    So, I wanted to thank you, Alyssa! In January I found your channel as I was starting a journey to get healthier and more stylish. Always considered myself cute, but at 55, and the head of a business, I needed to pay a bit more attention, which is something I never really did with fashion. I watched your videos as I was on the treadmill -- first 2x a week, then 3, 4, 5, now up to 6 days a week. It really helped the time pass so pleasantly! And every month, I went through my closet, using your tips -- eliminating items, adding a few (mostly thrifted), changing up my game. Now 45 pounds down and with a closet full of clothes I love, with endless combinations I learned from you, it's a whole new world for me and fashion. And you gave me some joy during COVID! Merci beaucoup! Wishing you and yours all the best.

    At 65 I’ve become very interested in style. Better late than never. I find your videos to be interesting and informative. In this video you have completely changed personalities with the four ways of styling that shirt. I could picture you in specific venues in each look. I’ve never seen a shirt closed on the diagonal. Very pretty.

      I just turned 60 and I'm also a fan. I'm not ready to dress like a granny, but I don't want to dress like my 19 year old nieces so I look for styling choices that "meet in the middle." I have five thrifted white button downs that are my wardrobe 'go-'tos.' Great styling ideas, Alyssa.

    As someone with heavy chest my biggest concern is, the buttons always always gape no matter what size I get. I always get concealed buttons but they still gape.
    Do you have any suggestions regarding this?

    • @susie9893
      @susie9893 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My sister has this problem (and myself to lesser extent). Buy oversized and tailor lower part(buy men's shirt even - it may not even be your boobs that's the problem - maybe not enuf room in the back or shoulders too). If really conscious use double sided tape (I also used to sew the front seem shut but now don't give a damn, whereas I never see my sister in a button down anymore)

    • @shreyamathur8383
      @shreyamathur8383 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@susie9893 thank you! I can relate to your sister, everyone everywhere keeps recommending button down as this staple piece. I have tried buying two sizes larger, and when that too gaped it was really disheartening. Sigh.

    • @susie9893
      @susie9893 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shreyamathur8383 I hear ya but sometimes the cut doesn't allow much arm movement (and thereby causing gaping) no matter the size.
      That's my only suggestion - to look at what happens when you try the chicken shrug (lift elbows out) - if that causes gaping then it's not allowing enough arm/shoulder movement. (Even guys with good pecs can have this problem!)
      Have you considered shopping for button downs thru companies that specialise in active wear? (some professionals, like physios, need to be able to move and also travel professionals)

I noticed u paused a bit longer for each outlook for us to see and digest (after all, it’s a slow lazy Sunday), also in look 2, u turned and let us see how u tucked your shirt in the back, so we can try the same. • @AlyssaBeltempo
      @AlyssaBeltempo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      hmm great question - it could be the shirt and the material and how long it is ... i find when the hem is really long there is too much volume to work with. There is also a way to put the hems of each side through the button holes which makes it sleeker - check out Jessica Wang on IG and tiktok she has the BEST shirt and styling hacks which has little tricks! inlcuding that one!

    Yes, keep going with this series! You mentioned that your shirt is a Medium. Do you mind if I ask what your regular clothing size would be? Through following your channel I have already purchased two POMP short sleeve linen shirts (wayward fit XS), and love them! I had actually been pondering whether to get the black version of the style you are wearing today, but now waffling as to what size after seeing how the M looks on you.. (I am 5'5", size 6)..Thanks:)

      Hi Bronia! Ooh I'm so glad you are loving your current pomp purchases! great questions - I normally vary between a small and a medium depending on the fit because my chest is a bit bigger vs. the rest of my frame. I am a 36" around the chest and have a Small POMP shirt that also fits beautifully. I would recommend measuring your bust and then deciding which fit you would like - relaxed (smaller) or oversized (medium) ... they've listed the chest measurement of their models which I found helpful too. I hope this helps! Let me know which you go with!

    Great idea! Since cold temperatures are approaching ( for us on the northern hem) I suggest a turtleneck sweater in a neutral colour of your preference. Have a great week Alyssa, greetings from Italy.

    Love this new series! I really appreciate the comments on styling for different body types. How about different ways to style the monochromatic look? Not just all-black or all-white/cream or ways to style all-black to give it different looks. Thanks so much for all of your hard work on our behalf. Your videos are GREAT!

    I love the look of a white button down, but I never seem to reach for one of mine. This gave me some great ideas. I especially like the preppy look because it is relaxed and easy to wear. Never thought about adding a statement necklace, such a great tip! I'd love to see more videos like this. Maybe the series could be called "Styling your Basics" and you could do jeans, black blazers, LBD's and t-shirts. Thanks for this Alyssa!

    just rewatched this today and am reinspired. going on a trip to LA this weekend and discovered a shirt my hubby does not wear but that will go perfectly with my color palate i chose to use for the trip. packing light is essential and the button down shirt will add so many options for me.

    This was the most fantastic TH-cam video I've seen on fashion staple pieces. I feel like I can wear almost everything you showed for my body type. Being an athletic body and super tall with strange kind of hips It's really hard to fit my body type but these were inspiring ideas. ❤

    What a wonderful video, thank you! I have a hard time figuring out how to wear a white button down, strange as that may seem, so this gives a lot of excellent options! I really like that you mention how to style for different body types, too--that's super helpful to me. I look forward to the rest of this "essentials" series so yes, please, to more of that! I'm sure most folks down below have great ideas. I'm thinking...blazers, riding/knee hi boots, ankle boots, tee shirts....? Thanks!

    LOVE this new series idea! Especially because I am 4'10', and I feel like most clothing trends don't work on me. I just ordered a sweater dress that will fall to mid-thigh, or possibly just-above-the-knee on me. Could you do a video on different ways to style sweater dresses? (Okay, you caught me---the one I got is technically not a sweater dress.....it's a sweater that is long enough for someone my height to wear as a dress!)
    Finally, just want to say, it seems like so many fashion TH-camrs are really superficial, full of themselves, and have really annoying mannerisms. Thank you, thank you for being so warm-hearted, modest, and genuine.

    Loved that video!
    The idea is great. And it's even better that you added examples with people with different bodytypes than yours to illustrate what you say.
    I loved that you said that there is no rule on what we should wear and how.
    I loved all the tips on how how to wear the item and how it will affect proportions (so anyone can choose to use it and play with proportions as they want and not "as they should").
    I also loved your exemples at the end.
    As I mentioned below someone else's comment, an episode on sweater (especially thick ones) would be great. But there are a lot of other good suggestions.
    You channel is very inspiring, positive and informative. Thank you.
    :)

    Great video, Alyssa! I love how you showed different sized bodies in the photos. I use all of the methods you described and I sometimes put a sleeveless knitted top or a dark printed t shirt over a white shirt to layer up when I’m wearing a fitted coat or jacket and want to stay warm and in the summer a vest underneath. A white button down is so versatile. It’s a must in any wardrobe.
