At the time, The Move was down to a 3-piece band (Roy, Jeff & Bev Bevan). ELO was Roy's idea, and at the time he said that the aim was to continue where I Am The Walrus had left off - more orchestral stuff, etc. If you listen to the last Move album and the first ELO album, you'll hear this transition. The problem was 2 egos, each wanting to go in a different direction, so Roy left and formed Wizzard, Jeff & Bev (and others) carried on as ELO. ELO of course was (and still is) massively successful, and had Roy stayed I suspect that it would have been less commercially successful but more musically interesting and experimental. Roy remains one of the great unsung heroes of British music, and hasn't really had the recognition he deserves.

I've always loved Roy Wood. He was an inspiration to me and the first album I ever bought was "Boulders". From that time on I wanted to learn to play every instrument I could get my hands on. I think Roy Wood (and the Beatles) are the reason that I ended up making a living as a professional musician for the last forty-odd years.
