I feel like Orym's questions were going on the assumption that a doppelganger would *confidently* give an answer. Fearne often doesn't remember what spell she just used a second ago. The idea that she remembered Orym's spot in the pageant - since he didn't even enter as himself - was pretty far-fetched.
An acquaintance of mine on TikTok did up art of what they thought Fearne would look like with the shard way back in early November. They’re working on new Fearne and Ashton art as we speak🤩🤩🤩
@@tecknifer5503 No, they were joking that her mini wasn't on the map, but not because Laudna was doing anything. Matt just forgot to put her mini there. I was just joking about her being a nervous giggler in general, regardless of whether she was a doopledonger or not.
Off the rails IMMEDIATELY. I love it when they're slap happy. I feel like these episodes are the closest to what I imagine their home games are like. God bless Matt’s eternal patience.
This group is slowly beginning to feel like a group of elementals going around in mortal form. We have the obvious InFearneO and Ash-Stone, but we also have: - Orym as the essence of Nature (plant stuff, Seedling, is an Ashari) - Imogen as the essence of Lightning (The storm dreams, Purple themes, Levitation and Lightning bolts) - Letters as the essence of Metal/Gemstone (literally made of metal, some gems are believed to have healing properties by spiritualism, the whole "diamond in the rough" trope considering their backstory) - Chetney as the essence of Ice (grew up in the northern regions, werewolves are "cold-blooded killers", and is just generally a pretty *cool* guy) - And finally, Laudna is the essence of Life and Death (undead herself, can drain vitality from one to give to another, has both natural and unnatural aesthetics) Like, Im feeling as though this may end up as a second Calamity sort of situation, with a huge twist and this group having to fight off the gods as the elemental forces and changing the future of Exandria forever... And thats _fucking amazing._
actually they are doing real good hitting the damage types, Ashton for bludgeoning, Orym and Chet hit slash Fcg has the Radiant, got imogen for psychic and laudna for necrotic too. missing force and cold and piercing, acid and poison, but its solid coverage
I'm just going to mark this here for myself to celebrate finally having caught up in my binge. From C1 to here in C3 I have enjoyed every second of each episode. From laughing at sam's bits, to all of the emotional heartache, I have loved it all. I can't wait to finally have to say "Is it Thursday yet?" even though I can't catch them live due to a night shift schedule. VOD gang rise up!
@@terradon852 I also just caught up. It took me about 3-4 years of watching with various intensity of binging. There were some breaks, and there were some days when I watched the whole day which is about 3 episodes. but I also watched all side one-shots, and Talks Machina so my watch time is much longer that just 3 main campaigns :p Now it feels very weird when I don't have any CR to procrastinate to.
Woo!! Well done! I found after I caught up on C2 that when they started the next campaign I began leaving C3 unwatched for weeks, so that I could binge a few eps together 😆
Congrats! I only caught up on episode 49 myself, episode 50 was my first one I watched on Twitch. Unfortunately I live in the UK, it's 4am for me when the livestream starts, and I work so I've only been able to watch like 3 episodes live, when I've had a week off.
I’m still trying to work my through C1 while also watching the new eps of C3. Working on 80 now, then will watch 81…I love these people so much! C1 is already giving me heartache and side stitches. This campaign is nothing short of amazing.
The end of this episode being the true final test of trust is really where it’s at. Trusting your friends, trusting them to hold you accountable, trusting yourself. Just incredible.
And the third challenge was the cherry on top. I cant say I was overly surprised, but that didnt matter, the cast interactions during it were story line gold. 10/10
@@lenore-bw6qz not sure of the time stamp but it was a reference to the Legally Blonde musical - "oh my god, oh my god you guys" lyric. Sam said "Is that a real song?" like some kind of theater HEATHEN
(spoilers below) I love how... ...Matt clearly showed them at 13:05 two doppelganger cards and five normal cards, but before he shuffled them together his hands dipped down behind his DM screen just for a second at 13:08 which is when he must have switched the doppelganger cards for two more normal cards and when he shuffled them all together at 13:10 he did it with the cards facing away from the players so nobody noticed. That's a clutch sleight-of-hand check, Matt. Kudos. Fooled me right up until the end.
Taleisin's face when he gets the paper :D So Ashton's made of stone, Fearne's covered in fire... Imogen's kind of been turning into lightning, right? What else might happen?
When they get back to Exandria, I wonder if the members of the Arcana Pansophical would believe Allura that she had drinks and played games with the Fatestitcher. 😂
It's Allura, of course they'll believe it. This poor woman is constantly adopting Adventurers and getting dragged into ridiculous, life threatening, one-of-a-kind situations. I bet the rest of the Arcana Pansophical have a betting pool going about what weirdos she's going to take under her wing next and what gigantic, Exandria shattering conspiracy they'll drag her into.
I don’t think we’re getting new Ashton art until everyone gets new art. But it’s basically the same but there’s no gold on arm anymore. It’s just stone now.
@@kseniabiazruchanka4958 Matt described the arm as having cooled and the only noticeable difference being the lack of gold shortly after Ashton's arm was replaced.
@@anarkizt No, it definitely looks different from his regular body, specifically like a "heavy, muscular, molten rock arm". It's described as rougher and larger, akin to an earth elemental and made of volcanic rock
i can’t imagine matt would have allowed that since it’s an exterior protection and the fire damage was interior. i thought it too but it’s very possible it wouldn’t have done anything
"Matt is such a good DM," has been said a million times. I completely agree, but I think however good of a DM he is he's actually an even better man and friend. He did this entire game to bring his friends closer together and teach them to trust each other even more.
Not sure you can really say those were his intentions if he hasn't actually said them. It could easily be that he just made creative challenges so they would actually be difficult, but still be cool to watch and new for the players. They have been doing this whole Critical Role thing for years and years, why would Matt think they all need to have exercises that brings them closer together? I also think they fully trust one another since they have done 2 long campaigns already and dozens of one-shots.
@@hem9483 this guy is the type of guy to say "wow look at him being so wholesome :)" in response to seeing matt saying thank you after being handed a bottle of water from an event staff member
@you-didnt-see-me-here celebritization and idolization are a disease I stg with the amount of hours the audience spends watching the cast it makes sense but man... CR viewers can be intense
@@hem9483 It's so annoying when some people think they know how these people actually act and what they actually feel when not in character in front of the cameras. Sorry, are you close friends with them? No, then you don't know them and how they really feel about something! Did they say it on camera or social media? No, then it's all assumptions.
Poor Marisha, I also suffer from the nervous smile problem. 😂 In basically any "amogus" situation, I'd be voted an imposter before the first person is even killed! [In my friends & family's defense, they're right to distrust me. Anytime I do give them a solid chain of "accountability," I usually end up strangling them to death with it one after another] 😂
Episode 79 and 80 are my top favorite episodes of this campaign! I love the trials to rebuild friendships and all the honesty! I love the threat of Doppelgängers in this instance and I am SO HYPED! ❤️❤️❤️
Defitinely not just you. Especially because I don't have to avoid spoilers and even though it's torture I love having the excitement build up every week instead of just binging
So listen, I get the point of the doppelganger exercise and that it's about trust and bonding. Both for the characters as well as the actual cast members/friends. And don't get me wrong, I love and embrace that because that's part of the overall vibe and message of this channel/company/crew. But man I was really kinda hoping too see what could have actually happened had two of them really been doppelgangers. Doesn't really matter which two, it just would have been a fun thing for them to roleplay. Especially given the reveal of it being in their heads. Maybe even a fun one shot idea.
oooo a oneshot of that would be cool!! Especially because there'd be no stakes tied to it like there are here, they just get to dick around and do roleplay among us :DD
2:46:02 Imogen: “Do you think a part of you want to be in her?” Liam: *Deadpan stare* Laura is really set on this ship, and she ain’t getting off any time soon.

Urgh i frikkin love the energy of this episode, so much more relaxed compared to the stress of recent weeks. And a generally darker campaign. Nice to see everyone jus chillin and having fun ❤❤
Bidet Critters. I started C1 E1 on january first 2021 (after youtube decided to recommend me some videos of the Legend of Vox Machine making videos and trailer and i was hooked on it) and i finaly caught up and watch the latest episode on the same day as it going to youtube (i can’t watch it live, because of time zones). I watched almost all of the contend including talks and 4 sided dive and most of the one shots, but a couple i saved for later, because i was too curious about the main campaigns. It was a ride and it is going to be weird, that i can’t jump to the next episode after i finished with one. It was my challange this year to catch up and i’m suceeded. 🥳
12:43: Laudna/Marisha nailed it, this third exercise is probably about the most counterproductive you could do as a therapy for people with trust issues. Instead of encouraging and rewarding trust, the setup encourages the participants to be paranoid of everyone and to second-guess every little word, action and gesture for signs of the other person being secretly hostile. Especially for a person who has trust issues at the level of a trauma-induced pathological anxiety like Laudna, this would very likely aggravate their anxiety. This isn't a criticism on Matt or Sam though, it is a very fun roleplay challenge and it makes sense in-game because neither of the two characters who designed the challenge is a great therapist (FCG tries to be a good therapist, but is notoriously bad at it due to his lack of understanding, Morrigan is a fey trickster who isn't even trying to be a therapist and has doubtful motives. Maybe she just wants to have fun, maybe she thought an exercise in how to spot impostors among their group would be more helpful for her beloved Fearne (the only one of them she really cares about) than a general trust building exercise, given that some of them are at a very high risk to be taken over or corrupted by hostile entities at some point. P.S.: I'm writing this just after the start and haven't watched how it plays out yet, so I don't know whether there are potential twists to this exercise that Morri hasn't revealed them at the start.
This is exacly what I think their DnD sessions looked like before they made Critical Role. Matt doing mind tricks to his friends and them being way too intense and funny about it!
1:36:09 "There must be another way!" "Do you want to stop Snape from getting that stone or not? Harry, it’s you that has to go on. I know it. Not me. Not Hermoine. You."
Will this undo the ghost captains effects? Did Fearne get older because nana was "pausing" her shows to take care of her? Will Chetney regain his youth? Tell me!!

Off the rails IMMEDIATELY. I love it when they're slap happy. I feel like these episodes are the closest to what I imagine their home games are like. God bless Matt’s eternal patience.
Everyone needs to give Sam some love for his Emmy win the other night. I'm curious if he plans to work that into the next episode.
I’m like 99% sure this was filmed before the Emmy’s, came out last Thursday but they are also pre recorded in advance about a week or two sometimes….
I am aware of that, thus why I said the next episode.

Taliesin joined at the end too
This group is slowly beginning to feel like a group of elementals going around in mortal form. We have the obvious InFearneO and Ash-Stone, but we also have:
- Orym as the essence of Nature (plant stuff, Seedling, is an Ashari)
- Imogen as the essence of Lightning (The storm dreams, Purple themes, Levitation and Lightning bolts)
- Letters as the essence of Metal/Gemstone (literally made of metal, some gems are believed to have healing properties by spiritualism, the whole "diamond in the rough" trope considering their backstory)
- Chetney as the essence of Ice (grew up in the northern regions, werewolves are "cold-blooded killers", and is just generally a pretty *cool* guy)
- And finally, Laudna is the essence of Life and Death (undead herself, can drain vitality from one to give to another, has both natural and unnatural aesthetics)
Like, Im feeling as though this may end up as a second Calamity sort of situation, with a huge twist and this group having to fight off the gods as the elemental forces and changing the future of Exandria forever...
They should get you a job in the writing room! (Ik ik ijk!)
The real dopplegangers were the friends we made along the way

I'm just going to mark this here for myself to celebrate finally having caught up in my binge. From C1 to here in C3 I have enjoyed every second of each episode. From laughing at sam's bits, to all of the emotional heartache, I have loved it all. I can't wait to finally have to say "Is it Thursday yet?" even though I can't catch them live due to a night shift schedule. VOD gang rise up!
Just curious how long that took you?
@@terradon852 I also just caught up. It took me about 3-4 years of watching with various intensity of binging. There were some breaks, and there were some days when I watched the whole day which is about 3 episodes.
but I also watched all side one-shots, and Talks Machina so my watch time is much longer that just 3 main campaigns :p
Now it feels very weird when I don't have any CR to procrastinate to.
Woo!!
1:34:00 Fearne casts Speak With Plants, aka Matt gets to fulfill his childhood dream of starring a Jim Henson's Muppet show
Matt roleplaying two plants using sock puppet hands was something I didn't know I needed in my life.
I loved this too! Such an effective storytelling choice right off the cuff like that!
I Love the Fearne gets to do this with many of her friends old and new around her.
Travis dunking a Broadway musical reference on Sam of all people is truly hilarious.
And now I have it stuck in my head. “Oh my god, oh my god you guys!”

I love how...
...Matt clearly showed them at 13:05 two doppelganger cards and five normal cards, but before he shuffled them together his hands dipped down behind his DM screen just for a second at 13:08 which is when he must have switched the doppelganger cards for two more normal cards and when he shuffled them all together at 13:10 he did it with the cards facing away from the players so nobody noticed. That's a clutch sleight-of-hand check, Matt. Kudos.
Fooled me right up until the end.
If Chet sleeps with the Doppelgangers, does that make him a Doppelgangbanger?

I love Ashton's analogy that it just takes one bad day for each of them to fuck up as spectacularly as Ashton did.
When they get back to Exandria, I wonder if the members of the Arcana Pansophical would believe Allura that she had drinks and played games with the Fatestitcher. 😂
AND that there are now two random people running around with primordial shards in them.

I also think they fully trust one another since they have done 2 long campaigns already and dozens of one-shots.
what? they're playing characters. this is an improv show. stop being parasocial and weird.

I'm only 27 minutes in but setting off a trap that you know as a doppelganger isn't instantly lethal is a very good way to throw off your scent.
This episode really had all the energy of the last day of school before winter break.
If Sam doesn't make 2:59:04 of Matt's face into a shirt, he's missing out on, not only a great shirt, but a good shirt cameo reaction
Poor Marisha, I also suffer from the nervous smile problem. 😂 In basically any "amogus" situation, I'd be voted an imposter before the first person is even killed!

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EP 80 WE MADE IT YALL! another ep of frights plights and delights! let's GOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm impressed with Dr Middlebrecht's hairstyle in Sam's bit at the start.
I would love to see the shard process in the animated show. Especially Orym's interception of FCG will look soooo cool. :)

Will this undo the ghost captains effects?
Did Fearne get older because nana was "pausing" her shows to take care of her?
Will Chetney regain his youth?
