be interested in your results with propane. Some of the butane regulators do not like the propane pressure. I’m not a fan of Chinese intellectual theft. Occasionally though, they charge so much from other places that that it’s a bit ridiculous.
I have to say though that the small issue of waste with these cans has become a big annoyance to me. That can had to have minerals mined, processed and shipped, then made into steel, shipped to be made into a can, shipped to where it’s filled, shipped to the store. It may be cheap, but that’s all high energy, high polluting. Then it’s used for a couple hours, and in most cases thrown out. Perhaps recycled, but that too is a high energy process, using most of the same stuff listed above. Not that big a deal to me, because, though I am concerned about pollution, I don’t buy into the global warming stuff. However, so many of the camping channels have people that do, yet for the sake of a tiny convenience, they don’t seem to care. Like what? They want the world fixed, but they can’t be bothered to fill a fuel can? Seriously? They just want the government to magically fix it with not one little tiny thing they’ve done? It’s supposed to be us in control, not them. Plus it’s never free when they do it.
Not to mention what you said at the beginning that you have to carry that darn can around, and when it’s like 1/4 full, do you carry 2, or throw it out and take a full one? Nah. These were popular for a while when I was young, and they went away because of this. Don’t see a reason for them to make a big comeback
I do agree, I'd never not use an alcohol stove as my main stove - but I don't live in somewhere that gets many fire bans. I understand gas if you're through-hiking in fire-ban trails but I really don't get people choosing to make so much waste when it's not necessary (e.g. the fetish for UK hill walkers/campers to use them at on 300 meter high hills in slightly damp conditions). It's like a billionaire who'd buy a standard family sedan every day and set fire to it at the end of the day after using it for a couple of miles... just because you CAN afford to make that waste doesn't mean you SHOULD make that waste.
@@darthkek1953 Yeah, exactly. It’s become one of those minor things that sort of become a symbol to me of a larger issue.
Like I know they can be refilled, but the majority of people won’t, and to be honest, the majority of people should not be refilling them, as it it potentially very dangerous.
No argument from me Jim. That is the reason I have not used gas stoves much in the past. I plan to refill the canisters to help mitigate the impact and save a bit of money as well
@@MarkYoungBushcraft Yeah for sure. Refilling would change it a ton. Much less waste, and no worrying about bringing half full cans etc….but there are a lot of people out there that I wouldn’t want to see doing that because of safety reasons, and I’m willing to bet that almost all the young people I was referring to will never try.
All fuel needs energy and resources to make and transport and store.
These canisters can be recycled but they need to be depressurised and pierced (certainly in the UK) before putting in recycling with something like the Jetboil crunchit.
