I remember playing this game when I was a kid growing up in the 80s I'm in my forties now. I'm getting old and gray-headed. But I still love to play them. ✌
It was the first racing game I ever owned, I was born in 81 and I love driving at the age of 41. This is the game that caused it. Knowing that you had to slow down for corners from an early age probably kept my ass alive 😂. I'm also going grey at a rapid rate, sir. Don't worry, women seem to love it. Just don't go bald
Great memories seeing this when I was a kid, watching the neighbor play it. When I played, I was in awe. Introduced this gem to my sons, they love it already. What a time to grow up with these games
I'm 43 I think this game got me on my whole kick of high speed long distance driving lol. Probably didn't help the first time I got behind the wheel with Dad at 12 I gamely held the wheel straight and let it roll straight ahead in Drive and dad astutely said "Just make like you're playing Rad Racer" and with that it clicked all at once and I gave our family wagon adequate amounts of gas and steering 🤫
Back in the day I could not get past the very last scene. Late one night, my mom comes in my room telling my sister and I "hey your daddy is at the end hes about to beat the game!" I run into the living room and he finishes it and were so in awe about it 😂 oh this brings back good memories
The last 2 stages are extremely hard. They always block you and try to bump you off the road. I played it on an emulator and did a lot of saves in order to finish the game.
After 25 years... I 've finally realized that this game (and F-Zero from the SNES) is the reason why I love the Retrowave, Cyberpunk, Synthwave aesthetic. It was the nighttime stages! I remember watching either my older sister or older cousins play this game because I was terrible for a 5 year old. But for some reason the night time levels were was visually appealing for me I'd always ask them to play the game so I can watch them get to the night time city levels. It finally come full circle.
The night-time stages feel almost like the long car trips with family members during the trips to various vacation destinations - there was something really magical about those night-time car trips.
My favorite racing game on the NES - and honestly one of my fave racing games period. It's challenging, but the difficulty never takes away from the fun.
My son picked me up RAD Racer a few months ago from a mall. It was one of my first nes games back in the day. I can't wait until I get my nes fixed so I can play it again.
Loved this game growing up. I remember jumping up in joy when I ram out of time and crossed the finish line while I was slowing down at Stage 8. Great memory!
Lol hell naw I hit the back of a car doing 255 straight on and crashed so hard that I flew into the finish line and it still made me do the course over...horrendous glitch.
Music and graphics are quite impressive. Still this game is quite tough since the time limit is very tight. The last stage itself doesn't allow you to mess up.
The car can coast for a while even if the time runs out. If you can pass the flag in the meantime, the engine will start and the music will resume. The moment is narcotic. It may stop just before the flag. Distances are displayed as dots on the map. A silent demo starts, but when you press the button, it's stage 1 mercilessly. But if you start, you'll get adrenaline again, so there's no problem
♏🦂🕵 I was 16yrs old when this came out. Im 52yrs old now & this will always be my most favorite cl race car game ever. Especially driving at night time. BeAutiful
I always noticed how smooth the transition was between hill tops and low valleys. It was a great aid to immerse me in the FOV and always had me looking at the horizom. Helped me judge distance and speed
This def gave me chill the nostalgia of this gave me so much memories back in the day with me and my brother staying up all night trying to play and beat this thank you for the walkthrough
The fact we as human beings went from this to Grand Turismo to Forza over the decades is nothing short of absolutely incredible. And i'll be alive to see what racing games are like in 2055.
It's amazing when you look at this game and then look at games like the Forza and Gran Turismo series and see how much racers have progressed. Loved this game back in the day.
I haven't seen this in ages. I used to play it when I was younger and it brings back memories. However, I have some interesting memories of it. I remember the music wouldn't always be there, and I never could figure out what triggered the music. I also remember starting in Course 5 you could not bump into the other cars or you would crack up.
Course 2 was always my favourite stage in this game, because it felt a lot like that toy "Playmates Fun to Drive Corvette Dashboard" from the 80s, except it was an actual stage in a game.
@@NintendoComplete Heard of it and played through some of the fan translated version before LiveALive came out (if there was a game in dire need of a 2.5-D HD redux, it's Racing Lagoon... they can just AKA-47 the car and part names if that's an issue.)
Nasir Gebelli, who programmed this game, is a genius. The characteristic of this simple car game is that it expresses the sense of speed very well, isn't? Because of this, the player goes too fast, crashes, loses time, and is unable to reach the goal. Although it was not the latest game and was for NES, its graphic arts and sounds entrance you with the sense of speed. In other words, this is not a game that depends on technique, but only players who can control themselves and not succumb to the ecstasy of speed can reach the goal. In addition, this car game does not play background music, but if you panic and press an unnecessary button, background music will start to play. I think that is interesting, because it fits the theme of this game mentioned above. He is also known as the programmer of Final Fantasy III, which was a very impressive piece of work too. ...I don't know, but I just wanted to explain. Thank you for positing.

I only had 5 games for my nes in the 90s. Super mario bros 1 and 3, marble madness, wizards and warriors and rad racer. It was the hardest, could never get past the night san fran level.
1. 11:30 that game will do that to ya 2. Nice run for whoever the player is. 3. I still remember playing this with the 3-D glasses way back in the day.

So much anticipation for that ending. Any memories from dad about the cheap ending?

It is finished he cried, and we all clapped
@Super Nostalgia amen
i completely understand that my dad was better than me at this game event the 2
Love the night stages. Huge amount of black really sets the atmosphere.
They were always the ones I liked best
The night stages always reminded me of that Corvette Dashboard console, where you moved a car left and right in front of a moving background.
The graphics look impressive for an NES game too. The parallax background layers, and cityscape details look great.
NES games always did a great job with night stages. Good call especially with this one.
The night stages are gorgeous for their time.
44 years old and you just took me back to 1989. Appreciate it

The music is amazing. Of course it’s by the Final Fantasy guy. One of my all time favs.
Rad Racer's name tells you pretty much everything you need to know about this NES classic.
Yes, it was. My favorite racing game in NES, and one of the very first I ever played. Worth it.
I prefer double dragon 3
Ainda considero ele inferior ao Formula One buit to win
You could also try Astro Fang. While it's similar to Rad Racer, it's mainly combat based and Famicom exclusive.
@@xxHUNGRY4THETRUTHxx Oh yeah I played that on emulator
Seeing this really takes me back, and it explains a lot of my current driving habits.

Pure nostalgia and I'm loving every second of it

My favorite racing game on the NES - and honestly one of my fave racing games period. It's challenging, but the difficulty never takes away from the fun.
First NES race sim. Ended up being the best NES race sim.

The graphics in Rad Racer is awesome. 😀👍🎮
Rad Racer DOES what Pole Position DON'T!!
I think rad racer have more in common with outrun than pole position
Haha as a previous Atari 2600 owner, I remember seeing this game and saying “Wow look at the graphics, it doesn’t get better”

So this is where Stinkoman’s theme song came from! I can’t believe I never realized that.
20X6!
“No way, you’re just a kid! Maybe when you’re older”
"Fighting and challenge and challenge the fighting toniiiiight!"
Glad to see i wasn't the only one who played the music in order. First stage with the first bgm, second stage/second bgm, etc.
Always the second BGM for me in every stage...I just enjoyed the tune a lot, :-)
Sega Master System had Outrun and the NES had RAD Racer. My favorite era of gaming😊
"Hey Stinkoman, everybody says you're the guy but... I wanna be the guy too!"
"No way, you're just a kid! Maybe when you're older."
This game had a 3D option as well, I loved this game as a kid

I will always associate Rad Racer with “The Wizard”. This is an iconic NES game to me.
I love the Power glove, it's so bad
@ Exactly.
The 5 buttons that cocky guy Lucas presses on the power glove are the 5 notes to close encounters!! Definately intentional!!!
Pick any game ya want---I got 97 of em!!!
I don't know who the villian was in the "Wizard"...Putman or Lucas.....!
That was a nice run. This was one of the games I played on my uncle's NES when he got me into Nintendo as a kid.
Thanks!
Same.
THIS GAME LOOKS SO GOOD OMG! I thought that those "3D hill" was only possible in 16bits
Brings back great memories
Stage 1 - Volkswagen Beetle
Stage 2 - Chevrolet Corvette
Stage 3 - Citroen BX
Stage 4 - Mercedes-Benz
Stage 5 - Lamborghini Countach

This racer is totally rad, other than the turbo feature. It's hell on your left thumb, due to hardware limitations.

I was 9 when I wanted to play it in 1987 when it debuted.
This was the second game I played on the NES and the first I bought with my paper route money, good times!
