Went to San Francisco last month, last time before that was 19 years ago and we took our kids this time and we all loved it! We also did Alcatraz and we all really enjoyed it. Never felt unsafe at all but we knew which areas to stay away from. It’s a beautiful city. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great job on this. I agree with you that Alcatraz is an emotional place to visit. Great to see our old stomping grounds. My husband and I met in the SFO Bay area and then moved in San Diego for a few years. I'm looking forward to the rest of your vlogs in Cali!
These sight seeing videos are the perfect compliment to themeparkworldwide. Love seeing the local landmarks your able to fit into your adventures. Keep up the great work!
I went here back in 1996!! Still have very vivid memories of Alcatraz & Fisherman's Wharf. Hope you found the time to go on the old trams...they're great!
You are bringing back so many childhood memories! We toured California, vegas, san Francisco and loads of other places i don’t remember now! We couldn’t get to go to Alcatraz i cant remember why so its great to see it. Loving these vlogs, thank you
I live about 7 hours from San Francisco. First went to Alcatraz when I was about 7 or 8 years old. It's a really awesome tour from what I remember. So glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent video Charlotte and Shawn Sanbrooke from San Francisco with a visit to Alcatraz Island. keep the good videos coming on the channel. Charlotte and Shawn Sanbrooke. 😀😃😎👍👍👍👍👍👍
Just came across your channel and found this tour to be very informative. Having worked in a prison for approximately 26 years, I have a keen interest in all things related to prison/corrections. It was like visiting a different country. What held water on the outside may not be the norm on the inside. I’m looking forward to seeing the related videos on your trip to San Francisco.
Hi Shawn & Charlotte Big thanks for this blog. One of the best I’ve seen about Alcatraz. We ( wife) and I really liked listening and learnt so much on all the facts about this prison 👏👏 Take care both 👌
Thank you so much guys, great video. Alcatraz looks an amazing place to visit but so spooky too. Would love to do that tour as looks brilliant. I think the night time tour would be epic, however I think it would be a case of watch your back.
I am so invested in your guys all the travelling etc! Its what id like to do with my hubby once the kids are older! These adventures u have will be with u forever u look like the best of friends aswell! Love you both! Great vlog ❤
So glad you guys got a sunny day for your visit to Alcatraz! I hope you enjoyed the city. It's where I was born and raised so it holds a special place in my heart now that I've moved away. The other bridge is the Bay Bridge that heads over to Oakland. The island it's built through is Treasure Island which was the location of the 1939 San Francisco Worlds Fair. It was a lesser known worlds fair because it was overshadowed by the 1939 New York Worlds Fair.
i went to frisco last yr ,and great america california , i saw alcatraz from the docks , but i never did go to it , ialways wanted to go there! ty so much for this wonderfully presented video of alcatraz , i can hardly imagime the mixture of emotions going to ALCATRAZ i also was not aware of the indian occupation ! this i why i really love your channel , i never thought only $50 to go to alxatraz , thanks again for this volg , one of your best , then again all your vlogs are top notch!! very well done!! take care
✅Very Nice Tour guys... MPRAVO... ✅Unfortunately i can't visit this prison, because i live away... ⚠If I want to buy a ticket for the ferry to visit the island, do I have to do it online or can I also buy a ticket there at No. 33 in the port? ⚠And if for example I want to visit the island in the morning, can I then take the evening ferry to come back?
That on my bucket list to go to Alcatraz jail that was amazing but I can’t do that anymore as I got breathing issues back in 2017 I did Bodmin jail in Cornwall that was amazing to
Bringing back memories from our Honeymoon back in 2010, we did San fran, vegas and Hawaii. Loved Charlotte power walking up the hill, I was once fit like that *sob* lol! It's never changed, the menus is still up in dining hall, and the cells are done out the same, 12 years on! I think we must have bought a goldengate and alcatraz tour as I have pictures of us going under the golden gate bridge on the boat too, unless it was a seperate tour. We did a cool speed boat from fishermans wharf too, look fwd to tomorrows vlog from there. Glad you loved it too. 🙂
What a lovely place to visit and so much history i love it when you said showers a lot and broken toilets and how much was getting her steps in and almost running up the hills thanks 4 sharing both xx hugs
Great vlog. We did SF a few years back. A terrific tourist city, unlike anybother in the USA. Alcatraz was fascinating, and rode a bike over GG bridge which very cool.
I'm so envious, lol. I've been so lucky to travel to many countries America twice. However, on my list of making memories, San Francisco and the prison was 2nd after New Zealand. Unfortunately, my disability and age now stops me from fulfilling that dream. So, as you can imagine, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Keep on doing what you're doing, seize the day, and try your best not to keep putting things on hold. Hope you get my gyst. Thank you for sharing this amazing video 🎉
Alcatraz is a fantastic experience. Especially with ex inmates voicing the audio. SF is the best city ive ever been too. Expensive. But such a great city. 100° one minute , and 60° the next. Love it. Walk across the GG bridge if you can.
When I was there in early 90s you could sit in All Capones cell, not seen it mentioned on this tour. It had just been opened as a tourist venue after kicking the squatters off.
I see Coit Tower at 1:58. I hope you got to go there. I love San Francisco. I grew up in Sacramento. A little over an hour away. I’ve been to Alcatraz so many times. Hopefully one day you can be there for St.Patricks Day. It’s so much fun in SF. Lots of pubs with music and people are so nice.
Just wanted to clear one thing up that I’ve seen in the comments: The Golden Gate Bridge is named after the entrance to SF Bay. It was called the Golden Gate long before the bridge existed. The official name of the color of the paint on the bridge is “International Orange”.
Great to see you both there, I visited it 21st Sep 1998 on the very date you published your video 🤯 happy to see the place hasn’t been altered, but I don’t remember a gift shop.
I’ve always wanted to visit Alcatraz it’s such a historical place to visit. I’ve travelled across the States but never made San Francisco. Maybe it will be on my bucket list one day. I remember the movie too with Clint Eastwood.
I love both your channels shawn, 1st time commenting, the 1 on Alcatraz and the 1 in Rome was fantastic both keep up the great vlogs (side note to shawn)anytime you can get Charlotte wet,is so funny(sorry Charlotte)❤❤❤😅
Watching now brings back memories from my visit in 2017 , I did the audio tour and was lucky to do a behind the scenes tour later in the day where we went in the underground part where there were the original cave type cells and also areas normally off limits
Next time do the night tour. They open up the hospital wing where the Birdman of Alcatraz cell was in the phyco ward. It’s much more eerie aswell but bloomin freezing. Was there in August. Great fun. Also enjoying your vlogs. Keep em coming thanks 🙏
Great city, I've been there 2 weeks ago. Are you also planning to go to Muir Woods? It's a national park 25 minutes drive from SF, but beautiful with all the sequoias. Don't forget to reserve a parkingspot there.
Brings back memories of school fieldrips. I hope you and Charlotte went to the Exploratorium that is now at Fisherman's Warf. There is also the Star Wars Museum at the Presidio. Then the is Golden Gate Park.
Great tour Shawn and Charoltte. When i heard about a little bit fishy smell i was disgusted because i don't like the smell of fish it made me hold my nose.
Wow what a great video thank you so much ...We want to visit here at some point ...Have you seen the film Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood..He plays Frank Morris who was in cell 138. Great Film 🎥
Great tour guide Shawn! When I lived in San Diego for work, I was fascinated that we would have minor earthquakes a few times a week but when ever we went to the most active area of CA which up near San Francisco, I never felt any even though the San Andreas fault was there. Maybe the small quakes keep southern CA safe by blowing off the pressure slowly instead of the major that quakes happening occasionally in northern CA. I'm not a seismologist but I hope you get/got to feel a small one, very strange sensation. Lately in NJ where I live, we have been getting big quakes ... what are we doing to poor mother earth?!
Surprised they haven’t turned one of the buildings into a Hotel like they have with a couple of them in the UK !! You guys need to stay at Bodmin Jail Hotel it’s amazing as you get to stay in 3 of the cells and there’s a well good attraction there as well
I miss my friend Andy Dufrene some birds just aren't meant to be caged . For the second time in my life I committed a crime , parole violation, no one will put up much of a fuss for a old crook like me , get busy living or get busy dying, God damn right
If you haven’t seen it i recommend the movie “Murder in the First” starring Christian Slater and Kevin Bacon. It was described on the movie poster as "the case that took down Alcatraz". The story is fascinating and sad but important in the history of Alkatraz.

can you do a video on were the house is. were full house was filmed in. in San Francesco I think its some were were you are now. I would love to see. my childhood program used to watch it as a kid and even now as a adult.
Hi ya you two lovely people what a place alcatraz is we have been lucky enough to have been their twice both on the day and night trips the night trip was fantastic. 🎉
There's two more things Halloween related I wanted to mention should you have time. The retired Ocean Liner Queen Mary is kept permanently at Long Beach. There's an event called Dark Harbour taking place there right now that hasn't happened in the last five years. Haunted houses both on and off the ship, entertainment, merch and fairground rides. It would be awesome if you have time. Also the Whaley House museum, some say one of the most haunted houses in the USA, is located in Old Town San Diego. They offer a variety of tours, but I'd recommend the Ghosts & Gravestones tour. It's a year round tour that takes you around haunted places in San Diego aboard a bus that's made to look like a tram. It includes the outside of the Whaley House but not inside. It is an awesome tour. Sorry for these long winded comments, just wanted to make you aware for this trip or future ones.
