      You did the math wrong. Calculating probability required factorial notation (3!x=f(x)) please don’t click air when you are below the age of 4.

    Video starts at 2:33 if you didn't drop out of school at the age of 7. Start at 5:50 actually and you should be good.

    You fell into a trap when you (the narrator) said that odds of 25 to 75 mean that there is a 25 per cent chance of an event happening. In fact, 25-75, reduced to odds of 1-3, mean that there is a 75 per cent chance the event WILL happen. This is called "odds on," or "prohibitive favorite" at the race track. All the time people confuse odds against something happening, with the chances OF an event happening. What you stated as 25-75 you meant to state as 3-1, if you want to demonstrate something having a 25 per cent chance of happening. Other than that, I think you are fine. But please make this correction. If you are going to teach people about odds or any subject matter, you need to know more about it than they do.

  • @renduke
    @renduke 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    say you have 4 clubs.....only the river to come = 9 outs
    9 x 2 = 18%=about 5 to 1
    but if you are getting 3 to 1 that would be fair value right ? 4 to 1 should give you edge no ?

    • @NaihanchinKempo
      @NaihanchinKempo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +renduke they need to be the same, or the cost needs to be cheaper than the chance ..at the turn it needs to cost 19% of the pot or less to be profitable in the long run

    • @nikolamladenovic4968
      @nikolamladenovic4968 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +renduke 1/5 from outs u need 5/1 from pot, 3/1 means you should win 1 in 3 times but you only win 1 in 5 times if you're not drawing dead, 1 in 4 is a little closer but you still have negative mathematical gain.

    • @mikeabrahams679
      @mikeabrahams679 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have it wrong. You want a better return on your money than you pay for, so if your draw is 4:1 you want to be earning more for your money so your win must be say 5:1, not 3:1. Remember though that what you perceive as an out could also improve you opponents hand. Also, a draw on the flop could leave you facing another bet on the turn so unless your opponent is all in on the flop you should use the 2 multiplier for safety.

    • @martinhesketh4916
      @martinhesketh4916 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      18% is approx 4.6:1, so say 5:1
      We have a pot of $10 and we need to call $2 to stay in the hand
      5x2 =10 so hero should call
      Now say with have a pot of $25 and need to call $6 to stay in the hand (still 5:1 odds)
      5x6 =30 bad odds, so fold.

  • @michaelbelson8916
    @michaelbelson8916 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I enjoyed the video but I'm more confused now than I was before watching it. Here's why:
    1. You said you should express payout odds as "win amount: bet amount"
    2. Then, in your example, with the dollar and the penny, you expressed it the other way around, as "bet amount: win amount."
    Why did you do this?!! Was it a mistake, or is there something I'm missing!?

    • @martinhesketh4916
      @martinhesketh4916 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mistake, he should have used the same numbering convention as earlier, you are correct. That should have been 1.01:1

    It takes so long to teach you something stupid.

    • @NaihanchinKempo
      @NaihanchinKempo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jessé Ferry Pot odds :Divide your call into the pot..to figure out the drawing odds or % chance of hitting a hand(not winning, just hitting a hand) Count your outs(cards you need to hit a hand)then X4 after the flop and X2+1 or 2 at the turn.So, IF you have 4 outs on either end to hit a straight that's 4X8+2=34% and 2x8+1=17% is the % chance to hit the straight.. to call it needs to cost no more than 17% of the pots cost, to be profitable in the long run ..the pot odds and Drawing odds need to be the same ..See how easy that was ?
