My theory is that you play between two time periods, and that the super crazy stuff on the house is his childhood and the time of him being evicted is when he's an adult, and that the children in the poster are the neighbours children. In the childhood portion of the game, maybe it's summer, I don't know but you have a lot of extra time on your hands and a wild imagination so you play games and pretend the neighbour is crazy. You pretend to be a spy or investigator (as kids do) and snoop around his house and accidentally discover that those missing kids in the posters (possibly even your friends before they disappeared) around town are in that house. But you're a kid and you're kind of oblivious but curious so instead of telling somebody you keep going back into his house to investigate and eventually find the basement. Maybe the neighbour went a bit bonkers and convinced himself somebody was out to get them so he hid his family in the basement. This could explain why he never hurts you when you're caught and instead kicks you out; he isn't hurting his family (or at least, he thinks he doesn't) so he has no reason to kill you to keep quiet. He starts laying out traps because he begins to think you too are out to get him and after this discovery the game focuses on breaking them out and battling your post traumatic stress of having to save kidnapped children. The house you move back into could be your late parents property that you HAD to move into because you were broke. Seeing the neighbours house triggered the events and you're constantly going back and forth between the two time periods.

And you were good so you were often able to stay out around the house...but the girl was bad and often punished my being locked in the basement. Like for the mini games, it's a metaphor for how you were forced to "hide" you true identity from others by the neighbor (if that makes sense)? It would also make sense why you hear the scream and why in earlier part of the game, there was a mattress in the basement. This is just my theory. What I think happened was that you tried to go in the basement and then your father (the neighbour) locks you in a coffin as a punishment (I've heard of abusive parents doing this in real life). At the end of alpha 3 where the neighbour is crying, that could be him faking that he is sorry for being a bad father and then he grows into a giant (like in beta 3) and that's where you have to stand up to the neighbour and show him you're not afraid of him anymore. The neighbour obviously hates his (possible) son (the protagonist) for a reason and I think that the mother died of childbirth and the neighbour blames his son for her death, so he puts his son through all kinds of trauma. Locking him in a very small cupboard, leaving him in a supermarket and letting him get bullied at school. This is my theory on the neighbour and his son.

The neighbour is sitting up there looking at the main character who is his son? He is the neighbour's only son but the other 3 kids on the kids sign were abducted and the main character accidentally found out his dad abducted some children while he was still a kid and he was horrified. His dad didn't want him to find out about this dark truth so he did whatever to keep his son away from the basement, but the son went into the basement by chance and met the boy(girl) and they became best frds. Then somehow his best frd got into an accident and died (maybe while escaping?) So when the son goes back to the house after he's grown up this past is haunting him so much. Just my guess.

First of all the greenhouse is an easter egg of Greenhouse, and 2nd there's actually a place to put the golden apple to see the cutscene
My theory is that u are between two time periods. with the one time period, u are remembering stuff as a child?/when u had an imagination. The other one is that u remember that and start to have an imagination again.
Another is how the mother/wife goes to the store, then to pick up the son. Then on the way there, the mom/wife gets in a car accident with a pizza truck. The pizza truck crashes into the lake, and only the son survives because the neighbor sold his soul to the devil in order to save his son's life.The mother goes to the hospital with the neighbor, only to find out she died, and the son lived. Sorry for it being so long. I love u!

The neighbour is sitting up there looking at the main character who is his son? He is the neighbour's only son but the other 3 kids on the kids sign were abducted and the main character accidentally found out his dad abducted some children while he was still a kid and he was horrified. His dad didn't want him to find out about this dark truth so he did whatever to keep his son away from the basement, but the son went into the basement by chance and met the boy(girl) and they became best frds. Then somehow his best frd got into an accident and died (maybe while escaping?) So when the son goes back to the house after he's grown up this past is haunting him so much. Just my guess.
Well, there are still a good number of churches that have a parsonage attached. Maybe there will be a scene where the pastor/priest comfort someone? Maybe the neighbor? Hmm. . .
The shadow Boy/Girl is not the children from the missing poster *(The poster actually used to say SIMMING.)* Those are the Neighbors kids. But the shadow thing is the Neighbors hate and sins coming to haunt and possess him. This is not a theory. This is something real that everybody said and the dev said so. I hope I was helpful. 👧🏻👍🏻👍🏻

the neighbour was at work in the FACTORY and was walking to get some groceries at THE GOLDEN APPLE when he was phoned by the SCHOOL saying his son (not the protaginist but maybe another) had been in a fatal injury, he drove to the school and took him to the HOSPITAL, where he died, so they had a funeral in the CHURCH and he was buried att the MONUMENT.

The green house with the m13 on it is a easter egg to a youtuber who made a cheat this alot similar to the one your using, I think the developers knew he was going to make another cheat thing for beta 3 and put it there for an Easter egg

My theory
The neighbors son went missing died in the car crash and the missing girl was the neighbors daughter who went missing since judging from her screams went mentally I'll since her brother died, so the neighbor did a ritual to bring him back in the basement where his daughter stays with her brother but is in the figure of a ghost
Maybe in a future update the neighbor in the wall will actually be looking at you and laughing at you in the beginning, and you can use the binoculars in the room to look at him?
I think the devs were intending that but the neighbor is somehow lower then intended.
