    A delightful breed of fish. They always seem very relaxed in a tank and I think are relaxing to watch them going about their business picking at bits in the substrate.

    So right, I love Peacock Gudgeon... Cannot keep the frys alive. Two reasons, dad will have a great meal... so you are totally right, we have to separate the frys from the parents very quickly. Then, it is difficult to feed the frys. They are so small....very small. Infusoria is my only solution... if I can keep my infusoria culture alive! or even started! bottom line I tried so many ways to feed the frys without success...make my so sad and so mad! This fish ROCK!

    • @Candice.BonsaiScience

      You can do any type of peaceful community cichlid - the issue is your tank is only 8” tall which is a big problem not having swim space. Rams are a dwarf community cichlid but I would never put them in a 8” height. Your really limited to probably your shell dweller cichlids and rock dweller cichlids.

    Hello, great video. Quick question for anyone that may know, I currently have a 40 gallon breeder tank with live plants, 6 Amano shrimp, 6 Nerite snails, 6 Otocinclus and 6 Florida Flagfish(1 male). I was thinking about adding 6 Peacock Gudgeons(1 male, 5 female) and was curious on compatibility with the rest of my tank. I have a Fluval 307 canister filter, do weekly water changes and all plants and life seem to be flourishing. I want to have a comfortable habitat for all residents of the tank, would adding the peacocks be okay in this regard without getting close to overstocking?

    Rather than letting a large number of gudgeons naturally form mating pairs, how feasible it is just to buy a male and female, put the two in a tank together -- do that automatically become a breeding pair? Also, regarding the other fish in the tank - are those zebra danios? Do danios nip the fins of the Peacock Gudgeons?

    • @TheFishNerd

      That's actually the way I've read of it being done, just adding a male and one or two females.

    I have two peacocks that won't eat flakes or pellets. They won't swim to the top to grab the bug bites I have, nor the flakes, and the pellets are ignored. I am at my wits end here. I even offered them dried brine shrimp, and they don't pay them any mind either. I've even pinched off some brine shrimp, and put my hand in the water, in the general area of the gudgeons, and they still ignored the brine shrimp.

      I would try California blackworms and/or microworms.

      @@TheFishNerd I ended up buying some live daphnia. And, it's hit or miss. Picky eaters. Sometimes they'll eat the daphnia, sometimes they'll gobble them up, and then spit them right back out.

    Can you house six green neon tetra four crystal red shrimp and two peacock gudgeons in a five gallon tank?

    • @TheFishNerd
      @TheFishNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The green neons would need at least a 10 gallon. With 5 gallons you could do MAYBE one gudgeon (although 10 gallons would definitely be better). I have kept a single peacock gudgeon in a heavily planted 5 gallon in the past and it wasn't nearly as active or interesting as when I kept them in larger tanks. The shrimp would be fine in a five gallon.

      Thats probably not the best for a 5 gal. You could do a pair of gudgeons in the 5 gal though or just the neons. Really depends on tank setup. I have 2 peacocks, 8 neons, 2 fire red shrimp, and 3 panda corydoras in my 15gal and they've done great so far, but I wouldn't really recommend that unless you really keep up maintenance, I also have many spots for them all and tall plants/driftwood. My peacocks have become my favorite fish though, they are so fun to watch and have such great personalities. Highly suggest them!

    Omg these are gorgeous I have a 4 foot tank with a wild pair of betta channoides and I’m trying to find what to put with them. They are only small and gentle. I’ve bought 10 spotted blue eye fish and I have the tank pretty well planted and some driftwood and rocks as hides. I’ve tried to make it look a natural as possible. I wonder if these would work too? Might need more research..

      As long as your betta channoides don't bother them I think they'd be fine. :)
