In this video I am restoring a very old ratchet. I bought this ratchet from Flea Market. I searched a lot to know the history of this ratchet but I didn't find this ratchet but found another similar one. According to its history it is at least 136 years old. If you have any idea where this ratchet comes from or how old it exactly is please write it in the comments!
I began the restoration by disassembling all the parts of the ratchet. To remove rust from all parts of the ratchet, I dipped the parts in vinegar. After removing the rust from the ratchet I removed the casting marks from the ratchet and sprayed primer After the primer spray I spray painted (River Blue). Then removed the rust from the ratchet socket and sanded it with sandpaper and buffed it. Sanded and buffed the other parts . After restoring all the parts, assembled all the ratchet parts.

If you ever used that wrench in the field you would realize how silly it all is;
That is for removing the studs on flanged pipe fittings. Initially we used something known as "knocker wrenches" to loosen the nuts on the studs on a flange. Then this type of wrench to remove the stud-nuts. Depending upon the flange there may be from sixteen to thirty-two of these studs.
Also, in the kit that you carried in your truck there was an assortment of sockets to fit the different sized nuts.
It was a convenient tool for removing and then re-installing the nuts. Usually we wire wheeled the threads on the studs and squirted some penetrating oil on them before we got started.
Usually this was in an oil field, refinery or terminal where we had to take apart process equipment with some regularity. It is still sold by several different manufacturers.
Still, a thumbs-up on your clean up and repaint. A worker who showed up with such a pretty wrench would get teased merciliessly.

Maybe the polished surfaces should have been nickel plated? Otherwise, this instrument would have to be kept in a museum display case to prevent the unprotected steel from rusting.
But that's just nitpicking, very good work, of course. My Like for your video.

Awesome restoration, rubber spray was new for me. Consider doing more on removing casting marks. Satisfying work!

Agreed, no gloves, but if you do wear gloves, make sure they are fit. Very important.

Obviously a specialty tool for a piece of equipment as the head is not interchangeable. I can hear the boss now "Go get me the big blue wrench, with the socket on the end. We gotta fix this thing"😊

Why grind off the casting marks and then paint it? That's how it was made and it's part of its character. IMHO.
The casting marks were extra and looked bad so removed them
Spray paint is easy, and it comes right off, you even see it scratched off is some of the assembly, powder coating is way better and much more durable, powder coat or hot/cold blue and polish…maybe I’m a bad person, but I like seeing different ways people do this stuff

What you performed is not a restoration, it was a modification. I really can't understand why you would remove the original casting marks and not use the original paint that was clearly red. Also I'm not a fan of polishing a tool like this.
