      I remember outfits like that being stuff my parents' generation would wear to go out when I was a little kid. The disco era was really colourful. I always had all that polyester to dredge up when they dared comment on my teenage 80s metal denim or proto-goth outfits.

      I grew up in the 60s 70s and early 80s and the 70s music was fantastic but I hated those ugly clothes. Fine and I mean fine Black women in unattractive clothes. Oh well.

      American bandstand tried very hard to buy out soul train but Don Cornelius wasn't having it. He knew if he did, he would be pushed out and the dancers would be replaced to fit a more mainstream audience.

    That line dance was what my wedding looked like back in 79. The DJ was having such a good time that he added two hours for free. We made sure he and his helpers ate and drank as much as we did.

    Alright....me and most of my friends (many of us white) loved Soul Train back in the day. We just didn't obsess about color differences back then, it seemed. Most of us watched Soul Train, Good Times, The Jeffersons, etc, just like we watched American Bandstand, Happy Days, or Midnight Special. Great times.....I think we had more fun back then.

      Because there was something wrong with us back then. The 70s were weird. Check out some of the American Bandstand clips. We were all high and happy. And then in the 80s we all went to rehab.. LOL

    I used to dance to just not this song but also “I’m Just a Love Machine,” and really old school The Average White Band’s “Pick Up the Pieces” and “Cut the Cake.” Just think the majority of these people are now parents and grandparents!

      Tsunami 1112, my father was one of The Miracles that wrote and performed "Love Machine". I appreciate you enjoyed his song. He was a wonderful man that brought magic into me and my sister's life, growing up in that era was phenomenal!!!!.... This channel is awesome!!!...Infinite Love and Gratitude.

    When I was a kid (around the time of this Soul Train), most black boys had a pick in the back of their hair at school and most white boys had a comb in their back pocket. Keeping your hair 'neat' was such a thing then.

      The standard issue black dude's afro pick was the black one with the peace symbol cutout and the fist on the handle. The standard issue white boy comb was the plastic one with the long handle, made out of swirly plastic that looked like a Lifesaver lollipop. I don't remember if black dudes had a fragrance they all wore, but all the white boys were wearing either Hai Karate or Jovan Musk For Men.

    I had some platform shoes (not quite that high), platform sandals that were worn with rainbow striped toe socks, and I had many of these outfits (swirl skirt, cuffed plaid bell bottoms). Hey, it was 1974 😊 and I looked forward to Soul Train every week.

    I am a 52 year old white man that spent many Saturdays watch Don Cornelius and The SOOOOUUUULLLLLLL Train! It's now wonder I went in to radio and DJ'd for years before moving on to television. This never leaves you by the way!!! RIP Don C!

    I remember getting up early on Saturday morning to get the chores out of the way before Soul Train came on. We would study all the dances and go outside and practice with our friends, 💃🏽🕺🏾💃🏽🕺🏾.
