      We tested a similar set on a 4runner and they hold quite well as an entry level. Ideally for those who don't want to spend a ton but want to get into off-roading a bit to feel it out.

    I just bought a 2006 Tundra SR5 double cab 4x4 and ordered the 5100s from Shock Surplus for the front. I have the Bilstein 4600 in rear. What is the max lift you can install in the front without having to make changes to other suspension components? Also, what is the 5100 max lift for a 4x4? I like the rake look but I'm thinking just a small lift in the front at this time that would keep me from having to do other suspension modification/upgrades at the moment. I want to crawl into this new world of truck lifting. The only towing I do is a 5x8 trailer with a zero turn mower, edger and string trimmer, so nothing too heaving. I do wildlife photography and mountain biking so I do go onto trails but not rock crawling etc. Also, can you offer any tire size recommendations? Thanks...

      Bilstein 5100s work, Fox 2.0 snap rings work, eibach pro truck shocks work. You can also use a strut spacer from a bunch of different brands

  • @brendan9293
    @brendan9293 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice explanation of the front lift. I see 5100s advertising 0-1" lift in the rear but I see people online saying you only get lift with blocks or AAL. Can I get that inch with the 5100s in the rear to keep things level?

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You cannot get any lift in the rear of your Tacoma from the shocks themselves. You need to get a rear block, rear add a leaf or a rear full leaf pack.

      @@ShockSurplusthanks for the info and great video. So is it possible to just upgrade the front shocks to Bilstein and run your stock oem shocks In rear if your just looking for a small front level? I have a newer taco and I think the rears are still good, wondering if the mix and match is possible or?

      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its not safely-possible, we've heard of some people doing that, but its not advised. Do you have the Tacoma or the 4Runner? We may have a pair of those here we could set at the right height, and make a trade? Ours are slightly used, contact us

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว

      To adjust the collar, you would need to remove the front struts assembly and have the spring compressed. The lower spring seat can then be moved away for a bit. You need a Circlip tool to then move the circlip to a different lower settings.

    Does this make the car more plush or ia it better through out the city also

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They definitely will feel a little firmer than stock in most cases, but the majority of our customers prefer the ride on the 5100s to their stock suspension. If you are looking for something more on the plush side some Fox 2.0 Snap Rings or Eibach Pro Truck Sports might be the better call

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup they are probably one of the best shocks on the market under a load, which also means they are on the firmer side unloaded. Eibachs are a good sweet spot for somebody looking for a soft ride but still want something markedly better than stock under a load

      You do not need 3" to clear 285s on a 3rd gen Tacoma.
      285/70/17 or 285/75/16.
      You need to remove the mud flaps, you will rub a bit at the cab mount under full lock and possibly the lower part of the bumper depending on the tire. What we have on one a 3rd gen Tacoma in our fleet is do the cab mount chop and viper cut just make it easy.
      There's also no coilover or strut assembly that we offer that will net you more then 2" on average with the exception of Icon which is 2.25"
