    Great review. Just ordered the NASB Quentel PS in Imperial Blue and then impulse added the Imperial Blue Journal to go with it. I finished seminary in 1987 and have used rough and tumble bibles and journals for over 30 years. Looking forward to the years ahead with these beautiful resources from Schuyler. The index and page numbers give the Schuyler journal the edge.

    These are really tempting, but I have recently started using my iPad to journal and take notes - never thought I’d be that person, but the Apple Pencil makes a huge difference, and being able to edit and add pictures and graphs and stuff easily is quite satisfying… if you haven’t done so already, check out the ESV Digital Scripture Journal - there’s something to be said for pairing a nice unmarked Bible with your iPad where you can write a billion messy (or neat) notes on a pdf copy, heck keep a few pdf’s for different uses - I’ve mostly been journaling and adding visual cross references, but your imagination is the limit, it’s incredibly versatile, and really gets you interacting with the text in new ways.

      There's definitely some great digital options out there as well.

    Hi Tim, I’ve been wondering about these, and once again, it is so nice to have a comparison review. I would purchase the Schuyler. I like the concept of the index pages, like some of the bullet journal’s. Additionally, the page numbers are a must, especially if you have an index. 💖

    Yesterday I ordered the Zondervan Premier NRSV single column, which is black with purple gilding. So instead of getting a black Schuyler journal to go with it, I got a dark purple one. I think they’ll go beautifully together, and I can’t wait to receive them in a few days. 😊

    I really like the Allan notebook for the smaller size

    I'd have to choose the Schuyler, no doubt. It looks amazing! 💕

    I do have the schuyler journal and love it. With the price point the same on both publishers schuyler has the edge. Especially with the cream pages 😊

    I like using field notes. Keep that in mind. Super cheap. They also have different size books

    What are these Allen & Schuyler paste down lined with? Looks like card stock for Schuyler and vinyl for the Allens

    • @timwildsmith
      @timwildsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their websites don’t give any details, but it looks like cardstock.

    Thanks Tim, a good size and visual comparison. That’s helpful as you always want to know sizes and visually how they look before buying.
    Since these are notebooks though, you really needed to show us a writing sample. I use fountain pens extensively and so I wouldn’t buy any paper which wasn’t “fountain pen friendly” (as the FP community say!). Expensive paper (or high GSM paper) does not necessarily mean it has good properties for writing with fountain pens. You might not have a fountain pen, but even a sample page of writing with ballpoint, felt marker (Sharpie), Micron, rollerball or gel-tip to show feathering, bleeding and show through are critical for making an informed purchase. For $50+ it would be useless if the paper feathers with a rollerball or has significant show through (ghosting) with a ballpoint biro. Just a tip for your next review of notebooks.

    I'd go with the Schuyler for the index & page numbers but I'd like to see them make a smaller version similar to Allan's notebook.

      Bigger? That would be epic!

    Why just get a regular notebook?

    The goatskin on the Allen Notebook looks amazing! But the Schuyler wins overall. You can't beat page numbers and a concordance.
    Edit: If I had to pick between the three you have personally, the goatskin on that notebook would sway me. Wow!

    I have a question: Does the Schuyler journal lie flat on its own?

    • @dougvb2096
      @dougvb2096 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at first. If opened from the middle yes. But with a little use it will.

    • @timwildsmith
      @timwildsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tobie Jo... it does not open flat for me now, but it feels like it will with more use and some breaking in.

      I'm sure there's a lot of great journals out there, Louis, but this video was specifically about the ones people have asked about from Schuyler and Allan.

    $65 just to "keep track of things around the house"? This is realistically out of most people's budget.

  • @dougvb2096

    While these are sold as Goatskin covers by both companies, it is Goatskin over board. It is not floppy like their Bibles.

    • @timwildsmith
      @timwildsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually not over board, Doug... but because of the liners, they are not at floppy as the edge-lined Bibles.
