So, I wanted to thank you, Alyssa! In January I found your channel as I was starting a journey to get healthier and more stylish. Always considered myself cute, but at 55, and the head of a business, I needed to pay a bit more attention, which is something I never really did with fashion. I watched your videos as I was on the treadmill -- first 2x a week, then 3, 4, 5, now up to 6 days a week. It really helped the time pass so pleasantly! And every month, I went through my closet, using your tips -- eliminating items, adding a few (mostly thrifted), changing up my game. Now 45 pounds down and with a closet full of clothes I love, with endless combinations I learned from you, it's a whole new world for me and fashion. And you gave me some joy during COVID! Merci beaucoup! Wishing you and yours all the best.

At 65 I’ve become very interested in style. Better late than never. I find your videos to be interesting and informative. In this video you have completely changed personalities with the four ways of styling that shirt. I could picture you in specific venues in each look. I’ve never seen a shirt closed on the diagonal. Very pretty.

I just turned 60 and I'm also a fan. I'm not ready to dress like a granny, but I don't want to dress like my 19 year old nieces so I look for styling choices that "meet in the middle." I have five thrifted white button downs that are my wardrobe 'go-'tos.' Great styling ideas, Alyssa.

Your enthusiasm is infectious and never fails to keep me focused on slow fashion. I am retired now so don't have a lot of money to spend on clothes anyway, so shopping my closet for my daily casual outfits is such an inspiration. Love your videos. I find that all younger fashion influencers call this shirt a button down. I’m from a different generation, but to me this is a button up shirt and a button down shirt actually has buttons that hold your collar down.

Besides being a great video with that powerful white shirt which u look so sharp in, I really appreciate the fact that u read our comments and paid attention to them. I noticed u paused a bit longer for each outlook for us to see and digest (after all, it’s a slow lazy Sunday), also in look 2, u turned and let us see how u tucked your shirt in the back, so we can try the same. That was very kind and thoughtful of u.

Great video, Alyssa! I love how you showed different sized bodies in the photos. I use all of the methods you described and I sometimes put a sleeveless knitted top or a dark printed t shirt over a white shirt to layer up when I’m wearing a fitted coat or jacket and want to stay warm and in the summer a vest underneath. A white button down is so versatile. It’s a must in any wardrobe.

I initially resisted the price of this shirt, but then found myself buying and re-buying various white shirts in the never ending quest to get the right one. I bit the bullet, and motivated by the generous discount code for this shirt, bought one myself. It just arrived and now I get it! hmm great question - it could be the shirt and the material and how long it is ... i find when the hem is really long there is too much volume to work with. There is also a way to put the hems of each side through the button holes which makes it sleeker - check out Jessica Wang on IG and tiktok she has the BEST shirt and styling hacks which has little tricks! inlcuding that one!

I think that's why it's taken me so long to warm up to the Oxford shirt - cos it WAS part of my school uniform. But I'm slowly coming around (it's only taken almost 30yrs)

I have a somewhat split personality style…both preppy/classic and fairly boho. My closet and dresser drawers are a sight. I have almost 3 dozen white shirts, short sleeve tees and long sleeve tees…..then a lot of graphic/band tees. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Love all the ideas here Alyssa. I have a copper pleated skirt like the one shown and am going to look for a white linen shirt somewhere in my packed wardrobe and wear it with the tie as you have done. Looking forward to watching more of your ideas. I will recommend your videos to the members of an Elegant Over 50s style group which I run.

What a wonderful video, thank you! I have a hard time figuring out how to wear a white button down, strange as that may seem, so this gives a lot of excellent options! I really like that you mention how to style for different body types, too--that's super helpful to me. I look forward to the rest of this "essentials" series so yes, please, to more of that! I'm sure most folks down below have great ideas. I'm thinking...blazers, riding/knee hi boots, ankle boots, tee shirts....? Thanks!

Love getting into the details......this was great❣ Using classic timeless pieces is such a good investment but we each wear it best in different ways and you showed it. I would love for you to do boots and how they work on the leg and how they work or not with different pieces of clothing. I also would like to see how belts effect body shape.

This series is much needed and appreciated. Would love to see how to style trousers or dress pants for different body types, because that's one thing I find extremely difficult to get right as i have a short torso, and a curvy figure overall.

  • @rosewilliams6328

LOVE this new series idea! Especially because I am 4'10', and I feel like most clothing trends don't work on me. I just ordered a sweater dress that will fall to mid-thigh, or possibly just-above-the-knee on me. Could you do a video on different ways to style sweater dresses? (Okay, you caught me---the one I got is technically not a sweater dress.....it's a sweater that is long enough for someone my height to wear as a dress!)
Finally, just want to say, it seems like so many fashion TH-camrs are really superficial, full of themselves, and have really annoying mannerisms. Thank you, thank you for being so warm-hearted, modest, and genuine.

I ordered the shirt immediately. Yes, please do this type of video - it was really helpful. I especially appreciated the tip not to roll sleeves up too high if you have a larger bust. Teach us how to hold the wrap in place with double sided fashion tape! Yay!

This was the most fantastic TH-cam video I've seen on fashion staple pieces. I feel like I can wear almost everything you showed for my body type. Being an athletic body and super tall with strange kind of hips It's really hard to fit my body type but these were inspiring ideas. ❤
