Just Some Guy On The Internet Hell naw. It's a good song, but it's so repetetive, and grinds on the ears after a while. It just keeps droning on and on...
Introducing kids around the world to things like modulation, counterpoint, hip harmony, suspensions etc. One track from an 8 bit game like this features more musical depth and sophistication than every mainstream song today put together. These composers were not fucking around.
I dont know who composed this music but they need an Emmy. Its as mesmerizing as the Star Wars score. It truly captures the essence of being in outerspace. Not only does it spark up nostalgia but it evokes emotion when you listen to it. I can literally feel myself plopping in front of my 13 inch TV and just clicking the power button and waiting for the music. Zapping each alien and working my way towards the harder boards. I remember obtaining the rollerball perk and being able to get under and around the aliens. That alone had me captured fan wise. Then to obtain the freezer. The music for each board really captured the feel of the board. It actually made me nervous and spooked out. It would be 11pm maybe up till midnight......i wanted to go get a bowl of cereal or ice cream but the music made me so nervous. I was even scared to look out the window. The zap sound of the wave gun empowered me but i knew that i wasnt a master. Once i was able to reach the lair where the Metroids were......it froze me because they were true monsters. Running out of missles truly made me quiver. I felt myself getting closer to the MOTHER BRAIN but these metroids wouldnt let up. I dont care what anyone says........this is the most perfect game. I love you Metroid
31 years ago I got this game. Where did the time go? Years ago I had some little program that played NES songs that were ripped from the cartridges. Had every single game title with all tracks. I accidentally deleted it. Wish I still had it.
I still love this soundtrack and it was ahead of its time then. I don't think no other soundtrack was this well put together for its type at the time. So cool and alien like. Inviting, mysterious, adventurous, 80s.
Title theme: An awesome theme, showing the lonlyness and adventure. Brinstar: Upbeat and funky! Great for a first area, and place you return to. Norfair: Ominous, but something about it keeps you going. Kraid's lair: You enter, and immediately know something big is coming up. Ridley's lair: Very foreboding. You get a sense of danger. Tourian: Lonely, but beepy. Perfect for a final area. Mother Brain: You have made it to the final room. You have been stareing at your TV for a while, and just want to get it over with. This music displays the lack of emotion one might feel. Escape: RUN RUN GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE! DAMN IT STOP FALLING DOWN THE SHAFT!
@@JbLentolome Ball contortionist. I was surprised it was human. Not like The Guardian Legend where the spaceship was a girl or just the uniform or whatever never even clicked, not once. One of the very few games where I love every single track (except maybe Tourian). The order of the songs tell a perfect story with a beginning, rising action, climax, and resolution. TheMazzken well, I wasn’t around back then, but I feel your pain. I played Brawl with my brother and his friends a lot, or at least watched them. I played Splatoon 1 when it came out, those were the best times I had with a game
“The bad shit” has always been happening since the Dawn of Time. You merely weren’t paying attention and could not understand as a child, and that’s why everything seems happier and simpler back then.
Hey Mazzken, its cool to cry. I get it. Things from our past can touch our hearts deeply. Time marches on whether we like it or not. Enjoy the memories, make new better ones too.
The first theme song is so fucking epic. It fits so perfectly. It's like in the game Seamus keeps ascending and ascending and ascending. I dont know what I'm saying but that song gives me the fucking feels. Kraids lair is pretty good too..FUCK! SO nostalgic
kraid's lair gets the hype, but in terms of composition, norfair had the most jazzy music ever on a cart. the time signature, the full stop, the emotion of hysteria and confusion setting in as you encounter another dead end - used to imagine that the joints on the varia were rusting, a sort of acidic ectoplasm creeping into the circuitry... descending further into ridley's hideout, where a really hypnotic monotony of tones engages and ramps up the anxiety.. compelling samus into the futuristic structures deeeep within the catacombs of zebes, lined with holtz and dessageegas, and expansive corridors where you could imagine they dragged a mobile-tank mother brain down there to see the progress of the pirate hybridization processes...
Yeah, Castlevania and Metroid have some of the most atmospheric soundtracks ever heard in a game. Castlevania's mix of gloomy and upbeat tunes keep you moving through the difficult challenges, while Metroid's soundtrack makes you feel the hopeless sensation of being alone on a hostile alien planet, with nothing but your Power Suit and wits to aid you. Thank you, Hip Tanaka, and the various composers at Konami, for giving us music that sets the mood of the games we love!
*tears* I should have known better than to think I was the only one to love and appreciate the soundtrack from Metroid, particularly my favorites, 0:30 & 3:33. Brings back so many good memories. Thank you so much for posting this, bless you!
To be a kid back in the 80's, playing games like this, mario, zelda, punch out, ninja gaiden....you don't get experiences like that as a gamer these days anymore, not the type of variety kids of the 80's had.
I agree. Everyone just seems to play online all the time. Not that I begrudge it, but nowadays people are always playing first person shooters instead of other awesome games. Sometimes I feel that FPS games glorify war, when war is humanity at it's worst.
***** I've only played the original and Super, but I always felt like Metroid did its best to not glorify combat - the lone badasses of most other games have nightmares about the weight of isolation and anxiety that Samus has to wade through. She soldiers on, but I never once thought she was having a good time. Sure, she gets lots of neat powers, but there's something about limited ammo and health as numbers instead of a meter that makes the player keep an eye on their resources even when their twitch-instincts say KILL KILL KILL.
Yup same here. If you want, you can check out my track on soundcloud. soundcloud.com/pxlwlkr/kraids-lair-by-pxlwlkr I tried really hard to capture the feel of when you enter his lair. Excellent soundtrack, even in that time!!! I like so much Kraid's Lair theme that I only enter that zone for let go of my control and hearing it again and again for a long time. The other ones are so cool too. Torian theme reminds me the Monster Party scene that is a labyrinth mansion and lightnings strike at you. One section of Quick Escape reminds me Kid Icarus title theme (I think this game was made in 1987, one year after Metroid).
That title track is timeless and will live forever in my memory. I have no idea how much time I've spent idling on it and dreaming of worlds beyond Earth, but it's a lot.
Without a doubt one of my favorite games and OSTs from my early years. Although I must ask if Wiiguy309 has ever looked into the Japanese Famicom Disk System's Version of this game? The soundtrack in my opinion has subtle differences and enhancements that I think edge out the US based cartridge format.

Thank you Mr Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka for composing the awesome music on this classic game. Always wondered who the person was behind the name in the credits when I was younger. He also worked on classics such as Kid Icarus and Duck Hunt.
I just played Metroid for the first time ever. I’ve read some say you may as well start with Zero Mission due to being a remake of the NES original, but I really enjoyed the NES one, so I’m glad I started there. I hope I’ll enjoy the other Metroid games just as much. My favorite track from this soundtrack is Ridley’s Lair. It filled me with the most anxiety.
I remember playing this game and thought at that time it was too complex for my brain to master so i never made it to Kraigs Lair but that music is just mindblowing for it's time. I love see others speedrun this game specially the SNES version, think i might have to pick that one up at some point. Ridleys lair music is also awesome, you know you are in for some trouble when the music starts.
Mother Brain's theme is more fitting when you play the Zero Mission version of the game. You'll be cursing and holding yourself back from throwing your gameboy at the wall all while that music plays.
StygianTraveler141 metroid other m is not as bad as people make it out to be, though I agree the story telling was bad; I strongly disagree on metroid fusion.
i beg to dffer. i fucking love metroid. this series never gets the respect it deserves. where has any games been for 3ds or ds. the last one they made for handheld was metroid zero mission which is a remake of this game here. once again wiiguy, keep kicking ass dude
Metroid. when i was a little guy i never had this game for myself, but my cousin had it. every time i was over there the only thing i did was play Metroid. truly Metroid is my favorite game series on the face of the universe. now if you excuse me i need to go explore the dark dangerous depths of planet Zebes once more.
I'll always love the Metroid soundtrack, and that it eventually led to both Super Metroid and the Metroidvania genre.. but I gotta confess I don't actually /like/ the original Metroid. The highly repetitive rooms, the "always start with 30 health" quirk, the inability to shoot down... Don't get me wrong, it's not a /bad/ game, I just don't have the same love for it that I do say.. Mega Man 2 or Willow. It'll always be a classic and enjoyable game, but much like the original Legend of Zelda, it is not a game I consider "great" largely because I found the game quite tedious as a child.
I remember when my friend and I beat this game when we were like thirteen years old. I was nearly shitting my pants when he was trying to jump up the platforms after Mother Brain! That was probably fifteen years ago!
7:30 The Chozo theme still give me shivers. I understand why this game's soundtrack shook me when I was a child. The game really played at the concept of loneliness, and these soundtracks invoked those feelings.

Stefano96s I really like zero mission, it is a great remake.
Kraid's Lair is my favourite
"Enter Samus" directly into the Brinstar Theme will forever get me hyped up and wanting to go on an adventure
i beg to dffer. i fucking love metroid. this series never gets the respect it deserves. where has any games been for 3ds or ds. the last one they made for handheld was metroid zero mission which is a remake of this game here. once again wiiguy, keep kicking ass dude
Passed this game about 28 years ago!
EPIC nostalgic soundtrack!
Metroid. when i was a little guy i never had this game for myself, but my cousin had it. every time i was over there the only thing i did was play Metroid.
truly Metroid is my favorite game series on the face of the universe. now if you excuse me i need to go explore the dark dangerous depths of planet Zebes once more.
Kraig's music is the best
I beat both Metroid and Zelda and they're both classics. Sorry to hear that you sucked at video games when you were a kid.
dios q tesoro este track en serio casi lloro de la nostalgia demonios me suscribo ya
The escape after beating mother brain was amazing too.
I did. It was amazing and magical back in the 80's trust me.:) good work btw.
