I also love a good white shirt which I wear opened up at the neck with a string of pearls. Such a versatile top. Last wore it with a feminine jeans jacket!
Retired art teacher here and yoga lover (ie, lots of yoga pants, I know not a good look). I struggle with what to wear in my coastal California home where the fashion is generally dictated between flip flops and dress flip flops. Because of you, I bought (well in decades) my first straight leg mid-intensity jeans. And do I love them! I also bought a beautiful camel corduroy blazer. I’m stepping up my game and think I still fit in here in my home town. Thank you for your sweet, inspiring and informational videos.
Thanks Kay; I totally agree that a white button down is a wonderful staple! When I have the occasional off day and feel like nothing looks right, one of my white shirts will come to the rescue. I can get out the door on time and looking put together with no drama and no pile of unworn shirts to hang up when I get home.
I'm not as fond of the feeling of a crisp cotton shirt So I tend to wear blouses. I have my eye on a Lily silk basic white button-down that I think will fill the bill and give me the softness that I'm looking for. Also thanks for mentioning about matching the intensity of color in jeans and shoes. That makes so much sense and was a missing piece in my outfit building tool kit!
I m from India but I love to wear white shirt .. I really appreciate your style sense .. I just love this type of cool modern elegant looks which defines our senior persona.. thanks for this beautiful video..
I love shirts, especially white ones. I have a few white shirts, but I almost always choose my no-iron linen one. I would wear shirts more except for having to do so much ironing, I tend to wear knit tops like t-shirts at home instead.
I love wearing white button up shirt with fitted maxi skirt and tie the shirt in the front. Usually with tennis shoes but also skin tone Sandles or black ankle boots
I think you hit all the major points on a white shirt. I personally like them. When I don’t know what to wear, I often go to my white shirt. Thank you!
I bought a white button up from Talbots this year. I’ve always been a fan of tailored button up shirts. However the Talbots shirt I bought is oversized. I have been enjoying it.
I agree, quality is everything in cotton shirts. I’ve never been happy with the fast-fashion ones I’ve bought; the fabric is thin, sheer, rough, doesn’t wash well or iron properly and puckers like crazy. I never even put them in the dryer, but they shrink like mad just from washing. Button placement and collars are often weird, too, or cuffs are too skimpy to roll up. I’d rather pay twice as much and get a good quality one that I will love.
Yes, I did enjoy these tips. I have been overhauling my wardrobe and found the H & M “Conscious” line cotton shirts to be my fav when it come to an affordable shirt. They don’t have pockets and you can size up if you want a looser fit. The cotton is a thicker cotton and way to iron (I use heavy steam) and they last. I have 4 colors black, olive green, white & blue & white striped. I too like to “pop” my collar with certain looks so I have a different shirt for that look, but these are my definite go-to. I am 5’ 3.5”, short waisted, big busted (42DD), and a size 14. I think they are under $30. They wash & dry well and they are 100% cotton, no pockets. I am never able to fit most shirts because of my large bust so these are my favorites. I feel with a good ironing they look very neat and nice. ❤😊💁🏻♀️
I stayed away from button up shirts during the pandemic opting for more comfy clothes. I’m finding new excitement in dressing up again, but as I age structured shirts and blouses aren’t fitting the same. As a sewist I’ve been working on perfecting the adjustments for the proper fit of a button up shirt or blouse. I think a white or off white blouse is classic. Thank you for tips on how to wear it and look our best!❤️
My favorite shirt is a white linen button down shirt- I rarely put it in the dryer- if ever- but it’s been so loves that the elbows are wearing through. Hoping to find another I love as well.
I love wearing white cotton shirts. I just wear them with jeans. I also, have blue shirts that I like to wear. I have been experimenting with wearing scarves with the white shirts. I watch the videos on Pinterest to try to learn different ways to tie them.
Thanks, Kay, for all your tips and suggestions for wearing this closet staple in a multitude of ways. Sometimes a shirt is just the thing you need! Glad you're on the mend. 😊
A classic white shirt has been a staple in my closet for years. I think boys, of all ages, should have one in their closet, too. Perfect for weddings, special occasions and look respectful for funerals. My opinion.
Thank you Kay for all the suggestions. I’ll have to get a white shirt and watch this video again to see all your ideas. Glad to see you’re feeling well.
I think a white shirt looks so classic, personally I have never been a big fan for myself, I think the white washes me out, but I see with a topper it might work. also I wore white shirts with uniforms all through high school, I realize I tend to think of it as a "uniform" piece! I will try and branch out, because they do seem so versatile and classic. thanks for the tips
The fabric and sleeve width has been one reason I have steered clear of the white button down in the past. I have two in the closet now, neither have that "just right" feeling to them. Thank you for the suggestions and links.
I have a large bust and I look for a BACK YOKE PLEAT. I find I don't have gapping because the pleat gives me extra ease where I need it. The bonus is that I don't have to size up to fit over my bust. But without a back pleat is a deal breaker. I'm better off wearing a men's shirt. The white or chambray oversized shirt with black leggings has been my signature look for decades now. I'm not excited about being a "trend".
I didn’t have any white button up shirts in my closet last year. This year I think I have three. I just kept buying them. And I ordered a white and blue striped one. It hasn’t arrived yet. I love button up when the weather gets cooler, like it is right now. I just hope it stays this way.
I have just ordered a white button up from Untuckit. My husband likes their shirts, so I thought I’d try one of their womens styles. Thanks for the tips!
....I believe that the White Button Down has always been a Classic... I've had one ( or more !) in my wardrobe since I was in my 20's. Even just for wearing around home,...since the 70's... it's a clean, classic look. I would wear a white button down, ( often just untucked, but always ironed ) with a pair of straight leg jeans, and flats or all white trainers, or a low heeled loafer shoe. I prefer an untucked shirt that's a bit more fitted... It is a look that's ready to go , if you leave the house and will look pulled together. Dress it up with a blazer and different shoes, a great handbag and simple jewelry. Thank you, Miss Kay !
A white button-up (and/or button-down) shirt is indeed a classic staple, as your many styling ideas have shown. Your comments regarding the quality of the fabric are spot on as well. I’m sure many of us have noticed that shirts and sweaters from the men’s wear department are very often of higher quality than their equivalent in the women’s wear department. (A topic of discussion for another time?). Perhaps this is because, generally speaking, men tend to wear clothing on much more frequent repeat. With the current oversized trend, perhaps taking a look at a man’s shirt is an option. Not one person in a thousand will notice that the buttons are on the “wrong” side.
Love the white button-up shirt. I sometimes size up to avoid the narrowness in the sleeves. It works wonders. I appreciate all the style tips for this wardrobe staple.
I like to have mine starched, especially if oversized. It gives it a nice body. I have a vintage cotton blouse from 1999 (gained weight and glad I saved it because it fits again) in a wonderful textured, almost white on white pattern feel. I wish they made white blouses in interesting cotton fabrics too. Thanks for the tip on manufacturers. The Shirt by Rochelle Behrens also has strategic button placement, a bit more $ but an option.
Great ideas. I have always loved a white shirt. Long and loose or tailored, I always have both. For the summer a loose white linen is my go to. Loved all your styling examples. ❤️
Ann Tailor and Brooks Brothers make a great tailored (non-iron) white button down. I noticed that brogues 👞 are also trending. Please show us how to style them in fresh new ways!
I love the classic white button up! It looks fab. Just not on me..... I guess an off white shirt won't look just as classic. LOL! I didn't think so. Another reason I avoid white ''anything'' is how badly it stains. I gave up white a long time ago. But it really is a classy look. I guess I'll just have to make my own classic look with colors that look good on me. TY Kay, great ideas and looks!
You explain the "why" of so many things which helps understanding. I have not had a lot of success with the "half tuck". When I try to do it, it looks messy and contrived, and I don't like how the back looks.
I like the look of white button up shirts, but I haven't found one yet in a material that I like. I'm going to hunt now for one where the fabric is soft and a little thin since I spend the winter in Florida. I really like dressing it up with jewelry and I like that I can wear it with my skinny jeans. Thanks for a great video!
🧐Sloppy? Hmm...I humbly suggest you tread careful about hard & fast style judgements. The reality is that NOT all half tucks are inherently inferior. 😖I feel absolutely absurd in boho chic for example, but I've seen contemporaries that can beautifully rock this aesthetic😁. I may lean minimal * feminine * classic, but it would be wrong calling boho chic passe. It's simply a matter of different strokes for different folks. Besides, are you referring to a French tuck (partial front tuck) or an artful Fashion tuck (partial front flap tuck)? 🤔Think successful execution wholly depends on the person. A maverick of a woman〰️bursting with joie di vivre〰️can do either half tuck w/💯% panache. The wearer sells it. She says take me or leave me. She couldn't be bothered with what others think. She's not seeking anyone's approval. She's an original. 😉If any style hack looks or feels like it's wearing you (rather than the opposite), maybe you should skip it. Or, try it with another garment. It could be the wrong fabric, cut, color, texture, or proportions to work out. Practice &/or experiment until it feels right. 🤣Sometimes I look & feel awkward or self-conscious in a full tuck.⏳️With exaggerated proportions, I frequently need to disguise the fact a belt (or binder clip) is often ➡️cinching in⬅️ excess fabric around my waistband too. 🛒Off the rack garments, esp. 👖bottoms🩳, have always been tricky for my extreme shape. Be kind to the ladies 🚺 who haven't fully carried it off. At least they're making an effort. Style is a journey. It's simply a smoother path for some ppl, while others struggle a bit. Lastly, anyone can boost their style confidence with effort. Saw a video where some influencer suggested looking in a mirror & repeating: "I'm a sexy beast" 😎 until you mean it with authority. 😔Sadly, many individuals are weary & been 🗣 beaten 👊 down in life. Repetition of a bold affirmation can ultimately build up your flagging self-esteem, personal power, & will eventually reflect positively in your sartorial choices. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
Agree ! The half tuck or front tuck looks as if a person was in a hurry or couldn't make up her mind what to do ! 😀 Both are not a finished / polished look .
I enjoy a crisp Lands End oxford shirt to elevate jeans. Their no iron shirts are great. I also like a blousey, dressy style in a pale pastel or white. I am still trying to find the perfect style and fit jeans.
Great tips, going to wear my shirt tomorrow and definitely not half tucking find that way to sloppy. Prefer it fully tucked especially as wearing boot cut jeans.
Love a crisp white shirt, especially a longer one with leggings, but hate the way they look after the seat belt has done its damage (even the expensive ones)! My favorite look here is the white shirt with the camel wide pants.
I've looked everywhere, and can't find instructions on how to wear Roll-tab shirts! Mainly, how to use the button for the rolled sleeves. Can you, please, do a video about this?
Off-topic, but I love the earrings that you are wearing in this video. I tend to favor silver jewelry, and the earrings are classy with a little bohemian flair. They suit you. Thanks as always for the well thought out tips, Kay.
I second that! I get tired of people calling them button-downs, very few actually are, I’ve only seen one women’s button-down for sale in the last 20 years. I call most “button-ups” button-front, but actually just buttoned shirt is fine.🙂
I have had a white button down shirt in my closet for 2 years now, and I'm not sure I've worn it yet! Probably because white seems so plain (I'm a color lover!). However after viewing your video I see how I can enhance the white and not make it feel so plain. Thanks!!
Good morning Kay, great to have u. Being overweight, I avoid whites, but the tips and suggestions you gave, I guess, I can get me a high quality cotton shirt. Thank you, for all that u do. 🥰🙏👍👏🐿🌻🍂🍎🍏✝️
I have several white button down shirts from my work wardrobe. I would recommend off-white or ivory for those who look better in a warm tone than stark white. I look okay in white but much better in ivory. Those have been harder to find & that fit properly.
Thank you love your channel and have learned so much and started to appreciate my closet again. I don’t own a white button up shirt yet but definitely on my have to get one list I look forward to your weekly videos
I love your videos, but I am a short waisted large busted woman! I rarely wear button blouses or shirts because they are ALWAYS way too big on my shoulders if they button across my chest. Thanks again for your wonderful videos!
I recently came across this button down shirt from Spanx. It looks like a button down, but it's in fact a pullover, so there is no gaping. And the shirt has nice stretch in it. Use code LTKCONXSPANX for 10% off plus free shipping and free returns: bit.ly/3g6ftzh
I have a number of button shirts including white, pink, blue stripe and more but find I don’t wear them as often as my T-shirts and sweaters. I just have a harder time outfitting them I think so I appreciate this type of video. However I can’t wear the jeans usually to the places I’m going.
Hi Kay. I've seen you wear the green utility jacket with so many great outfits. Today after seeing you show it with the white shirt, I finally decided to buy it from Nordstrom via your link. Looking forward to moving my wardrobe in a slightly different direction...thanks!
I have a classic white shirt from Talbots from a couple of years ago, but have thought about the oversized shirt. The one from Gap you listed says recommended size small. Do you have this one? I am so pleased to see the white shirt is trending again. Love this look. What Frank and Eileen shirt were you suggesting?
My Frank and Eileen shirt is the Joedy: bit.ly/3SSeKzV I tried the Talbots oversized one and found it not to be oversized, but simply long. I returned it. I don't have the Gap shirt, but I've worn one from there before. If the website recommends you size down I probably would. It's a good shirt.
I've hesitated to get a white button down shirt for years because where I come from that with pressed jeans and boots is the formal dress for cowboys. Ha ha, but I guess I'll give it a try and see if I can get over that stereotype. 😊
I have never been able to wear a shirt. I always worry about the buttons popping open or stretched across a big bust. I’ve tried but the shirt always stays in the closet.
Here's a link. Be sure to always check below in the Description Box because I always include links to what I'm wearing there and I don't always see every comment here. bit.ly/3TcRHQM
You could look for high rise pants or jeans that suck your belly in and then tuck your shirt just slightly, maybe no all the way around. Just play around with it. You may not like the effect at all, but it's worth a shot!
I love the idea and look of a button up shirt, but avoid them because I can’t find one that fits right. I’m very large busted, but have narrow shoulders, so to fit my bust means the shoulder seams are way out of place. I looked into tailoring, but it costs more than the shirt costs and one tailor told me it wouldn’t look right, anyway, because of the amount that needs to be adjusted. Button up shirts are just not part of my wardrobe.
As a tall woman I’m happy to recommend Land’s End for a classic white shirt.
Great video. Thank you.
I also love a good white shirt which I wear opened up at the neck with a string of pearls. Such a versatile top. Last wore it with a feminine jeans jacket!
I like it how you fully tucked it in. Now you are a stylish queen.

Hi Miss Kay! My tip for wearing my button down white shirt is to wear a bold lip. I think it softens the look.
I m from India but I love to wear white shirt .. I really appreciate your style sense .. I just love this type of cool modern elegant looks which defines our senior persona.. thanks for this beautiful video..
Beautiful! Thanks so much for watching and saying hello! 💕
I love shirts, especially white ones. I have a few white shirts, but I almost always choose my no-iron linen one. I would wear shirts more except for having to do so much ironing, I tend to wear knit tops like t-shirts at home instead.
No iron & linen in the same sentence?!?😱
I love wearing white button up shirt with fitted maxi skirt and tie the shirt in the front. Usually with tennis shoes but also skin tone Sandles or black ankle boots
I'm glad you mentioned button placement. I always have to use a safety pin underneath, between buttons on my shirts!
Chicos has the best wearable white shirts.
I think you hit all the major points on a white shirt. I personally like them. When I don’t know what to wear, I often go to my white shirt. Thank you!
I think you notified me as a winner! Was told to go here. Not sure if this is the right spot!
I agree, a turned up collar is a great look. I always feel more fashionable with a neatly popped collar.
I bought a white button up from Talbots this year. I’ve always been a fan of tailored button up shirts. However the Talbots shirt I bought is oversized. I have been enjoying it.

I love white tops! Tshirts, shirts, I love white!
My opinion.
Certainly. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you for explaining why we could consider different material and style of of our white button up shirt :)
You bet! Thanks so much for watching!
The fabric and sleeve width has been one reason I have steered clear of the white button down in the past. I have two in the closet now, neither have that "just right" feeling to them. Thank you for the suggestions and links.
I have a light cream silk button-up shirt. Wear it ALL the time, for years and years now! 👏👍🙋♀️🥰
That is awesome!
Thanks for all of the tips! You are an excellent teacher!
I didn’t have any white button up shirts in my closet last year. This year I think I have three. I just kept buying them. And I ordered a white and blue striped one. It hasn’t arrived yet. I love button up when the weather gets cooler, like it is right now. I just hope it stays this way.

I love the front tuck, I don't think the half tuck is for me in my eye it looks sloppy but I'm more of a casual Classie look woman
Love this. I have three white shirts. Thanks for the video.
A white button-up (and/or button-down) shirt is indeed a classic staple, as your many styling ideas have shown. Your comments regarding the quality of the fabric are spot on as well. I agree! I always check out the mens section for basic button downs or even tee shirts. Much better quality, and lower priced.
Great idea!

Just got my white button up shirt today!!! Great video thanks
I love a flipped collar, not old at all!
I've been wearing a hand me down shirt from my husband! It's great over leggings! And works perfectly as a swim suit cover up!
I like the look of white button up shirts, but I haven't found one yet in a material that I like. White shirt,Skinny jeans 👖 and matching short denim jacket 😍
I like a two-pocket style. I’m busty and I think they minimize that, rather than emphasize it.
Love a nice white sahirt with some hoops earrings and a bold lip! However the half tuck is a trend I hope goes away! Just looks sloppy.
Me too!

I totally agree, just not put together!
Agree ! The half tuck or front tuck looks as if a person was in a hurry or couldn't make up her mind what to do ! 😀 Both are not a finished / polished look .
I don’t love the half tuck. I usually tie it at the waist if it’s long and needs a waist.
I enjoy a crisp Lands End oxford shirt to elevate jeans. Their no iron shirts are great. I also like a blousey, dressy style in a pale pastel or white. I am still trying to find the perfect style and fit jeans.
I love a white button-up! So chic-Carolina Herrera can’t be wrong🤩
Absolutely! Thanks so much for sharing.
Just found an ivory colored shirt. Much better than white or blue with my warm toned skin and hair.
Great tips, going to wear my shirt tomorrow and definitely not half tucking find that way to sloppy. Prefer it fully tucked especially as wearing boot cut jeans.

I usually wear a white linen button up shirt, but now that it's fall, I guess I need to get a cotton or poplin one. Thanks for another great video.
Yes, I love my linen for summer but I put it away afterwards. Thanks so much for sharing. 🥰

White shirt (collar up a little in the back) under a khaki jacket = modern classic😏😄👍
I cannot find the alli shoes you mentioned as your favorite. They look beautiful and I need a good shoe. Thanks, learn so much from your channel.
Thankyou for saying button up Kay!
I second that! I get tired of people calling them button-downs, very few actually are, I’ve only seen one women’s button-down for sale in the last 20 years. I call most “button-ups” button-front, but actually just buttoned shirt is fine.🙂
Perfect timing, just bought a white button up shirt!
Thanks for getting me excited to wear my button up shirt!
I have had a white button down shirt in my closet for 2 years now, and I'm not sure I've worn it yet! Probably because white seems so plain (I'm a color lover!). However after viewing your video I see how I can enhance the white and not make it feel so plain. Thanks!!
Love white shirt .It look classy ,look fresh and cool.enjoy watching.thankyou.
Thank you so much 😊
Good morning Kay, great to have u.
I've been on the hunt for a cream or off white, button up shirt. Haven't found one yet.
I found some used ones on ThredUp but had to send them back as they were tight across the chest.
I'm going to try the white button up shirt. It's been a long while.
Way to go! Thanks so much for watching. 💕
I think the half tuck looks ridiculous! I just can’t do that! 😂
Thank you so much for the vid...Stay bless💪👍
Thanks, Kay!
Loving those Johnny collars ❤
Great! Me, too. 😉
Love the tucks they'll be staying x
This really helped me out. Thanks Kaye!!
Wonderful! Thank you.
Thank you love your channel and have learned so much and started to appreciate my closet again. I don’t own a white button up shirt yet but definitely on my have to get one list
I look forward to your weekly videos
You are so welcome!
😊I really need a recommendation for a belt
Loved this video thanks
I have a number of button shirts including white, pink, blue stripe and more but find I don’t wear them as often as my T-shirts and sweaters. I just have a harder time outfitting them I think so I appreciate this type of video. However I can’t wear the jeans usually to the places I’m going.
Hi Kay. I've seen you wear the green utility jacket with so many great outfits. Today after seeing you show it with the white shirt, I finally decided to buy it from Nordstrom via your link. Looking forward to moving my wardrobe in a slightly different direction...thanks!
Oh thank you!
Thank you for sharing!
I have always loved a white shirt. The Frand and E is very oversized which I love. Did you order your usual medium? Glad you are feeling better
Yes I did. Thank you.
I wear a white button shirt, have for years.
Did you order the Superfine or Superluxe? Thanks
My Joedy is this one: bit.ly/3SSeKzV
Thanks Kay.
You could also wear a vest.
I've hesitated to get a white button down shirt for years because where I come from that with pressed jeans and boots is the formal dress for cowboys. Ha ha, but I guess I'll give it a try and see if I can get over that stereotype. 😊
Yes! I loved all the super chic examples I showed at the beginning. Not a cowboy in the bunch!😂🤣
I looked for the link for the long beige/camel cardigan but don’t see it. Can you tell me what it is?
I have this one: shopstyle.it/l/bMXd2 and this one: bit.ly/3S7gVzD
I have never been able to wear a shirt. I always worry about the buttons popping open or stretched across a big bust. I’ve tried but the shirt always stays in the closet.
Thank you for calling a button up shirt it’s proper name. Pet peeve of mine is people saying button down. Great video!❤
Hahaha! Me, too. 😉
I love your black and grey top….cashmere? Where can I find one similar? Thank you 😃
Here's a link. Be sure to always check below in the Description Box because I always include links to what I'm wearing there and I don't always see every comment here. bit.ly/3TcRHQM
A lot of great information!
Glad it was helpful!
Like the white shirt, I pick up some wrinkles during the day, fall, and just hang there😂
I would love to wear my shirt tucked in, but I have a lower belly. How would I go about?
You could look for high rise pants or jeans that suck your belly in and then tuck your shirt just slightly, maybe no all the way around. Just play around with it. You may not like the effect at all, but it's worth a shot!
Always useful information….
I just found this one today. It’s actually a pullover but looks like a button up. Worth a try! rstyle.me/cz-n/gy98tuchvkf
"When you wear it tucked out" 🤭🤭🤭 I think you meant to say untucked.
Yes. I did. Words don’t always come out just right when you’re in front of a camera. 😉
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms I don't even need a camera to make my words come out wrong. Have a great weekend!
