I just turned 60 and I'm also a fan. I'm not ready to dress like a granny, but I don't want to dress like my 19 year old nieces so I look for styling choices that "meet in the middle." I have five thrifted white button downs that are my wardrobe 'go-'tos.' Great styling ideas, Alyssa.

Always considered myself cute, but at 55, and the head of a business, I needed to pay a bit more attention, which is something I never really did with fashion. I watched your videos as I was on the treadmill -- first 2x a week, then 3, 4, 5, now up to 6 days a week. It really helped the time pass so pleasantly! And every month, I went through my closet, using your tips -- eliminating items, adding a few (mostly thrifted), changing up my game. Now 45 pounds down and with a closet full of clothes I love, with endless combinations I learned from you, it's a whole new world for me and fashion. And you gave me some joy during COVID! Love your videos. I find that all younger fashion influencers call this shirt a button down. I’m from a different generation, but to me this is a button up shirt and a button down shirt actually has buttons that hold your collar down.

I just scored not one, but 2! white button down shirts at the thrift store. They were both brand new! One is more dressing with a double collar from Coldwater Creek that was only $5! The other was a classic white button-down from Walmart but very well made. Got both shirts for $8. That made me so happy.

Good primer video. I noticed you also shot clips where the button down is tucked in but one side over the other, but never mentioned this styling hack! There's also wearing it back to front buttoned all the way, buttoned up half way but with the neck stretched out to expose the shoulders (like a boat neck), and a twist to the last one that was quite popular in Korea and China last year/the year before is to have the shoulders exposed but also pulled back so the back of the neck and top part of the back is exposed too (looks a bit more sexy?).
That large, shiny, gold chain necklace looks like one I used to wear in the '90s. It was by Anne Klein and I loved it. Donated it to Goodwill. Everything comes back in style but you need a lot of storage space!

My first place for help on this is talking myself into getting a white shirt. I’m big time pasty (and thin) so I’ve always just avoided white for the fear of looking like I belong in the Fall of the House of Usher. Don’t want to be looking sick.

I ordered the shirt immediately. Yes, please do this type of video - it was really helpful. I especially appreciated the tip not to roll sleeves up too high if you have a larger bust. Teach us how to hold the wrap in place with double sided fashion tape! Yay!
This would be a great series. You can talk about blazers (the styles which work best for different body types), pencil skirts, shorts, trouser styles, cuts of jeans--even scale of accessories which work best for different body types.
just rewatched this today and am reinspired. going on a trip to LA this weekend and discovered a shirt my hubby does not wear but that will go perfectly with my color palate i chose to use for the trip. packing light is essential and the button down shirt will add so many options for me.
I love the look of a white button down, but I never seem to reach for one of mine. This gave me some great ideas. I especially like the preppy look because it is relaxed and easy to wear. Great video, Alyssa! I love how you showed different sized bodies in the photos. I use all of the methods you described and I sometimes put a sleeveless knitted top or a dark printed t shirt over a white shirt to layer up when I’m wearing a fitted coat or jacket and want to stay warm and in the summer a vest underneath. A white button down is so versatile. It’s a must in any wardrobe.

You’re a very detailed person so this is an FYI. A button down shirt has the little buttons on the collar points as well as down the front. The button up shirt has no buttons on the collar points, just the buttons up the front.
I would a lesson on how exactly to make the ties long tails to knot and making the smaller “rabbit ears. Also, how exactly do you do the side look ( layering?).

When the tummy is flat everything look s so nice. I have found that you can’t hide the tummy a 100% it will always show. One has to accept that.

Good one on white shirts. i wear the preppy one at least once a week I knid of got into it beauase I noticed it in all the french street fashion videos and thought it looked put together.

You’re a very detailed person so this is an FYI. A button down shirt has the little buttons on the collar points as well as down the front. The button up shirt has no buttons on the collar points, just the buttons up the front.
I would a lesson on how exactly to make the ties long tails to knot and making the smaller “rabbit ears. Also, how exactly do you do the side look ( layering?).
