    man, this is exactly what I was looking for, because the promist filter on the lens doesn't really give you this much control. Thanks!!

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I can relate to that - however you can have a TON of control with an actual promist filter in front of your lens and even though this is off-topic for my channel, a video to exactly that is already lined up and ready to go live in the next couple weeks 😁

      Appreciate that Tony! So glad it helped you - if you want an even easier workflow, I built a plugin for Resolve that gets you the ProMist look with just an effect on an adjustment clip - check out my latest video or www.sf-visuals.com/shop 👌🏽 promise you it’s worth checking out 🙌🏽

    You can also use “soft light” in the composite section. This is my personal preference when creating a film-like highlight look.

    It looks so good!! Do you think there’s much advantage to the real thing, whether that’s pro buy or diy, vs. doing it this way?
    I’m certainly very attracted to how much control you have this way to dial it in, so if it’s not much worse, it would be easy to totally let go of tryin’a finesse this stuff in pre.
    I could see how the edge of the frame doesn’t have quite as much information, since highlights just off screen wouldn’t contribute any glow like they would on the real thing. But I’m using a slight crop for stabilization and fake motion blur anyway, so that’s fine. Is the quality of the effect itself any worse…?

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tom! Thank you so much for the comment!
      To be honest, I use all 3 methods, this one, a standard pro mist filter and a diy mist filter (just use a very cheap UV filter, spray some hairspray into the air and catch it slightly with the filter and let it dry for a sec)
      I’d say the advantage is, especially for client projects, that if you do it this way, the effect isn’t baked into your footage, so if the client doesn’t like it, you can just delete it - and that’s not possible with the standard pro mist filter!
      Yeah, the edges don’t get that much from the effect, so if you’re slightly cropping in for stabilization you should be fine, just apply the effect before you do the stabilizing and cropping because if you do it afterwards, you might face the same issue!:)

    Hey Thats' awesome! thank you so much. super clear. However DAVINCI doesn't let me adjust any of the settings for the FX. DO I need the paid version to do that? or should it work with the free version? thanks for your help!

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! If you se a big watermark from Resolve in the preview window you have to have the studio version, otherwise it should work in the free version. If you still have trouble I recommend using one of the other options mentioned! :)

    Great idea Sebastian, I will give this a go rather than buy a pro mist filter.

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael! That's a great idea! I am also about to create a second channel with "filmmaking tips" on a budget - and one video will be about a DIY pro mist filter (its a regular UV filter from amazon for $10 and a can of hairspray that you need for it - then you make 1 spray into the air and slightly catch it with the UV filter) This will get really great results and even more comparable to a real mist filter - for $10 only! :D If you're interested in that, stay tuned, will make an announcement when the channel's about to launch! :D
      Thanks for taking the time to comment, greatly appreciated! :)

    would there be any difference on the footage between the post-edited mist filter effect and the real mist filter? Are there any advantages that I can get using expensive 100~200 dollar mist filter?

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion I‘d always try to get the shot with an actual filter attached to your lens. You can even get an ND mist filter so you have 2 filters in one!:)

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do that on the fast noise node directly by pulling the gain down or Ann a color corrector node to the fast noise node!:)
