Omg! I was 14 when this came out and my older brother used to blast this song and Jungle Boogie from his red lowrider Impala with a black top and tinted windows while giving us rides to high school. Everyone heard us coming a mile away. Cops used to pull us over cuz the car was too low but as soon as all 11 of us(8 in back/3 in front) got out, it wasn't low anymore and cops could not write a ticket. Lol. Great times!

Back in 1974 , here I was a little white boy from East L.A I was 10 years old and this was the jam I loved the most. It just made me happy while living in poverty, drugs alcohol and physical abuse and stuck in a fuctup neighborhood. It was my escape from hell even if it was for about 4 and a half minutes. When I listen to it now that same happiness comes back to me.

The group had some jazz talent that's widely overlooked. The title cut from this album, "Wild and Peaceful" is a smooth 9:30 instrumental. Best cut on the album in my opinion.

Alright there was a transition in the mid 70s where R&B and soul I don't remember the term funk but to continue this was worlds different this new group called Kool&the gang .The current black radio stations still hadn't changed to much mostly slow jams and Motown with a little stack.records nothing you would call disco. There had been a record maybe a year earlier that was a proto disco minor hit. you can Google it. I don't think it's as disco as some music historians claim. Still it wasn't anywhere on the white billboard. Then along comes H.S. and I remember this like it was yesterday. I was watching a dance show coming out of L.A tv it played on late afternoon once a week. It was predominately white kinda American bandstand but a little trendier. That's when H.S. was first played on a tv broadcast. It was kinda a joke in my mind. I wasn't used to the elements the hi hat 8th notes the one kick drum the repetitive bassline and overly vacuous lyrics. Even my friend asked me what's this shit as the record started to get a lot of airplay the next month. Maybe it was too black for suburban white young adults. KOOL&THE GANG should get some credit for having the first nationwide true disco style record. DISCO clubs disco dances clothes vibe groups just exploded. By the end of the 70 s I was definitely a reluctant fan and KOOL &the GANG was one of the best. Still sounds amazing.
