    Big respect to Ron as a West Brom fan for almost 60 years but football isn't football anymore. I stopped watching about 4/5 years ago, just isn't the same anymore.

      Great to see him looking so well. He's a legend at my club Sheffield Wednesday. I tried so hard to watch this for Big Ron's contribution but after a couple of minutes of Lord Haw Haw's gurning I'm afraid I was reaching for the sick bucket.

    As a Villa fan I loved Big Ron when he managed us in the 90s, we played great football and he was a great character in the game which you don't see as much these days.

      My point is that Ron Atkinson had a cushy, well paid job as a football pundit, yet in 2004 he used language that was unacceptable in 1984. He may have been set up (ie they gave him enough metaphorical rope), but he must have thought it was fine to talk like that in the studio and the commentary box when off air, so it was indefensible really.

      I was there. Derek Statham, Tony Brown and last but not least a young Brian Robson. A 5-3 win over United at Old Trafford was a highlight. (On TH-cam) Sadly the West Brom board was always one that would sell it's own grandmother if it got a price.

    What a great bloke.When I went to Tenerife in March this year getting off the plane and going on the transport bus to the airport I looked up and who should be standing up in front of me but Ron.I can honestly say he couldn’t have been nicer and his “better half” was lovely as well a smashing lady.Good luck to them both.👌👍

    As to Nigel's comment that Ron played the first match with 3 black players, in fact it was West Ham United:
    "The three players in question were Clyde Best, Ade Coker and Clive Charles (younger brother of John Charles, the first black player to pull on an England shirt). The game was played at Upton Park on 1st April 1972, almost exactly six years before West Brom's more celebrated trio stepped onto the Portman Road turf."

Regis and Batson and Cunningham will all ways be remembered the first 3 black players playing for West Bromwich Albion. That’s history. Yes i remember Clive best playing for West Ham did you hear the amount of dogs abuse he got from the West Ham fans for being a black player playing for there club?? Well my grandfather was there and he couldn’t believe what he was hearing that day. Times change over time 🕰️ i suppose. Times were different then i suppose .     I remember doing the security at the ryder cup in 1990 or 1991 and was on rons tent when he realised i was a fellow scouser he brought me foot and lager i said i couldn't drink on duty he said don't worry I'll make sure nothing happens and it didn't.

      His career is over because of his racist attitudes in the past. I dislike PC like I dislike bigots in any sport. That aside I do like Ron as he is a character.     Will always love big Ron. Great cup winners in 83 and 85, with Whitesides goal. We were unstoppable at the beginning of the 85-86 season, but the injuries beat us alongside Ian Rush. Thank you Ron

    Great football man is Ron. People talk about Clough been the best England manager they never had but I always thought Ron would have been. He was a man for the big game and always did well in competition cups
