I've heard and having read it agreed that this book (specifically the Picatrix) was likely the inspiration for the Necronomicon... The history Lovecraft created is very reminiscent, at least.
@duckgoat7570 Have you read the Picatrix? In large part it is based on "The Nabatean Agriculture", a book about spells and practices that were ancient when the Picatrix was written. If you want to adopt the application of techniques from the Bronze Age (but not, notably, adopting the ideology & theory of the Nabatean) to creating real-world effects, you're welcome to do so. Me, I'll stick with what we've learned in the 3000 years since, I'll take antivenom to reverse scorpion stings and proxemics and catfishing to do love spells, lidar for buried treasure. It's only in the areas where we've neglected or even thrown away scholarship that going back that far has practical value... I'm not saying there's no area where magic might be of use, but I wouldn't do it, myself. Where it works it's in spite of the theory and grimoires, in my opinion, and where it doesn't work it is absolutely rock-bottom dangerous. A good example, oft cited, is some of the traps in that book. In particular, there are a few places where it describes creating elixirs for ensuring the secrecy of buildings and laboratories for the work. The idea is you give these potions to the workmen that built it, and they probably would do that job of keeping it secret. The potions use rancid almonds in such a way as to concentrate the arsenic, which would if prepared as the book suggests kill anyone drinking it. That would indeed keep the site a secret-- but I think there might be better mechanisms to do it, personally. Way I see it, difference between prayer and magic is that prayer is preparing yourself for the universe, and magic preparing the universe to fit you. There's some overlap, but I think it's a mistaken practice in general, one where the best outcome you can hope for is for it to be ineffective. If it works, you've generally just compounded the problem. Science & engineering, medicine & mechanisms, these are a lot more forgiving that way, in my opinion -- and better regulated. I like the FDA making sure my potion makers are putting into my elixirs what they say, and that those concoctions do what they're supposed to. And I'll fly with either an airplane or ketamine, depending on the context, rather than looking for witch's sabbath. But that's my choice, you can make your own decisions.

Great to hear from Dr. Saif, I’ve been following her work for a few years now and it’s safe to say her Picatrix will be the publishing event of the year for me (in whatever year that may occur!) One mild criticism I have - and this is actually aimed in general at the TH-cam esoteric community - is the seeming blind spot around German scholarship. Here’s a good example of it: I’ve never heard Martin Plessner’s name mentioned anywhere around here, but his 1962 translation of the Picatrix from the original Arabic of the Gayat Al-Hakim was momentous and followed decades of research and publications. It had a short Forward in English and the level scholarship throughout has not been superseded. It was published as vol 27 of The Studies of the Warburg Institute. It was based on the first scholarly edition of the original Arabic text, edited by Helmut Ritter and published already in 1933 as vol XII of the Studien der Bibliothek Warburg.
I want to know how astrology plays a role in magic? I know so much about astrology and I even know how to read birth charts, I’m wondering how the two align. Do you think the Picatrix, Shams Al-Maarif (and maybe The Lesser Key of Solomon) probably share the same theories and remedies in performing magic rituals? Do you think a syncretism of methodologies of performing the dark arts from all the 3 above-mentioned books actually exists?
Hello Filip, The rituals mentioned here resemble a lot to the practices of Wicca, which I came to learn in a similar vlog. Does that mean that Wicca and all such practices sprang from Picatrix?
The problem with interpreting a occult text is that you have to adopt the perspective which the writer or occult order is on. That perspective is not always clear. I have been obsessed on the subject of the occult and the common theme you will see is about initiation which covers what i just said. Occult magic heavily relies on the mental faculities which is the reason why initiation is neccessary. This is often symbolized with death and rebirth. The number one aspect of occult magical practice is BELIEF. Belief is the limiter to any thing even outside of the context of occult magic. Based on my perspective i view occult magic as a form of hypnotism aka suggestion. Of course im viewing this from the outside so i cannot prove or disprove any of the other specific details a practicioner would be using. So if you look through this with a mentalist's lense you see that it is possible this may be real what they claim is. Through a materialist's lense its not possible at all.

As far as it goes, I believe. It seems to be an idea from pre-history. The moon effects the tides, the tides effect certain human affairs, the rest may be extrapolated from there.
There are several translations of the Latin Picatrix, including the one by Dan Attrell and David Porreca which I have listed in the sources in the description. But there is also a new translation of the Arabic Ghaya by Dr. Saif coming soon.
Naturally the one on Music is very interesting to me. I also love the fable of the animals who take humanity to court for abusing them. Also, I haven't read all 50 epistles.
Thanks for covering this topic although the Occult magic world has always bored me. Its sinister intent is not in keeping with the love of our Creator.
Magic is hidden truth. Governments are magical. Fools call a stick a wand. If you pick a tricks, you know the shtick. Those who accomplished the work of their shadow, use it to mask the truth from others for clout, and stirring the pot makes a cloud. Weather or not you will be under their reign.
UNFORTUNATELY, this book seems to be totally restricted to Rajasic and Tamasic aspects. Satwic goal is totally ignored. No wonder that Venus is the ruler of the Middle East.
Truth is neither of the three, hence described as "Trigunatita". That differentiation between the three gunas is what created the caste system in Hinduism. Truth is truth. Half-truth isn't better than ignorance, it is often worse, because it creates an illusion of superiority.
I'm actually scared to watch this episode. the last time watched an episode about the other book of magic ( I don't want to even mention the name) weird and bad things happened to me lol and Im normally not that superstitious 🤐
What I always wonder is why non-Spaniards keep insisting on conflating Al-Andalus with Andalusia. They are definitely not the same. Andalusia is a Christian construct based on the memory of the former Moorish Al-Andalus. Today, it's the official name of a region and political administration, but it doesn’t exactly align with the historical Al-Andalus. Please stop using "Andalusia" in that way-it’s a bit of a legacy from the romanticized ideas of 19th-century British travelers. These travelers were enchanted by tales reminiscent of The Arabian Nights, drunk on exoticism and Orientalist fantasies. By then, however, Andalusia was no longer a land of Al-Andalus but a fully Christianized region, deeply rooted in Mediterranean Catholic culture. The remnants of Al-Andalus were already long gone, reduced to little more than pseudohistorical memory.

I've always thought that "Picatrix" was way too unserious a name for a treatise on magic...
Gyatt al-Hawkim (gyatt, hawk tuah)
Toronto Thelema is presenting a workshop on this very topic in December, this is a great supplemental video/discussion.
i bought this book in english from a publisher in BC canada many years ago magic should be done by islamic arabic praying
Marina Avramovic can’t wait to get the new book!
Rutbat al-hakim means: the rank of the sage.
How far back in history does the idea heavenly bodies can influence human affairs on earth go back to?
As far as it goes, I believe. It seems to be an idea from pre-history. The moon effects the tides, the tides effect certain human affairs, the rest may be extrapolated from there.
Idris a.s was given this knowledge
Where can i get copy of the arabic version. Hopefully it's useful for weight losing 🎉🎉🎉
I wonder howi much of the Picatrix was from prior gnostic groups in the area like the Mandaeans and Naasenes.
Ghayattttt dammmm
Reccomendation for a translated version? I'd like a copy
There are several translations of the Latin Picatrix, including the one by Dan Attrell and David Porreca which I have listed in the sources in the description. But there is also a new translation of the Arabic Ghaya by Dr. Saif coming soon.
At ~16:45, there are flashes of light. You should probably add a epilepsy warning or fix the footage somehow
Which of the Epistles of the Ikhwan as Saffa do you find most interesting?
Naturally the one on Music is very interesting to me. I also love the fable of the animals who take humanity to court for abusing them.
Also, I haven't read all 50 epistles.
Thanks for covering this topic although the Occult magic world has always bored me. Its sinister intent is not in keeping with the love of our Creator.
Stick out your Ghayat for Al Riz'lar
Magic is hidden truth. Governments are magical. Fools call a stick a wand. If you pick a tricks, you know the shtick. Those who accomplished the work of their shadow, use it to mask the truth from others for clout, and stirring the pot makes a cloud. Weather or not you will be under their reign.
Stop making up nonsense🤣 get mental help
@Mo_Mudabber so magic is sensible, lol how do you spell spell without truth or magic. Watch your spelling it could come back and haunt you.
ilm Hikmah is the most controversial branch of knowledge is islamic world, commoner are forbidden to learn the knowledge
2:47 Why are these scholars always spilling ink? They must be very clumsy.
hello🎉
Its really sad that the spamish burned all of these books when push the muslims out. So much lost knowledge
🖤🖤🖤
UNFORTUNATELY, this book seems to be totally restricted to Rajasic and Tamasic aspects. Satwic goal is totally ignored. No wonder that Venus is the ruler of the Middle East.
Truth is neither of the three, hence described as "Trigunatita".
That differentiation between the three gunas is what created the caste system in Hinduism. Truth is truth. Half-truth isn't better than ignorance, it is often worse, because it creates an illusion of superiority.
❤️💗✨

Make Andalucia Al-Andalus again
Bro that music , thats not the only scale… 🤦
Be careful with this because this book might unalive someone..im afraid for you..😬
