If we could go back in time, I would take you to an Earth, Wind & Fire concert. It was one of the most fascinating times in life. Never a disappointment. To see it live. OMG! R.I.P. Maurice White ❤
I was 12 years old when I heard Earth, Wind, and Fire in 1973, and the song was Evil. You are right about the music. I'd never heard anything like it and I was hooked. Mighty Mighty got me next, and they became the first artist of only 2 artists who's albums I'd buy without hearing a song (Prince was the other one). They are the baddest band in the land. Great reaction.
Ashley, the Phenix Horns, originally known as the EWF Horns, were the main horn section for the band Earth, Wind & Fire. The horn section were composed of Don Myrick on saxophone, Louis "Lui Lui" Satterfield on trombone, Rahmlee Michael Davis on trumpet, and Michael Harris on trumpet. The Phenix Horns are also known for their work with Phil Collins and the band Genesis. They have also performed with other artists, such as the Chi-Lites, Ramsey Lewis, Deniece Williams and the Emotions. The horn section should not be confused with the Earth, Wind & Fire Horns which were established in 1987.
You forget just how good these songs are, until you watch somebody hearing them for the first time. I know everbody always talks about Phillip Bailey's falsetto...which is absolutely amazing, but my favorite voice in EW&F was always Maurice White...RIP.
"In the Stone" is the lead song on Earth,Wind&Fire's 1979 "I Am" album. It's a great opening song. The interlude you hear after the song had a Kalimba solo which Earth,Wind & Fire would feature on several of their songs.
"The Phoenix Horns" was the name of EW&F brass section! I struggle to determine the best between them and the 70's band "Cunfunshun" Both groups are inundated with AMAZING MUSICIANSHIP!!!
Great 🙂there is more words here they are we love the elements of the universe and thank the creator for sending us, Maurice White, the leader of earth wind, and fire. He’s an ancestor now, but the music lives on thank you. Ashley.
Ashley I am Old school at it's best giving you a blast from the past this group called "New Life song is called "Wish you were here" You're going to love it. It's a lover boy song.
Hi Ashley, The song that you mentioned was not "In Your Face" it is titled "ON YOUR FACE!!!" And you're so right about the crazy amount of HBCU Marching Bands that play many of Earth Wind & Fire (EWF) songs because of their rich instrumentation and that is a tribute to the fact that EWF has always been known to have an amazing "Horn Section!!!"
That Horn Section (Phenix Horns) Played with other musicians too.. Don Myrick on saxophone Louis “Lui Lui” Satterfield on trombone Rahmlee Michael Davis on trumpet Michael Harris on trumpet
Only few bands made masterpieces. EWF made a couple. They used all they could get: Strings, horns, electronics, percussion and their beautiful voices in a perfect way. True black music! To analyze this song fully in all its layers and aspects, you need a lot of time. BTW: I really love your face expressions. That shows that EWF made a really good job. 😊
I’m glad you enjoyed the GOAT band.Their horn/string arrangements are very complexed. That’s Jerry Hey/David Foster/Maurice arrangement. Also checkout “All n All,Tom Tom Washington did the horn arrangements for EWF Phenix Horns. Before Maurice created EWF,he was a beast studio drummer for Chess Records.
EWF's entire albums were must-listens, because you didn't just have the back-to-back hits, but you had little interludes between the songs, weaving all the songs on the album together, like links in a soulful, spiritual, musical chain.
Certain groups/artists are their own category.🤌🏾 Glad you got to revisit EWF! I was blessed to see them perform nearly every time they came to Detroit during press conferences and reviews. #WhatUpDoe
Maurice White. One of the best to ever do it. The horn section is lit. RIP Maurice White, founder of EWF
This song is more spiritual than people realize.
To see the smile on the face of someone so young reacting to music I have known and loved most of my life is a joy 🇬🇧
Maurice White = Brilliant , super talented, top tier producer , music master , legendary.
One of the GREATEST Bands EVER!!!!! Dun Talk.
My favourite EWF song by far. Not just for the music, but the lyrics... 🔥🔥🔥
If we could go back in time, I would take you to an Earth, Wind & Fire concert. It was one of the most fascinating times in life. Never a disappointment. To see it live. OMG! R.I.P. Maurice White ❤
I ain't got but 3 words to say: EARTH, WIND AND FIRE! 😅😂🤣
A marching band favorite.
I was 12 years old when I heard Earth, Wind, and Fire in 1973, and the song was Evil. You are right about the music. I'd never heard anything like it and I was hooked. I was lucky to have seen them live twice in 1979 and 81. What an experience
That horn section is superb
Without a doubt!!

Love them , miss them. This group held their own for decades.
My College Jam, used to rock this through the whole dorm, always nice to watch a youngster enjoy this classic music, for the first time!!!
You forget just how good these songs are, until you watch somebody hearing them for the first time. I know everbody always talks about Phillip Bailey's falsetto...which is absolutely amazing, but my favorite voice in EW&F was always Maurice White...RIP.
EWF had a great band my favorite group , saw them in concert it was awesome
"In the Stone" is the lead song on Earth,Wind&Fire's 1979 "I Am" album. It's a great opening song. The interlude you hear after the song had a Kalimba solo which Earth,Wind & Fire would feature on several of their songs.
EWF had some of the best cleanest sounding recordings sonically with clarity of any group in those days even rivaling recordings of today.
One of my favorite songs by EWF for sure. Thanks for doing this one.
This is one of my favorites from them!! So glad you found out about it, reacted to it, and you recognized it! ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🙂
"The Phoenix Horns" was the name of EW&F brass section!
I struggle to determine the best between them and the 70's band "Cunfunshun"
Both groups are inundated with AMAZING MUSICIANSHIP!!!
I would throw Brass Construction, (early) Kool & The Gang, and (early) Chicago in that 🔥 horn section mix too…but EWF had it on 🔒!
I was 13 in when this song came out, great memories.
Love 🖤🖤🖤. It's the horn section for me 🖤🖤🖤
It's got to be the greatest intro into a pop song ever written
I love the way you let the intire song play.Thanks.
They play their own instruments, them the Commodores, LTD etc….
Great 🙂there is more words here they are we love the elements of the universe and thank the creator for sending us, Maurice White, the leader of earth wind, and fire. He’s an ancestor now, but the music lives on thank you. Ashley.
As I have said before, I will say it again. You can NEVER go wrong with the elements...Earth, Wind, & Fire!!!!!👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Also... Maurice White isn't mentioned in the genius category enough
Good call. He is at the top of my list!
Another one from the brilliant mind of Maurice White ! R.I.P. Brother !
Ashley I am Old school at it's best giving you a blast from the past this group called "New Life song is called "Wish you were here" You're going to love it. It's a lover boy song.
The Absolutely Amazing Legendary Goats Of Music Always Delivered Classics 🙏💕💪😇

I love when bcu's band opens with this
That little groove at the end....they added 'interludes' between tracks rather than dead air. They last like 15-30 sec. Like impromptu jam breaks.
You know your instruments, Ashley. Very kool. ❤
Bands gravitate to EWF because of the artistry in the heavy horn play. You caught it
A lot of HBCU bands play this song as their downfield precision drill.
That Horn Section (Phenix Horns) Played with other musicians too..
Don Myrick on saxophone
Louis “Lui Lui” Satterfield on trombone
Rahmlee Michael Davis on trumpet
Michael Harris on trumpet
Bout time you got to some more EWF one of the best bands ever 😁💪🏾
There’s Earth Wind & Fire, Parliament Funkadelic, Frankie Beverly & Maze and then there is everybody else!
EW&F, Parliament Funkadelic, and Cameo had some of the meanest horns in their bands
A1 periodttt!!
Out of the park! Ashley
All the great marching bands roll out, “In the Stone.”
Many of the frunk groups of the 70s had great horn musicianship that favored transposing for marching bands.
Put some headphones on Play the song and listen to Maurice white's brother verdean on the bass
This is in my top 10 of my favorite EWF songs there a band called Leonid and Friends who do a awesome cover of this song on YT
Underrated album!
Yes mam! this is from the movie Drumline. You also have to check out their song called "Earth, Wind, & Fire" too. It's deep and spiritual.
Yep. EWF will having you experiencing some serious eargasms.
Classic 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

🔥🔥🔥👍🏾💯💯💯
Every HBCU Marching has played this song at some time.
EW&F has too many classics to count. My go-to happy song is Got to Get You Into My Life.
I knew that Penelope was gonna' work OT on this jam!! 🎉😂❤
Brass Construction is a great band if you like hearing different instruments. Thank you.
Try "Shake and Dance" by CunFunShun, one day... talk about horns!
Philip Bailey famously said the phoenix horns would accuse Maurice white of trying to break the band! This proves it as a fact!
Anutha classic by EWF!
I dare you to follow that bass line…Verdine White can do it!
EWF's entire albums were must-listens, because you didn't just have the back-to-back hits, but you had little interludes between the songs, weaving all the songs on the album together, like links in a soulful, spiritual, musical chain.
All those voices are just Maurice and Philip.
Takes me back to my 1st real girlfriend. Good times... falling asleep on the phone. Ha ha
Falling asleep on the phone and you hang up first no you hang up first that goes on another 10 minutes 😂
@@okAngelface 😂😂😂
🧡🔥🔥
Ashley, check out EWF "See the Light", and "Head to the Sky". I promise you'll be wowed😮!
Sir Clicks A lot is saying momma when is it my turn lol
Woman I don't see how you can look more beautiful than you look right here.
The Ten Commandments
How many times did they unknowingly change keys?
Bands used to PLAY music together , That's why that Era will NEVER be topped ...EVER 😉 th-cam.com/video/EZATpXJxc_Y/w-d-xo.html
EWF have a lot going in their backgroup music, very complex music arrangments
If there's no pen, it's a sin
Greatest band ever imo
If you would let the song play, we could hear it.
And the intro is over a minute long
Certain groups/artists are their own category.🤌🏾 Glad you got to revisit EWF! I was blessed to see them perform nearly every time they came to Detroit during press conferences and reviews. #WhatUpDoe
