The PERFECT WAY To GERMINATE MORINGA SEEDS!

  • These MORINGA seeds were started just 9 days ago. I believe I have the near perfect method of getting them to germinate & survive throughout production in zone 8. If need be, I will make adjustments along the way.
Step 1. Soak seeds in warm water for 48 hours. Step 2. Drain water and spread seeds on a tray
    lined with heavily moistened paper
    towels.
Step 3. Cover seeds with heavily moistened
Paper towels & place in a warm
    Location.
Step 4. Spray top layer of paper towels every
    Morning & night until germination.
Never allow the paper towels to dry
    out!
Step 5. Plant seedlings in a small container
When stems are between 1 - 2 inches
    long. Place under grow lights
    Immediately.
Step 6. Transplant outdoors once nighttime
    Temperatures are consistently above
55 degrees F. In colder climates, grow
    them in containers.
Step 7. Two weeks after transplant,
    Fertilize with nitrogen (fish emulsion)
    bi-weekly for a healthy crop.
Thank you so very much for watching & following our journey on the homestead.
Every time you Like, Share, Comment, & Subscribe, you are being a tremendous help

Mrs. H, I have been doing all of my seeds using the paper towel method since last year. I wet a paper towel (I squeeze out excess water) place my seeds on the paper towel and then fold and place inside of a plastic sandwich bag. This method is carefree. The plastic creates moisture. Within a week or two my seeds germinated depending of course on the seed. The ones that haven’t, it’s no biggie. At least I know before hand how many are ready to be planted. I’ve done the marketmore cucumber seeds, celery seeds, brandy wine tomatoe seeds that I got from you. They are doing great!
The only challenge that I had was with the celery seeds becuz they are so tiny but I got them planted. I’ve only been gardening for about 3 years now and just beginning to feel comfortable planting seeds in the house and learning how to adjust my light as the seed germinates and starts growing. Thanks for your wonderful videos. Will be 74 this year and still learning! I love it 😊

OMG, i just ordered some moringa seeds, after researching herbs and plants for their medicinal purposes. Although I am up in years, I have received a feeling, calling, urge to get to eating home grown vegetables, herbs and using plants that i can for as many purposes as i can. I have been researching the moringa tree and in some research it is said the plant has 9 x more protein than yogurt, 10 x more vitamin A than carrots, 7 x more vitamin C than oranges, 17 x more calcium than milk, 15 x more potassium than banana s and 25 more iron than spinach. Although when used in a tea it is decaffeinated, it will give you increased energy too. So, it is a blessing for me that all of a sudden your channel came up for me. I was also researching best way to plant potatoes so, your channel is truly a blessing for me today. I will continue to watch your channel, thank you.

I've been sticking cuttings in the ground to get more moringa and it works like magic. This spring I tried seeds but didn't know I needed to soak them first. I've had 4 out of 20 germinate and it's been almost 4 weeks! The seed starting mix has been kept damp but it's been sorry rate to grow. I'm going back to clipping a branch and sticking it in the ground. It is an amazing food and I love to pull off a branch's leaves and add them to a sandwich. Not much taste (if any) but packed with power! Love it. I dried leaves to powder and put into jell forms for vitamin supplements.I'm so thankful that you did this experiment and I learned how to sprout the few seeds I still have. YEA! Great information.

Great video! Next time you germinate moringa, try soaking for 1 day and take a sharp knife and gently cut off a little of the husk, not cutting into the seed, to expose the seed. This will leave a small opening for the sprout to come out.

We have been growing Moringa for years. My wife is from the Philippines. Your seeds need to be no older than two years. Just put the seeds in a damp paper towel and place in a zip lock baggie leaving about a 1/4 " open for air flow. No need to soak them. You should see roots in less than 3 days if seeds are healthy. We then just put them in their final container that is a 15 gallon pot.

Mrs. Heart, I used to grow moringa you've done a great job I'm starting them. Here's the thing about moringa tree they don't like their root bulb to be wet they prefer dryer soil. They can dry up in a drought for up to three years then as soon as it rains or they get watered they will start growing again. They can survive in temperatures down to 25° overnight and I've had mine survived down to 18 degrees for just a few hours.

I love your channel, girl. You've taught me so many things from canning to growing and living on the homestead. The question I had was when is it ok to plant them in the ground and where is the best place? Full sun? Partial? We're in Tennessee, do you think they'll survive the winter here or are they plants that need to be taken in in the winter?

I soak moringa seeds in lukewarm water for 12 to 24 hours and then plant one inch deep in soil. I get at least 80% germination rate, averaging 18 to 21 days. Some take longer but sprout. If the weather is cool, I use bottom heat (an old heating pad on low under plastic and a towel.
21 days is an AVERAGE, so there is nothing wrong if some take longer. Not every baby is born at exactly 9 months either. Be patient.

Hi. I'm in New Jersey, zone 7A. I plant moringa oleifera PKM1. I had one moringa tree planted in the ground on the side of my house 2 years ago, and it came back up from the roots the following spring. I wasn't expecting that! It wasn't the warmest or sunniest spot on my property so I was thinking maybe there was just enough rain over the winter to keep that tap root alive and unfrozen. Last fall, I left two six foot moringa trees in the ground in a different spot by my back fence and I can't wait to see if those come back up this spring.

I’m in zone 7B in NC. I prune them twice a season (eating or dehydrating the pruning) to keep them small enough to bring inside. My house is small with one south window, but they survive. You cannot leave them outside. They are tropical.

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT video!! 1st question, where do you get Moringa Seeds to plant that don't cost a small fortune?? I have been reading up on the health benefits of Moringa and have GOT to get some. I'm in grow zone 8b (coastal AL) and have heard that if you cut the stalk back before winter & MULCH HEAVILY that they will come back from the roots. They may not flower or produce the seed pods but at least we can have the benefits from the leaves. I've also heard that you can hang the leaves on the branches upside down (in bunches) and they dry well. Are you going to do a video on the benefits & how you use the Moringa? I've heard some people put them in the gel caps to take as pills.

I have a thought though I was looking at some other videos and they don’t cover what you cover but they cover some other information about the moringa trees and I have a thought that you may like to hear if your starter pots are deeper it may be 4 to 5 inch deeper, perhaps they’ll grow better and stronger because I’ve come to find out that moringa trees have an extremely long taproot. Let me know what you think and also can you let me know about getting the loofah seeds I’m going to start my moringa like you didn’t see what happens but I’d like to find out love to Homestead heart and family. I planted Moringa seeds in Solo cups. They came up and grew very tall 6-10 inches with double sets of leaves. I tried to transplant them to a permanent larger pot. The stems are so delicate once they get that tall. It’s difficult to even tie them for support.

Yes, their “trunks” are weak when young. The roots do not like to be disturbed and need deep pots. I would not plant in something shallow like Solo cups.

Hi, where did you leave them, in a dark boiler room or window sill and at what temperature?

You are so cute and funny. Thanks for sharing your tutorials. I do have a question, i have harvested my moringa pods from last year and i would like to know if those are still good to plant moringa cuz i lost all my matured trees from frost. Yes i cut them done thinking it is safe already and here comes the frost. I am from Jacksonville fl. Your input is appreciated.

Hi. This is a wonderful video. Could you please let me know where you left the tray and at what temperatures in order for them all to germinate?
Dark boiler room or window sill? I am struggling with getminating moringa seeds at the moment in the uk.

When planted this way, the moringa has a very weak stem in the first few weeks. Soon I will share a video I made about this experiment.

I germinated several seeds using your method and will soon have to put them in pots. Trusting they will grow to decent size trees to harvest lots of foliage.

Someone please please tell me where to get moringa seeds that actually will germinate. Last ones I purchased were from Amazon. They were garbage.

I buy mine at a local Indian Market that sells them for snack food, so they are fresh! A 7 ounce bag is $4. Cheap. Great germination rate!

About the red stems: (I don't know for sure but) more color usually means more nutrients :)

Tomatoes, you almost have nothing to do to germinate them. I keep a plate in which I throw coffee grind. From time to time, I throw tomato seeds there from fresh tomatoes, then spray the grind in my garden as fertiliser. I got plenty of tomato plants growing and good ones.

I took an extra measure to protect my little moringa seedlings just cut out the bottom of 1 gallon plastic jugs and that has protected thru the night then they can get a good start warmer during daylight uncovered 👍

Thank you for sharing what you;'ve learned thus far. My first attempt looked like a green stick.I just tried 2 more. Misted daily as well. Once they germinated, they grew leaves in about a week to two weeks. I let them sit outside one evening thinking 58 degrees is fine...One of them looks a little limp like the the leaves want to curl inward. Just slightly. I quickly put them back indoors under grow lights the way I had them. Thanks for the tips! I may start one more just in case. GA zone 8a,

Put a little food grade hydrogen peroxide in the spray bottle and spray twice daily that will kill off the mold
