Karyn has the sweetest, most angelic vocals, coupled with the most beastly, intimidating tonal grunts...she's like no other. And to have Ross under that and backing her...you have heaven and hell intertwined.
Amazing old-school doom death, with Immolation's legends and Karyn really innovating on vocals. I was a big fan of her first project Crisis, I think she was the first woman I heard growling like that in metal.
When I tell people about her they have no fucking clue who I'm talking about lol I discovered Crisis when I was about 10-11, so like '95-'96.
You don't see people doing tonal harsh vocals very often in the metal scene these days. Usually folks just stick to the standard atonal screams and gutterals for maximum brutality. It's really refreshing to hear stylistic variance like that.

I dunno man. I prefer just pure screaming/growling. I hate when singing is mixed in. I find it ruins it.
I think the reason is that not many people can pull off good melodic hash vocals. Travis from Cattle Decapitation is doing an excellent job with those vocals on their 2012 album, very unique. Also Sam from Architects, when it comes to modern metal/hardcore music. Honestly I can't think of many more right now, but I got the feeling that there are more bands/vocalists, I just can't think of anyone else right now xD
Havok What I loved about Phil Anselmo in the 90s before his voice went to shit, and of course Mike Patton. Totally agree, metal needs more of this.
Karyn has had an unmatched vocal range her whole career and the grandmother of female metal vocalist worldwide, she is amazing and have been loving her work since 8 Convulsions
All the Crisis Albums are Badass the last one really blew my mind especially with the drums, and overall sound quality.

Even today, I think 'DEATHSHED EXTERMINATION' by CRISIS is one of the greatest: 'Death Metal' CDs of all time. KARYN CRISIS must be respected as a groundbreaking female death vocalist/singer for sure.

Her vocal range is so f-ing amazing, I was a Crisis fan in the 90's but GOTW is beyond a shadow of a doubt her best work, best part, she actually considers herself a witch
I know right in crisis she showed off some range but in gospel The Witches she showed off the full show

My band from back in 97 - 98 did a shit ton of shows together with these guys. We're from Mississippi and they are from New York. We played with them when females were just starting to do the heavy death style vocals. She was the first one to do it then I heard of Arch Enemy. I'd say she was the O. G. Props to her because she was an inspiration to all the females after her. She definitely blew our minds when we did our first show together!

Chambers of my heart, of my heart, what a vocal line, perfect that Ross` vocal just kinda of pushed her vocal up instead of overpowering them, this is certainly something i could love! Blending doom and gothic and a teenie bit of teenage ridden angst with her vocals and this was the end result, and what a great one it was!

I love that she's still making music. I've been a fan since the 90's when he band, Crisis, was on Metal Blade. I was in college at the time her first album was out. I was one of the music programmers for the college radio station, and I remember the dude from Metal Blade telling me about a hissy fit Dave Lombardo had when Grip Inc was booed and how the crowd loved the opening act (Crisis) more than they like Grip Inc.

but the whole album is phenomenal it isn't just a cd you listen to,it is one that you experience. I hope for more i love Crisis & Ephel Duath but this is a monster of melody,harmony,screams,howls & gutteral vox all in 1. I'm glad i met her when they came to Albany NY my hometown last March
I had just discovered 'Crisis' a few years ago and was bummed when I came to find out that they no longer made music. However just recently to my total amazement, I received an email from Century Media telling me about and to pre-order Karyn's new album and this is the 1st track that I've heard and I am blown away!

Crisis "the hollowing" is one of my all-time favourite metal albums, Karyn crisis voice always impressed me. This sounds o.k, I'll see if it grows before buying it.

I bought this album on ebay because I am a witch and I was looking at everything under Salem Witch. Saw the album thought it looked cool and that was it for me - true love - the songs, the lyrics the artwork! This cd is fantastic from begining to end and Karyn is the most amazing talented artist I've had the pleasure of connecting with in a very long time.
