Man y'all are bringing back the memories. Looks like Ralphie has stepped up from Rangers to F150s. I had a '91 that looked exactly like that inside and out that I bought from the company I worked for that was an old delivery truck. It had the 300 six with auto and it had the heavy duty suspension option which was a 2 leaf overload spring and sway bar on the rear. I was going to suggest that you can sometimes find the rear swaybars in the salvage yards on Ralphie's other F150. I paid $1500 for mine and drove it 100k miles and only had to put an alternator and u-joints on it plus regular maintenance. Y'all really bring back the memories of my dad getting my to help him work on vehicles when I was young.
I'm from Wisconsin and all I know is if you wash all that salt off any chance you can in winter your vehicle don't rust as fast. Last I knew my grandpa's last brand new F150 he bought in 92 was still on the road and not rusted out. Has that good old 300

Yeah could be timing chain jumped and loghtid. Worthless. Or plastic center of harmonic. Balancer rotted and. Slid outer ring of balancer. BTW. Balancers are balance specific. To motor they are externally balanced to. 302

Mice have incisors that never stop growing, so they need to chew on hard materials to keep their teeth filed down and aligned. If their teeth grew too long, they wouldn't be able to eat. The insulation on wires is often made from plant-based materials like soy, peanut oil, or rice husks. Therefore in some instances they are eating the wiring because it's plant-based material and they have the added benefit of chewing their incisors down as their teeth never stop growing. Not sure if you'll see this Sleeperdude, but there's a product that I've been seeing other mechanics use here on TH-cam that I'd suggest checking out since you do a lot of engine work. It's called Boltster. It's a Silicone product that's kind of like a honeycomb that you holds your bolts in whatever arrangement you've removed them from off of whatever project you're working on. I read somewhere that wire is wrapped in a vegetable oil treated material before it’s coated in rubber. That is so the wire can be routed easily without catching on the rubber insulation. Varmints can smell the vegetable oil and chew for it, thinking it’s food. I love the episode so far! Between two trucks Ralphie should be able to have one great truck in the end.
I’ve heard some wire insulation uses peanut oil in the manufacturing. I don’t think they like the copper, it just gets chewed in the process. Triple check that firing order, the timing chain could be toast or a huge vacuum leak. Maybe a couple valves hanging up, are those valve covers tall enough for those rockers? Great score on the truck! Ralphie got a good eye for a bargain👍
Awesome score with a diamond in the rough...great job getting it running a few more parts and she's a great runner. Awesome content as always and appreciate you sharing your adventure with us.😎👨🔧🧰🛠️🇺🇲🛻⛽
They ain't no $500 trucks round here, less it was stolen. Great buy Ralphie! The whole distributer thing really doesn't say much about the quality of aftermarket parts. Pretty sad when a distributer made in the 1960's will outperform one made recently.
That truck probably needs a timing chain. It's had a ton of dry starts with being used as a trash truck and sitting too long in between starts. Having the same issue with one of my fords. I'm just too lazy to replace the chain. That's a heck of a truck at a great price. Thank you for sharing the voyage with us.
I thought maybe vacuum but wasn't lean popping, maybe like others said, chain stretch, carb issue, maybe a little vacuum issue . Super fantastic video . Hey , having fun with you family is worth every penny of that . 😅✌👍
From experience, you didn't verify no.1 at TDC. The proper no1 plug wire is supposed to be at the 1 o'clock spot. Depending on the cam cut, verify the firing order. The timing chain is probably gone bro. Change the set and set the distributor to time where Ford says it has to be. All of the issues will dry up when you've done the factory settings.
one of my brothers has an older souped up truck, a while back after he had bought a matching distributor for the engine from O'Reilly's, it just wasn't running quite right. A friend suggested that he get the distributor checked out, they said that the vacuum advance was coming on too soon and the internal flyweights were coming on too late. Now after they tuned the distributor his truck runs great!
It's crazy how little you had to do to get that old pickup running again. Too bad it isn't like you hoped it would be. But she's still a runner! Btw...I LOVE the Ralphie Cam!
It would help tremendously if you would re gap the spark plugs on that truck because you had them set for electronic ignition which is ten thousandths wider then points will jump fire across properly It should be gapped around 35-40 thousandths plus too much gap on the spark plugs will wear your points out fast. Also too much gap in your spark plugs on points will cause you not to be able to read the timing.
I got my grandpas old 89 F150. It has a 302 with E4OD, has 449,000 miles on it (he was driving 200+ miles a day). Engine or tranny has never been rebuilt just had basic maintenance. They're great trucks from back when Ford was still Ford Tough.
Nice truck!! I have a 1990 with the same 302/AOD. Also carb swapped it. Just used an Amazon HEI dizzy. One place a spent a few bucks was an aeromotive dual stage fuel pressure regulator. That was after the EFI pump overwhelmed the cheap Holley return regulator, flooded the intake and caught the truck on fire. That was an exciting experience.
How can you not love a boy who loves trucks, active hunts them down in ads, works to save money, talks dad into drive 1 hour away to “deliverance “ country”,buys it and helps get it running with dads help. Just goes to show the more time you spend doing things with your kids the better childhood they will have and a jump start to adulthood. Having a strong faith based system (belief in God) also helps.

This truck is worth the time and effort...when you get done and get it running should be worth at least 9k people still want these!
Awesome score with a diamond in the rough...great job getting it running a few more parts and she's a great runner. Awesome content as always and appreciate you sharing your adventure with us.😎👨🔧🧰🛠️🇺🇲🛻⛽
Thanks 👍
They ain't no $500 trucks round here, less it was stolen. Great buy Ralphie! The whole distributer thing really doesn't say much about the quality of aftermarket parts. Pretty sad when a distributer made in the 1960's will outperform one made recently.
That truck probably needs a timing chain. It's had a ton of dry starts with being used as a trash truck and sitting too long in between starts. Having the same issue with one of my fords. I'm just too lazy to replace the chain. That's a heck of a truck at a great price. Thank you for sharing the voyage with us.
There are many people who believe that cars 'feel'...that's why I think this truck should be grateful 👍
👍
I do think you may have a vacuum leak or a crack in something. Run a wire for the positive side of the battery to the coil. Also ck for good grounds .
Ok thanks
I tell ya what, Ralphie's my hero. It's easy to respect his drive and work ethic 💪
Thank you
You're more than welcome! 😁
You people are the best. I love all of you guys. It’s so wonderful to see you do this.
Thank you I am blessed
Ralphie upstairs going through daddy’s goodies, goodies, goodies goodies, too funny
one of my brothers has an older souped up truck, a while back after he had bought a matching distributor for the engine from O'Reilly's, it just wasn't running quite right. A friend suggested that he get the distributor checked out, they said that the vacuum advance was coming on too soon and the internal flyweights were coming on too late. Now after they tuned the distributor his truck runs great!
The water cooler Monday morning.
My coworker, “did Arkansas win on Saturday?”
Me. “I don’t know, but Sleeperdude and family got an F-150 running.”

Me to
Great buy Ralphie! You did well son.
Thanks 👍
It's crazy how little you had to do to get that old pickup running again. Too bad it isn't like you hoped it would be. But she's still a runner! Btw...I LOVE the Ralphie Cam!
ABSOLUTELY------> OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Such awesome kids. Work hard and have a ton of knowledge for their young years. Fantastic parenting😊
Ralphie is definitely winning in life. As are all the SD family.
Ok thanks
