Rory Byrne is South African, Aldo Costa is Italian, who were major contributors to the design of the F2004. Aldo Costa is Mercedes Engineering Director and has been since the Hybrid Era.
@@tonyfamularo8374 Byrne learnt his craft when he moved to England, as most engineers still do to this day. The Red Bull era was dominated by the genuis of Adrian Newey, a Brit, and the rest of the team in England. Just like the 90s dominance by Williams, Benetton Renault, and McLaren, all teams based and staffed by Brits, in England, and driven to supremacy by British engineering brilliance. Just like Lotus with Colin Chapman back in the day...they set new standards. Then we had Alonso and his Enstone based and staffed Renault, then Brawn and McLaren back at the top between Schumacher Ferrari era and before and during the Red Bull eras. Now, Mercedes-Benz, another team staffed and based in England, using the best of British engineering, is untouchable up front. Having Hamilton helps, but then British drivers have won more world titles (8 drivers) than any other nation by far (next best are Brazil and Finland with 3 drivers each). Even away from the track in the Schumacher Ferrari era the head of the F.i.A was a Brit, Max Mosley, and the commercial rights holder and basically the top guy in the sport was another Brit, Bernie Ecclestone. The recently deceased chief race director for decades had been a Brit, Charlie Whiting, and the official number one medical expert was another Brit, Sid Watkins. All these men were in power during and after then after the Schumacher Ferrari era. I think I've established that Britain is an f1 superpower and has been arguably the most influential nation in the history of the sport. Even the oldest race, on the calendar from the very first F1 championship to this very day, is British. (Though I accept Monza might also share that honour) Fact is, Ferrari continued to look to British talent all through the 90s and 00s and still does to this day. F1 is global, international, and is well known for its brilliant drivers and circuits all over the world...I'm just saying acknowledge the reality.
@@prophetascending9021 It's amazing how those teams survived with only the British talent, and no-one else. I can imagine Adrian Newey with his greasy hands assembling the Renault engine by himself on the Redbull car, dropping a tear whilst remembering the car he build, also by himself, that killed Ayrton Senna. An F1 team is huge, and pinning the success, or failures, on a single person is incredibly diminishing for everyone else, regardless of nationality.
@@RarivMorben If you had any reading skills and basic comprehension you'd know that I specifically said numerous times "staffed by" Brits. That means the guys at the factory building the car, designing and making the parts, testing the parts, then working the pits at the grand prix, working strategy back at the factory etc... That's what "staffed by" means, moron. Point stands; all those teams through the 90s, and 00s, and up to today, such as Renault, Williams, McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes, Force India etc...are staffed by Brits, the cars are built in British factories, and Brits play a key role in fabrication, testing, R&D etc... I never said it was ONLY British talent, I said that it was disproportionate numbers of Brits playing a role and that it is an F1 superpower. The points I made are something you cannot dispute.
@@prophetascending9021 Why bother explaining your point again to the "moron"? You said so yourself, I won't don't have "any reading skills or basic comprehension", so how will I understand your explanation of what a team "staffed by Brits" means? But thanks for trying anyway.
Nice video Aidan, and a fitting tribute to a car that will go down as one of the greatest. I wonder if one day we will get the opportunity to hear the thoughts of those involved, particularly Ross Brawn, regarding how they went from utter dominance to utter 'meh' with the 2005 car. That's the side of f1 that intrigues me. I find it far more interesting to hear why Ferrari keep pooching their modern designs, rather than the reasons why Mercedes stay ahead of the pack. Anyway, many thanks for this.
2005 was a "meh" season for Ferrari because of the rules changes. The car was still super dominant, however there was a new rule for tires and thats where they lost. FIA did this on purpose to stop Ferrari dominance. In 2006 Ferrari was fighting for the championship until the last race, even though the odds were against them. So yeah had the Fia not changed rules Ferrari had a real chance to dominate till the end of 2008
To further illustrate the point at 11:44, it's like Ted Kravitz once said; you get the best car *because* you are the best driver. Stick Juan Manuel Fangio or Ayrton Senna in the Life L190, and the car is still no faster nor any more reliable. Stick Yuji Ide and Ricardo Rosset into the Ferrari F2004, and the car may still be the fastest on the grid, but the erratic driving nature of both drivers combined is probably worth no better than just inside the top 10, and even that may be being a bit generous.
Yeah, this whole pUt HaMiLToN iN ThE WiLLiAmS aNd sEe HoW GoOd hE iS ThEn! argument is a load of shit. Like the CW pointed out. Badoer was given a decent car in 2009. Granted, it was his first race weekend in a long time, but if it is 'just the car' then he'd have been in the points. Then Fisichella took over and was way more competitive.
I think that this year Ferrari still has a chance to win at monza or spa, but Mercedes will still probably find a way to win there giving them a perfect season.
Just an idea. But maybe a assetto corsa video with a generation of several generation of cars/series. Like all the available ferrari f1 cars. And maybe throw in their rivals if they're available in game. Race them all at once in the background and through in the sound lightly every know and then. Or maybe you know the 917 vs 512 or 962, 787, c8?/c11?. Just a thought.
New sub and binge watching story time. Sorry as I'm sure you have been asked this many times, What is the modern looking f1 sim you play and what set up do you use. Thanks for great content
Yes, it is the greatest F1 car ever made. No F1 car ever has set records that stood for so long, ever. And no car has ever forced the FIA to essentially rig the following season in order to stop the winning team from winning again.
It was very very similar. So much so that the fia conducted an investigation to ensure it was truly a Sauber design. Turns out it was their own car. But seeing as how the sauber used ferrari engines and the same bridgestone tires its no surprise they looked so similar. Imo ferrari helped them design it.
Well, he already can make a video about the Mercedes W07 Hybrid. AKA the car that won the most races in a season (up to this date.) including the Silver War.
@@sekhyhybrid6701 But that was the 3rd car that came after two dominant cars. the W10 is arguably more remarkable because it's helped Merc reassert their dominance after being challenged by Ferrari for a couple of years
@@crystalracing4794 It's ironic to me because the W07 Hybrid can be seen as the F2002 here. The W08 and W09 EQ Power+ as the F2003-GA. The W10 should be more like the F2004, however the W10 probably shows what Red Bull would be capable of in the Hybrid era if it had a Mercedes PU in the back.
@@sekhyhybrid6701 Agree with that analogy, but I'm not sure why you are correlating Red Bull's potential to if they had a Merc PU. If Red Bull had a Merc PU, they would design their car in a very different way, but it might not take advantage of Newey's preferences for tight rear ends and high rakes (W10 has a low rake)
@@crystalracing4794 I know that Red Bull would design their car differently if they had a Merc PU, but what I mean is that the W10 shows what Red Bull could be capable of with for example the RB14 with a better engine. While the W10 has low rake, (Still higher than the 2017 and 2018 car) Red Bull would have made a high rake car with similiar performances in 2018 with the RB14 if it had a better engine.
Thank you for the AC images of the cars. I’m not an avid follower of F1 and as I watched a couple of races this year, and thought they looked HUGE. But thought it may have been my eyes and not watching through the years. I was wrong they are bigger. I wonder why.
F1 cars gained an awful lot of length after the refueling ban, as they suddenly had to carry a 140L-ish tank (loosely calculated based on the specific mass of octane, but F1 expresses it in mass, not volume) onboard. After that teams started to realise that the aerodynamic advantages of a longer floor outweighed the advantages traditionally associated with a smaller wheelbase, and F1 cars have been growing longer ever since.
But is just because of that car. Max would win in it. Seb might win in it If Alonso were still with F-1 he would win with it Daniel Ricc would win in it as well. See, There's a whole group of top drivers that are so closely matched in skill that any one of them would be WDC if only they had a SLIGHT mechanical edge. GREAT job on your channel - you are a true fan
I was never there to see it but I do have a feeling some ppl look at the Ferrari domination era with rose tinted glasses, even tho it’s basically like merc now, won’t be surprised if ppl started longing for the days when Lewis won everything there was to win in some years time
You are right, they were doing the same thing Mercedes is doing and it was not entertaining. Certainly respected their ability but it was lacking some action up front.
And now Mercedes does what Ferrari did back then - "failure is not an option" mentality and when they win as much as they possibly can in a season they don't sit on their laurels but actually keep pushing the technology and dominate even more.
And now 15 years later the dynamic has changed and it’s the Tifosi that love to hate us brits watching our British based team dominate a season (Mercedes are based in Brackley and red bull are based at Milton keynes)
just going to point out that when it comes to dominance in a single season, the 2016 Mercedes triumphs the F2004, winning 19 races of 21, and it provided a very tense title fight, arguably the best title fight this decade.
@@AidanMillward hmm, ye, only like a 3.28% difference in win percentage, however I would deem the Merc the better car as the calander had 5 more races on it, which is 5 more chances to lose. I would also say that the Merc is superior because it was way more reliable than it's competitors, but I don't really know much about the reliability of cars back in the 80s and 90s.
I was amazed by the size difference of F1 cars like others did as well. Indeed, from 2010 till today cars became almost a meter longer, 20 cm wider, same height but more than 100 kg heavier with all that crap on board. Yes, I know what the future will bring. I know turboelectrics are efficient and faster. I don't care. I want V10.
How about the McLaren MP4-2....lot's of stuff about the MP4-1 and MP4-4, but barely anybody pays attention to the MP4-2, which raced 3 seasons in the mid 80's ('84, '85 and '86) and won 3 driver's titles and 2 constructor titles....22 wins out of 48 races....and looked good! Seriously, why doesn't anybody love this car?
Wider, slick tyres, modern efficient PUs producing substantially more HP and torque than the V10s, DRS, I don't think modern engineers have much to shout about when they design cars that break 15 year old records.

@@lazaglider I'd say the same. I got to see it up close at the Ferrari exhibition in London last year. It was absolutely incredible
British engineering excellence and a German driver...the Italians were so proud.
Rory Byrne is South African, Aldo Costa is Italian, who were major contributors to the design of the F2004. Aldo Costa is Mercedes Engineering Director and has been since the Hybrid Era.
@@tonyfamularo8374
Byrne learnt his craft when he moved to England, as most engineers still do to this day.
(Though I accept Monza might also share that honour)
Fact is, Ferrari continued to look to British talent all through the 90s and 00s and still does to this day.
@@RarivMorben
If you had any reading skills and basic comprehension you'd know that I specifically said numerous times "staffed by" Brits.
So yeah had the Fia not changed rules Ferrari had a real chance to dominate till the end of 2008
I appreciate the car, I just wish they had a different driver lineup.
No further proof that Badoers 2009 return in the Ferrari
Yeah, this whole pUt HaMiLToN iN ThE WiLLiAmS aNd sEe HoW GoOd hE iS ThEn! argument is a load of shit. Like the CW pointed out. Badoer was given a decent car in 2009. Granted, it was his first race weekend in a long time, but if it is 'just the car' then he'd have been in the points. Then Fisichella took over and was way more competitive.
I think that this year Ferrari still has a chance to win at monza or spa, but Mercedes will still probably find a way to win there giving them a perfect season.
they failed to get a 1-2 at monaco.
@@User-nu6km Sorry for not being clearer, I meant a perfect season in terms of win percentage, not maximum points haul.
Only mechanical failures or huge strategy mistakes can stop them
Ummmm, no, I reckon Red Bull will win in Austria 😁
schumifan78 ummmm easy to say that after the race 😄
Just an idea. But maybe a assetto corsa video with a generation of several generation of cars/series. Like all the available ferrari f1 cars. And maybe throw in their rivals if they're available in game. Race them all at once in the background and through in the sound lightly every know and then. Or maybe you know the 917 vs 512 or 962, 787, c8?/c11?. Just a thought.
Great content yet again
New sub and binge watching story time. Sorry as I'm sure you have been asked this many times, What is the modern looking f1 sim you play and what set up do you use. Thanks for great content
Excellent as usual good sir.
The car that I filled the top 5 with was the Lotus 25.
Yes, it is the greatest F1 car ever made. No F1 car ever has set records that stood for so long, ever. And no car has ever forced the FIA to essentially rig the following season in order to stop the winning team from winning again.
Im sorry if i forgot but wasnt the sauber C23 basically an f2004? Im asking because i remember rumors about it being the same car?
It was very very similar. So much so that the fia conducted an investigation to ensure it was truly a Sauber design. Turns out it was their own car. But seeing as how the sauber used ferrari engines and the same bridgestone tires its no surprise they looked so similar. Imo ferrari helped them design it.
JDM_Jeffro think Ferrari did what they did with haas- gave them the blueprints and let them get in with it. Technically haas would have built the car.
@@AidanMillward agreed.
Noel and Liam Gallagher also agree about not wanting to see Manchester United win.
Strange that the thumbnail you used was the first Ferrari since 1999 that Schumacher failed to win the championship, the F2005

In 15 years' time, there'll be story time videos about Mercedes W10
I don't know why they're so much longer either. Might be because of the hybrids and safety.
F1 cars gained an awful lot of length after the refueling ban, as they suddenly had to carry a 140L-ish tank (loosely calculated based on the specific mass of octane, but F1 expresses it in mass, not volume) onboard. After that teams started to realise that the aerodynamic advantages of a longer floor outweighed the advantages traditionally associated with a smaller wheelbase, and F1 cars have been growing longer ever since.
and i was a boy when this all spectacular things going on
It has to be that marlboro sponsor
i was never a fanboy. not of ferrari in general and not of that specific car. but put some wide slicks on the f2004 and it would stomp todays f1 era.
i'll give a thumbs up just for comment that ended in "rheeeeeeeeeeeeee:
But is just because of that car.
Max would win in it.
Seb might win in it
If Alonso were still with F-1 he would win with it
Daniel Ricc would win in it as well.
See, There's a whole group of top drivers that are so closely matched in skill that any one of them would be WDC if only they had a SLIGHT mechanical edge.
GREAT job on your channel - you are a true fan

Zsolt (not Zolt, pronounced in English as JOLT) Baumgartner drove for Minardi in 2004, and at the 2003 Hungarian GP for Jordan.
István Tamás Csepela thanks, this has already been pointed out.
REEEE i loved that part haha
What a great Car it was!!
We need a story about the mclaren mp4/20
No second driver will ever touch Barichellos 2004. I can only imagine what 114 points would be in 2019.
5 second penalty for puting metal in the intro :/
Gg boi You must be new
Gg boi fuck off and listen aids pop wat takes no talent to make dick
And now Mercedes does what Ferrari did back then - "failure is not an option" mentality and when they win as much as they possibly can in a season they don't sit on their laurels but actually keep pushing the technology and dominate even more.
Hi can i ask what is the title of the ending song on this video?
And now 15 years later the dynamic has changed and it’s the Tifosi that love to hate us brits watching our British based team dominate a season (Mercedes are based in Brackley and red bull are based at Milton keynes)
I do believe Merc is the new F2004 story that all started with brawn GP. Boring to watch?, yes. Technologically impressive?, double yes.
just going to point out that when it comes to dominance in a single season, the 2016 Mercedes triumphs the F2004, winning 19 races of 21, and it provided a very tense title fight, arguably the best title fight this decade.
Phantom _Nuke MP4-4 won 15 of 16. Depends on how you measure it really.
It’s an awesome car! The f2004 won much more races than f2002
Eem...sorry thats wrong The f2002 won 15 out of 19. The F2004 15 out of 20....
And the most Powerful Ferrari V10 Engine in F1.
Still prefer f2002, yes f2004 is a different kind of animal but 02 is simple and beautiful
I want V10.
Definitely the most beautiful
How about the McLaren MP4-2....lot's of stuff about the MP4-1 and MP4-4, but barely anybody pays attention to the MP4-2, which raced 3 seasons in the mid 80's ('84, '85 and '86) and won 3 driver's titles and 2 constructor titles....22 wins out of 48 races....and looked good! Seriously, why doesn't anybody love this car?
Very few regulation changes between 1995 and 2009 ?!
I myself identify as an LBSCR Billington E2 Class locomotive. Thomas the Tank Engine is my brother.
Another lap record of the F2004 fell just yesterday at Canada
Wider, slick tyres, modern efficient PUs producing substantially more HP and torque than the V10s, DRS, I don't think modern engineers have much to shout about when they design cars that break 15 year old records.
lazaglider 250k heavier and much bigger as well.
Yeah, Austria 2002 is very taboo here in Brazil. It’s our F1 7x1. If anyone catches the reference, you know how bad it is for Brazilian Motorsport.

Didn't they use the F2004 in 2005 at some point too?
Average Ginger Yep, F2004M for the first 2 races
Think so. It probably had a new front wing assembly for the new rules.
Ralf Schumacher won the 2002 Malaysian GP
Didn't Ferrari use the F2004 in the early flyaway races in 2005?
Side note: I think it’s ridiculous how big the cars have gotten. They need to be downsized some again. Yes I understand it’s a sport built and based on innovation and evolution but at this rate they’ll no longer even be able to race at Monaco in 10 years.
Make a video on the mp4/4
How much faster would the 2005 cars have been if they could change tires? Could you do a video on the MP4-17/18/19?
MP4-18(B) was a complete fuck up and never raced. The MP4-17(D) had to race for 2 seasons and the MP4-19 was an unreliable piece of crap. The B-Spec of the MP4-19 was where McLaren started to improve.
