    I'm about 1/4 of the way from affording this wheel base but 3/4 of the way from having this haircut.
    I can definitely live with that.

    Proving once again why you’re the king of sim racing reviews Barry. I recently purchased a DD1 and the sim lab podium side mount based heavily on your previous reviews. The sim lab mount verbatim obviously but the DD1 based on the “potential” you mentioned in your DD2 review and hoping that would translate across to the DD1. Can confirm, as you have in this video, that it does and I couldn’t be happier.
    Thanks again Barry 👍😀

    THIS is where TH-cam and content makers like you are GREAT: I had done the update to firmware 352 beta and to Fanalab 1.23 beta two days ago and it felt SOOO off coming from 346 and 1.12! I had been experimenting for about two hours after, and while I was able to eliminate most of the oscillation, watching your video gave me some further clues as where to look and fine tune. THANK YOU SO MUCH, I love watching your vids, even if it’s about stuff I don’t have sometimes, as your expertise and input comes from a seasoned sim racer who has a gift putting the feel of a setup into words and make others understand how things are connected. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, keep up the great work!
    Added a few hours later: I was able to better my Daytona road course lap time by 4 tenth with the new firmware and finetuning via Fanalab and the ideas you had given me. Massive!!

    The 'nonlinearity under peak holding torque' is a reference to the progressive reduction (Vs time) of available torque from max instantaneous to max continuous, as required to prevent overtemp of the armature. It is a feature of virtually all motor controllers. Enabling the 'linearity' check box limits the available torque to 'max continuous' to ensure that the force feedback remains consistent under all conditions.
    'Linearity' is not a 'filter' in the usual sense.

    Xbox compatibility is tied to the wheel. Playstation compatibility is tied to the wheelbase. Not sure why each vendor decided to set it up that way, but that's what's going on. On the plus side: if you get a PS4 base, you can get an xbox wheel, and have compatibility across all possible systems.

    The interpolation setting was huge for me when I installed this beta last week. I had mine set to around 3 and it removed so much roughness from going off the road some or hitting a curb. Before that I was getting some force that was so strong that it was basically false FFB. I would not get on the throttle at times I actually could get on it if I set this filter. Feels much better and I feel more confident in sticky situations.

    First off I love your videos, top notch. I am soon to be in the market for an upgrade to my G29. I already got the CSL LC pedal set and I love it, the modular pedal configuration was the high selling point. Your videos have helped me pick both that out and my GT Omega Apex Wheelstand. Now I am looking to buy a new wheel from Fanatec. I mostly race ovals on iRacing. I haven't seen a review of the CSW V2.5 on your channel yet. I really am curious whether or not you recommend that wheel. I hope you are enjoying Christmas and thanks again for all the great content!

    It worry's me about this wheel win you keep Expressing it's weak. I have a package put to gather on their site. I chose Fanatec because they seem to have a complete package with the Sim world. I have Thrustmaster TX and it has clunky feel win floating center ,. Feels like a bad Hime joint on go kart tie rod. Not to mention the feel of dirt in steering shaft. Just looking to make a lasting rig that I am finally happy with. Thanks Barry for your hard work and a great channel.👍

    PS4 compatibility comes from having licenced PS4 code within the wheelbase's firmware; Xbox compatibility comes from the attached wheel rim, hence you can make the DD!/DD2 Xbox compatible with just a new rim. The PS4 version is ok value-wise as your get the F1 rim AND the podium shifter module.

    Im not sure, but I wonder if Barry might be misunderstanding the Linearity setting?
    I havent really done my homework here so I could certainly be wrong, but I interpret the Linearity setting as it will reduce overall strenght, to make sure any torque peaks will come through without clipping. So if anything, force "spikes" or other forms of very powerful forces (eg hitting a kerb at the bottom of eau rouge or similar) should be sharper and more defined in this setting.
    It should make you be able to feel the whole spectrum of forces without any of it being clipped due to lack of FF-strength, but at the cost of lower impact in the "normal" range of forces.
    Again, I haven't read any documentation about this setting, so I could be misunderstanding this.
    (also, I don't own the wheel so can't test it myself)

    Has Anyone experienced a build up of magnetism within the DD1 causing a lumpy resistance points (roughly 10 or 11 peaks of resistance within 360 degrees of rotation)? Restarting the wheel base removes the resistance points but they return over time if the wheel is used and remains powered on. The resistance is strong enough after a few hours that the wheel will not remain centred unless I hold it. If anyone has had this happen, have you found a fix?

I did not see the DD1 shaft in front of me yet, but in pictures and videos it looks to me as if it shouldn't be greased up because of the square rubber.. What do you think? Thanks in advance! Therefore the normal DD1 and DD2 can't be upgraded to PS4 compatibility, because they both do not have this PS4 Security Chip and therefore when attaching that blue Formula Wheel to a normal DD1 or DD2 doesn't make them PS4 compatible. This is well documented and its very surprising that you got this one wrong...

    I was really hoping the new drivers and FW would fix my DD2s fan issues....random 100% RPM at startup and idle....Nope, it’s even worse now. I’ll turn it on and the fan will go nuts until I start driving for awhile. Almost every time now. Before it wasn’t that bad.
    I’m not looking forward to pulling it off my chassis and having to send it back. Seriously, that’s major task for me. They should send me a new one and take this broken one back in a return package at least.

    • @OhItsThat
      @OhItsThat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Travis Lu Absolutely. It’s more expensive in the long run but if I’m willing to spend $1500+ on just a motor, I should be willing to pay a premium for premium wheels and QRs.
      Performance wise the Podium DD2 is getting better....way better. When I first got it in July it sucked. I was pissed I bought the DD2 then sold my CSW V2.
      Right now, beside the fact I’m going to have to send it back because of the fan issue....which is a huge inconvenience and a pretty big task itself.
      My only complaint with the DD2 is the QR system. It doesn’t reflect the price. I’m happy its backwards compatible but it came at the cost.
      I honestly wouldn’t mind using a usb cable and aftermarket wheel.

    After testing the Fanatec recommended and your settings with both Linearity on and off I prefer having it off, if I am looking to find more feeling in the tyres and wheel in corners what direction and what settings would you suggest? My CSWv2.5 with near recommended settings felt very natural and intuitive in corners and grip among iRacing/ACC, I can't get this to feel the same in iRacing using SBRS or Porsche 911 RSR.
    Appreciate it! p.s I emailed for international order on a shirt a month ago and got no reply? Should I email again?

    Hi all **please read** .. i want to say I've just replicated the exact settings (in iracing and fanatec) used in this review on my DD2. Now the feel of the wheel and while driving is truly the best i've ever felt it, BUUUUT.. and i mean a very big BUT.. i lost control on one corner and hit the wall, not a hard hit but i warn you all now the strength of the FFB in the wheel at that point was insane!!! in fact waaaay too strong and borderline dangerous! so please just be careful. Love your video's Barry, i just wanted to highlight this issue.

    If you turn on linearity (which lowers the overall effects), have you tried to raise the FFB forces in-game to get to the same strength as before? Maybe you would get the same amount of detail but have guaranteed linear forces, which I hear is quite important. What do you think Barry? Have you tried that?

  • @deandre1988
    @deandre1988 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interpolation should be set on a per engine basis, not per car basis. Also, interpolation need isn’t subjective. If the Hz of the game engine is low, you want a light interpolation. No real car has that grainy feel while rotating the car: it’s a purely digital to analog artifact caused by the refresh rate of the engine not maxing out the wheel refresh rate (1000hz)
