Taal Lake is a freshwater lake in southwestern Luzon, Philippines, that fills the caldera of an ancient volcano. It is the third-largest lake in the country, with an area of about 24,356 hectares (60,186 acres). It was once an arm of Balayan Bay, but was closed off from the sea by volcanic eruptions between 500,000 and 100,000 years ago.
