I think it sounded like someone beat a shitty children's keyboard until it broke, recorded the poor machine's wails of agony, played it back on iPhone speakers, recorded it, and played it on iPhone speakers several more times.
It's either a good attempt at using the floppy drive as a playback device, a half-arsed PC speaker music routine, a piss-poor Adlib system that can't load the patches correctly, or a HORRIBLY corrupted MOD file.

Probably a game released prior to the PCjr/Tandy 1000. PC games would have only had the speaker for sound at that point.
You haven't heard the PC speaker music of Sim City, have you? It was similar.

I was in my late teens/early 20s when I wrote those rants; they seemed funny at the time, but I cringe a bit now ;-) I tended to keep a text file going with just random crap it in I'd add to late at night or whenever; then just threw it in the game somewhere easy to find, it was like blogging pre-internet ;-) Rich A.

Upon hearing that phrase in the video, I immediately thought "oh that's some nice descriptive probable hyperbole", but then to my surprise it "graced" my ears moments later. And yeah, gotta say that is an entirely and totally accurate description.

I don't know well this is what happens if somebody did own a adlib sound card or SoundBlaster sound card and that is what they get. and that really hurt that pc speaker the one that was inside your computer.
People (I mean Tim Follin) did the same thing with the ZX Spectrum 48K. The concept of torturing a 1-bit beeper isn't hard to understand.

That's nothing. The artist that did all the character designs for the Megaman Legends games (including MML3 R.I.P.)? He's actually posted hentai pics of his characters on his blog and I think also his Pixiv account.
The Jurassic Park one was written by me.. The story behind it is.. Back then we produced 2 versions of the game. One for Amiga 1200 (AGA) and one for Amiga 500 (OCS). These were released a couple of weeks apart. In the time between the AGA version being released and (badly) cracked we were finishing off the OCS version. Hence the message to 2 of the cracking groups (Paradox and Fairlight) telling them what a bad job they made of cracking the game :)

I wasn't aware that video game programmers would add this kind of stuff hidden in one of the files of their codes. But it's very interesting to know the stuff they wanted to talk about.
I'll love to see modern examples of said rants.
Also, #4 has so much brown that It was way too ahead of it's time, considering the console era of 2006-2012.
Probably doesn't count but the first thing that comes to mind would be the message at the end of Homefront: The Revolution before the credits.
Modern examples would be pretty much the same, except with far less interest in whatever the next console is going to be.
Back in the old days, most if not all development teams were really small, just like today's indie teams ,sometimes even smaller. They could all be themselves really, the people responsible for selling the games didn't know much about computers really.
There are even more examples today, given the size of AAA development teams. Programmers leave notes to each other "in the margin" of their code when they're working on it. Since multiple programmers work on multiple versions of the same code, they communicate changes they've made and thoughts they're having through this procedure. According to programmers they have a tendency to post snarky or creative comments to each other. Math problems, riddles, poems and limericks, friendly jabs at their coworkers and all manner of nonsense.
Of course often when the game ships these comments aren't included in the program. They're a separate feature of sorts, so they aren't included when the program is compiled.
Look up TF2's code. The people making it slowly went insane. Poor guys.
I remember when I was working in house at FOX an outsourced programmer rage quitted on one of our Flash games. I was handed it to finish and was cracking up when I got his files and every layer and symbol was labeled with the entire gamut of profane language. Knowing our manager, I sympathized. Also in a similar scenario (not sure if it was disgruntle-ness) but on another Flash game called Dogtown I found an unused asset of a much more cartooney looking dog sporting a happy little dog boner. I believe I took him out before release, but I do recall naming him "Rocket the Wonder Dog" so I could keep track of him. And in AVP: Extinction, we sent FOX several builds where I had copied the carrier alien's head and attached it to his groin...they never commented...we took it out after a good long laugh.

Was messing about just now and opened a game i played as a kid in a hex editor made by UK based Flair software called Trolls and it says "This game was written on a very slow schneider 10mhz 286 with lots of wait states If for some reason on your very fast xxxx 25mh 486 this game seems to be fast or unplayable , do no blame us for it was a penny pinching boss who would not buy us reasonable pc's to work on. signed THE PROGRAMMERS OF FLAIR SOFTWARE"
There's something special about hidden dev messages. One small UK example I recalled from the top of my head is from the Atari ST version of Enterprise, which has wave file of one of the devs saying "Enterprise is RUBBISH" backwards and all echoy. Says a lot when even the devs know they're making a bad game!
I couldn't help but admire Richard Aplin as he's done so many games in his career, I think if he saw this video he might ask u to help with the odd game he might work on in future :) can't wait to see what the us rants and Japanese ones are

Rewatched this episode today: this reminds me of when I worked as a programmer for a local manufacturing company.
The previous coder would put minimal comments in his code, except the odd reference to Deanna Troi's bosom at the top of certain files... So, he must have been a ST:TNG fan then.

I remember back in around 2001-ish we got a message from EA (our then publisher) stating that all code had to be submitted uncompiled to their offices so they could have someone read through every line to ensure that there were no coder rants or offensively named variables. Now, this is the bit I'm forgetting, the reason for this was due to a coder rant (from another studio's game) being discovered which laid into EA, and possibly LEGO too (we were working on titles for LEGO at the time). I can't remember if this rant got into a shipped title, or was discovered prior to release.
The rant in question did get emailed around the studio so someone found it, I seem to remember it being a wall of hate from a coder who was leaving so held nothing back.
That'd be an interesting thing to rediscover.

Hey Larry, I have a bit of a request because of recent events I'm curious.
Quite a few of my favorite games have been "review bombed" last few months and it seems to be a habit that isn't calming down. Its kind of bitter sweet to me because on one hand "Freedom of Speech", on the other "Mob Mentality".
I would love to see what you could find out about other games that have been review bombed, maybe even some games that were reviewed so harshly they were forced to shut down or even games that actually gained popularity because of their original controversy.
I can have a look, sure. But modern Journalism sucks. It's a bunch of douches reviewing with either their ego or their political beliefs ahead of anythng else to make them look edgy.

I was such a fanatic of the SNES version of Ocean's Jurassic Park, that I had mapped out every building marking what ammo was found were, and what not. Sorry for going off topic, but hearing the mention of it brought back memories.
Did the lack of a save or password system really annoy you? I got it with my Christmas money as a kid one year and it really put me off playing it.
@@Larry Looking back now, I have to agree with you on that one, it wasn't like I could just turn down the volume on the tv I used back then to try and get some sleep, the shelves it was on were pretty much as close as they could be to the bed without my not being able to walk between them.
