1:23:00 Chibnall is so dedicated to the ‘girl boss’ character template (and a bare-bones template at that) that he completely forgets historical figures are more complex than a single line summation. I can’t imagine very many versions of the Doctor being super thrilled to hanged out with a totalitarian dictator that uses the death penalty and war to get out of being charged for their crimes but here we are.
One of my favourite Chibnall trademarks is having crazy stuff happen that would have me losing my mind irl, and then all the characters just look at it with deadpan expressions and say some one liner like "eh up is that your boat me old cabbage"
My favorite part was when the Doctor was outlining the plan and included "Latitude to Longitude" with the poles reversing and whatnot. The poles reversing may or may not have catastrophic consequences, but Latitude & Longitude is fully something humans made up, and if they reversed right now, all that would happen is that you'd just need to rewrite some textbooks and reprogram some navigation satellites.
Considering there's apparently a Megamind reference in the episode, maybe the Shrek-ish logo was a deliberate decision? My only other real statement about this episode (as everyone is talking about the abysmal dialogue, weird effects and strange references) is that when we watched it, during The Sea Devils' explanation of their plan with the Earth's magnetic field, my mum said "So they're reversing the polarity". How the bloody hell did the episode not make this joke?!

Chibnal's run is so annoying and baffling. We had David Tennant, he was going to SACRIFICE HIMSELF when the Sontarans were going to blast the Earth to bits! Nobody else, only reason he lived was because of someone the Doctor effected in some way. Thats just one of many examples. It was a huge point for Tennant and the next few Doctors to SAVE everyone you could despite the self inflicted pain and possible death. Chibnall's Doctor is like "Oh you want to die? Alright sure! I don't have responsibility here even though I say I am 'Earth's protector.'. . Just dont hold me to a individual basis! "
She's the Boris Johnson of Doctors - "I accept full responsibility, just don't expect me to actually do anything to fulfill that responsibility. Mistakes were made and I have therefore changed the TARDIS crew"
And most of the time, iirc, Ten _couldn't do anything to stop them_ . He didn't make the choice to let others sacrifice themselves, they chose to do that.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the multiple instances of terrible ADR in the episode lmao, there's an example around 7:29 where Madam Ching says something but her mouth doesn't move, then later they dub over the Doctor mid sentence where it looks like they tried to correct a mispronunciation of Ji-Hun (looks like Jodie said "Ji-Un", this is around 29:39)

Graham as the true Timeless Child would improve everything. Otherwise, I definitely hope we have every old companion shuffle across the screen for a few seconds, boy howdy, implicitly giving their support to the special because, y'know, they showed up, and that means it's good. EDIT: Being beaten by reruns of Antiques Roadshow has been levied against a few episodes in the last few years, at least it seems by people who also put the titles of their Doctor Who videos in big bold letters in the thumbnail so you don't miss it. While embarrassing on its face, I've wondered if maybe there's just some weird floating extra variable behind that.
I loved how the doctor said that the base would blow up in 50 seconds and then spent the next 30-40 seconds deliberating about who should stay behind and get blown up with the base.

Some companions you missed: I think it’s likely to see Sgt Benton and Polly in the centenary, being both on Earth and their actors being alive. I think Capt. Yates is very unlikely as Richard Franklin unfortunately seems to be in too poor of health to contribute to Doctor Who projects. Other Characters like Vicki, Sara Kingdom and Zoe I think are unlikely due to where they were left as characters; being in the ancient past, turned to dust on Kemble and memory erased in the future respectively. Also with those most of those episodes being missing I think that adds to the improbability.

They will not touch the Valeyard story if they can help it. A massive continuity problem due to the man who invented the character falling out with the then showrunner, and the episode that was meant to explain him and his motivations (The Doctor faced with his own mortality and terrified by it) never being filmed. Suspect the Valeyard and Fugitive Doctor will both never be fully explained onscreen.
Wouldn't be surprised if the Master is deliberately hunting down (or helping other monsters hunt them atleast) the doctors former companions to break the doctor before killing her.
it could be cool if the fugitive doctor was actually an avatar for the Great Intelligence having been created when the GI merged with the Doc's timeline and this is revealed in the 60th or the 100 BBC birthday special or that is what the Timeless Child is having been created from the merge between the GI and the Doctor.
When I heard about the Cybermen Timelords I was glad I dropped the series 2 seasons back. Bloody awful. I hate Nu Who Timelords. They were supposed to be Elitist Isolationalists, kinda like the City of London Bankers. Rich aloof bastards, maybe a few throwing the Doctor a bone for old times sake. But that is it. So with a few tweaks I can see them doing the timeless child justice. So that's not so bad. Galifrey absolutely needs to come back though. Given the whole 10 year arc we had just to get it back. To destroy it immediately after the fact is stupid. Timeless child can be built upon but galifrey needs retconning
Ace goes and hangs out with the timelords staying in gallifrey for a while after leaving the doctor for the last time before getting sent back to earth during the time war, she later remeets the doctor a couple of times as 7 and 13 in dark universe and childhood's end

It annoys me when people say "it's just a kids show" like even kids shows have some sort of competence and a message to teach the kids, this era of the show has none of that.
The Sea Devils just felt kind of dull? I thought they were uh. Made of wood at first. The face has a texture that looked like polished wood anyways, at least to me. If the design went full on doll or wood mask- or on the other hand were more expressive- that would’ve been better than just the mouth and eyes slightly moving.
@stubagful that centenary plot would make an excellent master story, but it'd rely on Chris acknowledging that the doctor makes questionable moral choices...
The Librarians actually isn't a reboot of The Librarian; it's a TV spinoff in the same continuity as the films. I actually enjoyed the show. Some former Doctor Who talent worked on it.
I think even arguing that Tegan and Ace are back to progress a conflict for Thasmin is giving Chibnall too much credit. As tacky as that idea, is I think the truth of why they are back is even worse - its just pure fanservice. Here is my prediction for the centenary special: Dan will go back to Liverpool to rekindle things with Di leaving 13/Yaz in the TARDIS. Not a single beat will pass before the Master somehow captures them. (Opening Credits) Tegan and Ace will just be shoehorned in to fight the daleks/cybermen on earth alongside Kate Stewart/Unit. Ace will wear the original jacket and beat a dalek with a baseball bat so Chibnall can scream at the audience THIS IS A REFERENCE (but with no substance behind the reference) Whilst this is happening, the Doctor and Yaz are captured by the Master somewhere off earth. He will then spend a good chunk of the story explaining the is evil plan to her by way of three pages of exposition. Back on earth Dan finds Graham and they have some kind of really forced banter, maybe Graham will do a little throwaway to explain where Ryan is i.e. Tosin would rather die than come back and Dan will reference Thasmin in some way. So the Master is going to highjack all the Doctor's regeneration energy and the Doctor gets saved by Time (the character, the concept of time) who splits her into two. The first Doctor will defeat all the villains at once and the Master but to do this will have to die and regen. I kind of see this Doctor saying goodbye to the other characters. I hope Chibnall isnt arrogant enough to do some kind of reboot regen. I think the other Doctor will somehow through contrivances will be put into the watch with all her memories - so she can know the past. And I think this Doctor will be able to spend forever with Yaz in the watch? I know this sounds mad, bear with me - as it references Yaz's Nan and her husband being in a moment time forever, love is a form of hope, love abides yadda yadda But you can bet if the rumours are true that the last things filmed where Yaz/13 scenes in the TARDIS then the regen, I think its two separate Doctors. If the rumour is true that the regen is outside, then I bet it'll be up that bloody hill from the Woman who fell to earth.
You could bring back Daphne Ashbrook with a different character name, and explain it away that she had to change her identity after she met the Doctor, because government agencies or conspiracy theorists etc. were harassing her. Just have her turn up doing charitable medical work in a remote jungle village or something.
So i'm gonna make the worst prediction i possibly can, and HOPEFULLY even Chibnall won't do something so stupid. I'm doing this so that by comparison the centenary special won't be quite AS bad. So here it is... When Yaz meets Ace she'll find out Ace and The Doctor had a love affair too. And he still left her behind. And now you are picturing Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred making sweet, creepy love, with candles. And the song "you are my rose" from The Room plays in the background. The scene ends with Sylvester walking away as the camera lingers on his bare ass. The sex scene returns a few more times throughout the episode just because. Damn you Stu for giving me such a horrid idea.
Oh please don't. I always enjoyed 7 and Ace as a modern Dr Higgins and Eliza Doolittle. Still say Ace might have worked a bit better if she was allowed to swear, no-one from the time period she was from would have used the slang she did..

No-one ever sees a Dalek and says "What the f*ck's that??", despite that being the reaction of the everyday Londoner to most things out of ordinary, never mind an invasion of small alien tanks.

i don't mind turkey pirates i just mind the cast we have, it's bloated. Not just the guests but the companions who don't have enough personality to warrant investing screen time on. Only the younger male companion with the disability has a story that's worth watching, and you could say a lot about a guy learning to conquer his own adversities while traveling with a Doctor Who has to tackle new adversities given her appearance and the time periods they visit. Jody's performance is okay...ish, just doesn't help her new character to be strong and capable and commanding given the subject matter they want to tackle so instead they make everyone else around her useless to make her seem like she's smart and capable... idk i really just don't see why I should watch Who if the tone and presentation of a space adventure story literally isn't designed in a way where i can enjoy engaging with it cause the MESSAGE isn't aimed at me and the MESSAGE is all they care about now.
My only two realistic hopes for this special 1. Something really painful to watch like the Doctor seeing River and then telling her she’s with Yaz.. 2. The episode not showing anything post regeneration, cut to black as soon as Jodie Whitaker disappears would be ideal. I don’t want the start of the new era to be at the back end of Chibnall era episode
A thing I noticed was the Doctor saying "Impossible" in response to seeing a flying pirate ship with flight-enabling engines strapped to the bottom.
Because this is clearly the most impressive thing the Doctor has ever seen…just like how Yaz is “the most amazing person she has ever met”…

The Sea Devils just felt kind of dull? I thought they were uh. Made of wood at first. The face has a texture that looked like polished wood anyways, at least to me. If the design went full on doll or wood mask- or on the other hand were more expressive- that would’ve been better than just the mouth and eyes slightly moving.
@stubagful that centenary plot would make an excellent master story, but it'd rely on Chris acknowledging that the doctor makes questionable moral choices...

The Librarians actually isn't a reboot of The Librarian; it's a TV spinoff in the same continuity as the films. I actually enjoyed the show. Some former Doctor Who talent worked on it.
I think even arguing that Tegan and Ace are back to progress a conflict for Thasmin is giving Chibnall too much credit. As tacky as that idea, is I think the truth of why they are back is even worse - its just pure fanservice.
Here is my prediction for the centenary special:
Dan will go back to Liverpool to rekindle things with Di leaving 13/Yaz in the TARDIS. Not a single beat will pass before the Master somehow captures them. (Opening Credits) Tegan and Ace will just be shoehorned in to fight the daleks/cybermen on earth alongside Kate Stewart/Unit. Ace will wear the original jacket and beat a dalek with a baseball bat so Chibnall can scream at the audience THIS IS A REFERENCE (but with no substance behind the reference)
Whilst this is happening, the Doctor and Yaz are captured by the Master somewhere off earth. He will then spend a good chunk of the story explaining the is evil plan to her by way of three pages of exposition. Back on earth Dan finds Graham and they have some kind of really forced banter, maybe Graham will do a little throwaway to explain where Ryan is i.e. Tosin would rather die than come back and Dan will reference Thasmin in some way.
So the Master is going to highjack all the Doctor's regeneration energy and the Doctor gets saved by Time (the character, the concept of time) who splits her into two.
The first Doctor will defeat all the villains at once and the Master but to do this will have to die and regen. I kind of see this Doctor saying goodbye to the other characters. I hope Chibnall isnt arrogant enough to do some kind of reboot regen.
I think the other Doctor will somehow through contrivances will be put into the watch with all her memories - so she can know the past. And I think this Doctor will be able to spend forever with Yaz in the watch? I know this sounds mad, bear with me - as it references Yaz's Nan and her husband being in a moment time forever, love is a form of hope, love abides yadda yadda
But you can bet if the rumours are true that the last things filmed where Yaz/13 scenes in the TARDIS then the regen, I think its two separate Doctors. If the rumour is true that the regen is outside, then I bet it'll be up that bloody hill from the Woman who fell to earth.

You could bring back Daphne Ashbrook with a different character name, and explain it away that she had to change her identity after she met the Doctor, because government agencies or conspiracy theorists etc. were harassing her. Just have her turn up doing charitable medical work in a remote jungle village or something.
So i'm gonna make the worst prediction i possibly can, and HOPEFULLY even Chibnall won't do something so stupid. I'm doing this so that by comparison the centenary special won't be quite AS bad. So here it is... When Yaz meets Ace she'll find out Ace and The Doctor had a love affair too. And he still left her behind. And now you are picturing Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred making sweet, creepy love, with candles. And the song "you are my rose" from The Room plays in the background. The scene ends with Sylvester walking away as the camera lingers on his bare ass. The sex scene returns a few more times throughout the episode just because.

No-one ever sees a Dalek and says "What the f*ck's that??", despite that being the reaction of the everyday Londoner to most things out of ordinary, never mind an invasion of small alien tanks.

That being said yeah I do agree the dialogue can be pretty artifical at times. Like historical characters who just speak modern. Or kids who speak like adults ect.
BRUH you don't know anything about Vicki? She's fantastic! She's basically a much better and more fun version of Susan. Might be my all-time favourite companion actually. You should watch her serials!
i don't mind turkey pirates i just mind the cast we have, it's bloated. Not just the guests but the companions who don't have enough personality to warrant investing screen time on. Only the younger male companion with the disability has a story that's worth watching, and you could say a lot about a guy learning to conquer his own adversities while traveling with a Doctor Who has to tackle new adversities given her appearance and the time periods they visit. Jody's performance is okay...ish, just doesn't help her new character to be strong and capable and commanding given the subject matter they want to tackle so instead they make everyone else around her useless to make her seem like she's smart and capable... idk i really just don't see why I should watch Who if the tone and presentation of a space adventure story literally isn't designed in a way where i can enjoy engaging with it cause the MESSAGE isn't aimed at me and the MESSAGE is all they care about now.

2. The episode not showing anything post regeneration, cut to black as soon as Jodie Whitaker disappears would be ideal. I don’t want the start of the new era to be at the back end of Chibnall era episode
