The Wilson sisters father was my social studies teacher in junior high school. He used to play their music during class on a reel to reel tape machine. Proud father. Fortunate enough to see them play live in Seattle in the 70s
Heart's best years were the 70's. So many classics. "Crazy on You", "Magic Man", "Heartless", "Straight On", "Dog & Butterfly". My favorite is "Mistral Wind". I like tuning in and seeing what's next with your channel - good job guys!
That driving, “galloping “ guitar throughout the song was “borrowed” from Nazareth’s version of “This flight tonight “. Another great song you should give a listen to. ❤ Love your channel guys.
This great song was written by lead vocalist Ann Wilson, lead guitarist & co-founder Roger Fisher, drummer Mike Derosier and acoustic guitarist Nancy Wilson.
When I bought the Album shortly after it was released my bro and I loved this song without knowing the story behind it. We just loved how it rocked out and Ann's vocals. If you watch the live versions you will appreciate the drummer more. Guitars were always first rate with the band. I saw Heart in concert 6 or 7 times and they were even better in concert than on their records. Led Zeppelin was a huge influence of Heart.
Anne Wilson, the older sister, is on lead vocals... Nancy Wilson, the blonde, is on rhythm/ acoustic guitar + backing vocals... This was the original Heart line-up of: Roger Fisher (lead guitar), Steve Fossen (bass), Mike DeRosier (drums) and Howard Leese (lead guitar/Keyboards/ piano) ... Only Howard Leese was in Heart until the 90's when the band went on hiatus. Anne and Nancy Wilson are the only original members of Heart today... everyone else is a session player.
I saw them live in Toronto in the early 90s and they kicked ass. Ann's vocals are just insane in a great way 🙌 Magic Man from them is fire 🔥 Great reaction and Peace out guys 🙏✌️☮️
Heart did not 'sample' the riff, they heard the riff on Nazareth's record and made it their own (slightly different), because if you listen to both records, Heart's is better.
Hard rock formed in the mid-to-late 1960's. Heart released their first album back in 1975, and hard rock was already established by then. Ann (brunette) & Nancy (blonde) were pioneers in the sense of female rockers as the focal point of the band. The 1960's had many female rock artists like Janis Joplin & Grace Slick that led the way for many female rockers of the 1970's, 1980's and through today.
Those "rumors" what the press asked lit a burning fire under these women! They exploded on stage! HEART rocks hard "Live" like on "The Midnight Special!" Good find guys!!
You guys have done some Black Sabbath tunes, and that's really early 70's. You guys did an old Judas Priest rocker from '74. Hard rock was definitely around late 60's/ early 70s.
I remember when this came out there were rumors planted by some barracuda that the two sisters were into each other. The gallop riff always reminds me of Zep's 'Achilles Last Stand'.
Please check out Crazy on You, Magic Man, and Straight On. Also Heart did a side project in the early 90's called the Lovemongers. Please check out them singing with Chris Cornell Wild Horses. Ann and Nancy were very good friends with Chris and this is right when Soundgarden was taking off, Chris's voice was amazing.
IN MY OPION THE BEST CLASSIC ROCK FEMALE VOCALIST OF ALL TIME, I PUT HER UP THEIR IN MY TOP 10 WITH THE BIG BOYS, (ANN WILSON)" DREAM BOAT ANNIE " IS A PHINAMMINEL ALBUM, CHECK IT OUT GUY'S FOR SOME DEEP CUTS, THIS IS A CLASSIC VINYL 💽🎤🎸🥁🔊🎧🎶🎵🎼
Barracuda got lots of airplay. The song "Little Queen" is another real good one on the album. Make sure you guys check out them playing "Stairway To Heaven" in front of Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center Honors. Also, they played at my high school in the cafeteria when I was a kid. Just before Dreamboat Annie got released.
The Nazareth stuff aside, Barracuda was perhaps more influenced by Led Zeppelin's Achilles Last Stand", one of the all-time hard rock bangers that has a galloping rhythm similar to what you hear on Barracuda.
saw them live a couple times.one show jason bonhams led zep experience was warm up band.he joined them for a half hour encore set of led zeppelin songs.was great.
The one from Nazareth I'm very familiar with, definitely very similar but not even close as good as the heart riff. Lot of groups use that similar riff the Galloping Rhythm like Iron Maiden Tunes
Part of the riff sounds similar, but it is in a different key I believe. The overall melody of Barracuda and This flight tonight are not even close to each other. This riff was around before Nazareth. Heart was inspired part of the riff, but Barracuda is really an organic piece of music. There was no copyright infringement and Heart never paid royalties to Nazareth or anyone else. They did not sample Nazareth.
yeah, Olli got it, they swiped the Nazareth riff. In fairness, Barracuda's a hotter song than This Flight Tonight but Flight is a great song too. I think it was from a great album Loud n Proud, rock n roll attitude from Nazareth. Barracuda's got some vicious lyrics, rightfully so.
Heart might have borrowed the galloping guitar riff from Nazareth however that type of riff goes way back long before Nazareth existed. I'm not sure of the first time it was used but it was integral to the Bonanza TV show theme which was in 1961. Everything has been done before. Musicians borrow from others all the time. Led Zeppelin used this riff in Immigrant song in 1970. Heart was influenced by Led Zeppelin so this song could have been influenced by them as well. Zeppelin was influenced by many artist before them including Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters. The drum intro from Rock and Roll was borrowed from Little Richard's song Keep a Knockin in 1957. Other drummers used this drum intro as well in the 50s. It's all been done before.
No, they didn't "sample", the rift was played. Sampling wasn't around back then like it is today (it was done with magnetic tape loops, not digital). Sampling music is still mostly in the realm of rap music.
While the first few bars are identical to Nazareth’s “This Flight Tonight”, the songs are definitely different from that point on. “The ‘chugging’ rhythm technique used in “Barracuda” and in Nazareth’s “This Flight Tonight” is more or less a convention of heavy rock guitar playing. It's worth noting that neither riff is drastically far off from Led Zeppelin’s “Communications Breakdown” or Black Sabbath’s “Children of the Grave,” each of which predate the Nazareth version of "This Flight Tonight." Nancy Wilson in an interview said it’s not uncommon for musicians to get inspiration from other sources, including other music. The exception to other examples is that Heart always owned up to using the same opening riff.
Give a listen to Chris Rea, "Road to Hell" great song, by a great singer, songwriter who also plays piano and guitar. Please give him a listen to he is really good!!!
Ann & Nancy are very talented. Too bad their 80's material wasn't as good as their early hits. But they could always do covers and put on a good show live.
The video of Heart Barracuda is a must see.
Heart has a special place in my Heart from my home town Seattle. ♥️
The Wilson sisters father was my social studies teacher in junior high school.
He used to play their music during class on a reel to reel tape machine. Proud father.
Fortunate enough to see them play live in Seattle in the 70s
Which school? I attended Tillicum Jr. High, and my bro (a lead guitar player) was a classmate of Anne at Sammammish High. Heady days those were.

I remember playing their album and then putting on Fleetwood Mac. It was the best when the people I was babysitting for had good albums! 😂❤✌️
You need to see Heart - Barracuda, the live video!
Excellent Xmas Gift! Heart is one of the best! Ann Wilson's voice and Nancy's guitar.... Chef's Kiss!! ❤❤❤❤
I like how you guys wait for your comments until after the song…thanks for respecting the music and letting it play 🫡
Great song! Great reaction! Way to go! How about Crazy on You next?
Yaaaas!
The song always feels like an unstoppable train.

In their live concerts, Nancy Wilson is down on the stage wearing out her guitar on this song. They are great live. Been to several concerts.
Ann’s voice. Fire 🔥

When they first came out, I knew they were both beautiful but I was in love with Nancy because she’s a guitarist and so am I.
Crazy on You and Magic Man
This song is fire! Try "Crazy On You" and "Magic Man" from same time period from Heart....also fire.
Heart did not 'sample' the riff, they heard the riff on Nazareth's record and made it their own (slightly different), because if you listen to both records, Heart's is better.
Sing Child ! Hard rock during the disco era 🎉

I love heart one of the best in the world
I saw them do this on their "Little Queen" tour in 1977.
Heart! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Mistral Wind" will blow your mind.
Ann Singing and Nancy on guitar!
Check out Nazareth - This Flight Tonight!!
Love Barracuda, Magic Man, etc, but Crazy on You is amazing. The guitar work!
Those "rumors" what the press asked lit a burning fire under these women! They exploded on stage!
HEART rocks hard "Live" like on "The Midnight Special!"
Good find guys!!
When given the choice always choose 70's
You guys have done some Black Sabbath tunes, and that's really early 70's. You guys did an old Judas Priest rocker from '74. Hard rock was definitely around late 60's/ early 70s.
The live version is fun too🎶
Had this album on 8 track full volume in my car
Ahhh was hoping you were doing the video love that.great reaction anyway.👍🏻
Corey was feelin’ this one lol! It’s in my top 10 of all time so yep. It’s awesome
They were one of the bands at my first concert; Mar 1978...I was 15yrs9mos.
They Rock❤ best female vocals

Ooohh. Barracuda. Doug, diggy Doug, diggy Doug, diggy Doug, diggy Doug, diggy Doug, diggy Doug, diggy Doug uh. Woooow.
Ann is the singer, Nancy is the guitar, backup vocalist
Nancy is Rhythm and acoustic, not the Lead.
This song was written because someone in the industry tried to label them as lesbians and they went ballistic over it and that is why it is so hard.
THAT'D make me mad, too!!!!
Not only that…but also in an incest relationship with each other!
this needs to be live
Damn. So good 👍

Classic.🩷⚘️🥰

Too bad you dont have the video of them performing...that is so much a part of it...Annie w/the voice and Nancy w/the guitar....

Nancy plays guitar, but Ann says Nancy sings better than her. Love Heart!!
yeah, Olli got it, they swiped the Nazareth riff. In fairness, Barracuda's a hotter song than This Flight Tonight but Flight is a great song too. I think it was from a great album Loud n Proud, rock n roll attitude from Nazareth. Barracuda's got some vicious lyrics, rightfully so.
Heart❤ kicks ass!! This is my favorite by them😅 You should check out Nazareth (Hair of the dog) Love you guys❤
Should have done the live version😉
watch the official video for this song!

It was Ann singing.
heart was way before nazarith
Great video guys. Hoping you would check out Curtis Mayfield-pusherman

Nazareth covered quite a few songs, and made every one better
Nice job gentlemen, appreciate the background check.
Now you MUST do the Nazareth song and compare. You'll see why one band was a 2 hit wonder and the other was freaking Heart
I can tell that Corey is enjoying the music, but the other 2 guys don’t show much if any reaction
Ha! Led Zeppelin was the king of sampling other songs!
That Nazareth song is different than the Heart riff, Nazareth is a great band but personally its not the same
The Nazareth song is totally different...
You guys are right, Kid Rock sucks and doesn't belong on any all-time hard rock song list.
Definitely not sampling. 😂
Olliwoo obviously doesn't like rock. 😅
The ONLY similarity was the galloping bass guitar. Lots and lots and lots of bands do that. Check out Iron Maiden. Nazareth sucks. Heart are legends
Dude with the hoodie always looks like he is in severe pain ?
