      765LT is next level car vs the Z06. Hence, the next level price . Z06 vs R8GT vs 600LT vs Technica is way more appropriate, IMHO.

      would like to see plaid vs 765lt with the shorter track gearing and dragtimes driving because he has gottin mid to low 9s with the 765lt on the streets. and then gt500 vs z06 since gt500 beat regular c8 and we have seen base 80k gt500s start pulling from top option 185k z06 around 120 130mph gt500 starts pulling away which shocks me

      Mclaren has a lot more than just 100 hp more. Has around 850hp when put on a dyno

      @@_Ambition124 Can't argue about the weight though, that 765 is pretty light for a "mainstream" supercar. Obviously weight makes a huge difference in acceleration, coupled with +800hp that thing just flies when given the chance. The Z06 is just a great value given its performance, what a machine!

      yes! It offers exactly what commentator states... it's a very good taste of all the important skills sets. i own a C8 Z07. It's great on street and then the track, tho to change its personality to the max, u need to sets of rubber & rims alongwith a good alignment specialist for before & after adjustment

    This is an excellent format for a race - testing launch, acceleration, braking, cornering, and balance in a very concise format. I'd argue that Edmunds is killing it with this U-drag series. Well done!

      From the dig and the roll section, easily 720s. The Z06 w/Z07 will catch up in the corner. But that's 2 sections to the 720s to the Corvettes 1 section. So ultimately 720s will probably win.

      I don't know, the 720s makes more power and weighs hundreds of pounds less. The Z06 would have a better chance on a twisty track than in a straight line

      I think the weight difference is more impressive. You can always put more power on any car regardless if it's forced or na, but having 600lbs of weight difference is freaking outstanding.

    The heat waves coming off the McLaren is insane that it produces that amount of heat.

      That active aero definitely made a difference. I would like to see a Z06 without the Z07 package in this race as as Chevy admits it’s faster.

    I think we'll have to wait for the Chevy ZR1 Zora before this is a little more fair. Let's try it again in a couple of years, if Chevy follows through with the ZR1

      765LT already makes about 760 hp, on the dyno
      Rumours have it that the new ZR1 is going to make 810 hp, presumably at the crank
      And the McLaren is lighter anyways

    I just track days at Thunderhill east. A 765LT was parked next to my Mustang in the shade. I watched him zoom by at different places on track. Visible pulling away from the other cars in his class. Super cool owner too.

    I really appreciate how you guys did a running lap in between the races where you discussed the results and simultaneously let the brakes take a breather and gave the cars a cool-down. I see so many channels where they do a race and SLAM on the brakes and just sit there, letting the pads cook on the rotor after an immense deceleration. Keep up the good work, loved the video.

      Won’t matter. Those are carbon ceramic pads and rotors on the 765. They cool down in 60 seconds.

    McLaren: Half-a-million dollar hypercar with 85 more HP, and 130 more lb-ft of torque...and over SIX HUNDRED pounds lighter. As awesome as the new Z06 is, it's totally outgunned here. I'm surprised at how close the Z06 actually kept it. Impressive showing for the American beauty & beast.

      It seems close because the race is really short. A few seconds is a big difference for any tracks that’s short. Put both of them on a longer track let’s say the Nurburgring as an example, you’ll see a huge gap.
      Also, the 765LT have dyno’d about 760 to the wheels stock. So in reality it’s more of an 865LT lol

      Edit : i saw a lot of C6 ZR1s which has less power and still beating it and they also fully stock .

      That 765LT is almost lose to Z06 , Z06 did better 0~60 launch time , it has less power and naturally aspirated too but if it has same power , it will definitely beat that cocky overpriced and very overrated 765LT so easily .

    Excellent videos series, and exactly what I expected. I own a GT2RS and know not to mess with a 765LT in straight acceleration. I would love to have a run at it in this format though. Great concept.

    Wow that McLaren is next level fast. So impressive. Given the crazy markup on the Z06 and the crazy low prices on a 720S, I would definitely go 720s. Would love to see the 720s vs Z06 in U Drag

      If you go to the right dealer and there are many of them, you won't pay over sticker, of course if you are in Californication you will get screwed.I will get mine this spring or summer(depending on production) at sticker, getting the Z06 HTC sticker is $140k and that's what I'm paying not counting sales tx here in Michigan.

    600lbs less and 100 more HP with the advantage of turbo torque, we knew it wasn't going to go well just based on the spec sheet. That said there is nothing in the Z06s price range that competes so I'm happy to hear a McLaren and a chevy can be compared. A win for the USA in my opinion.

      This is some serious cope. A 720S is similar priced (even cheaper) compared to the Z06 on the open market and its performance is barely behind the 765. Plenty of cars that can compete at the current Z06 $180k range.

      Believe me price have nothing to do here ,you are not gonna pay 400k $ for 130fp of toque and 85 hp more and 600libs lighter because if you go and buy a vette c8 z06 in germany or italy for 2ice the price that cars in América lets Just say that the mclaren is about 380k dollars in América and the c8z06 is 162k dollars in europe so its no 500k dóllars it only 220k more expencive lol i Stiller take the c8 any time over the mclaren because reliability is way superior and no need to mod it , to me cornering performance is my point over straight brutal speed

    765LT has close to 850PS and with such little weight for its class we are talking about a missile on wheels. Z06 is simply a very fast car.

      To be fair, they're a lot more comparable on a track, but that aero on the Z06 along with the high weight, flat plane torque compared to turbo torque, and less power won't hold up against even a Huracán or McLaren GT in a roll, much less the 765LT. Here to hoping for a twin turbo Z06 with active aero can provide more realistic competition

    Even as a McLaren fan (and someone who is definitely not a fan of the Z06), I think this is a good test for the Chevy... to see how close it can run to a much more expensive, focused car. Yes, it's a pretty big gap, ut the Z06 performs very respectably, all things considered. It doesn't meet the 765LT in performance, but still punches way above it's weight and that's awesome to see. The Z06's power and traction off the line is very impressive.

    Horsepower plus less weight is a power to weight ratio that the Z06 can’t overcome. Totally outclassed it is not even fair to pair against each other

    I think the Z06 did amazing for being like 1/3 the cost. Who would have thought a corvette would be drag racing a Mclaren 10 years ago. Also, when the Zora comes out it will be much closer. Both amazing cars!

      10 years ago the mp4-12c had 615hp and a zr1 had 638hp and when you take that generation’s comparison to this one in the video, you see that the weight difference between the corvette and it’s competitor is more prominent now, it’s not as crazy as you thought

    I have a C4, have driven C7s and C8s and liter bikes, and have also driven the 720S. The 720S is ungodly fast AND quick, handles really well at speed, and while you really have to use a lot of force with the brakes they are excellent. I found that once the turbos were spooled up the car took off like it got a huge kick in the tail... 30 to 100 is over in a flash. The 720S was as fast or faster than the fastest motorcycles I've ridden. The 765's acceleration must be even more brutal with 5% more HP and a lighter vehicle. Given the difference in the power-to-weight ratios, the Z06 had no chance. That it got beat by the Z06 in 0-60 during the first race was a freak of nature... must have had warmer tires. I'd love to have a Z06... but if I could have any car it would be the McLaren.

      @@a.m.4049 The z07 probably wouldn't be any faster with the amateur drivers and only one corner. The car selection here is just bad for a competitive comparison. But nearly half a million for the McLaren the Z06 has far better performance per dollar. Koenigsegg vs McLaren would be similar results

    Love, Love, Love this drag race format and that you get to the actual racing quickly, unlike all other drag race videos. Please keep up the great work.
    This may be crazy, but I'd like to see either of these against a Tesla Model S plaid which should smoke both of these through the quarter mile, but how much will it lose on the braking and cornering. Interesting, no?

    I'm in England, picked up my Z06 last weekend, now available in RHD unfortunately the weather hasn't allowed me to enjoy it yet, rained every day since I picked it up, can't wait for next week, forecast good, but despite the limited use, it puts a big smile on my face just looking at it, and driving it is phenomenal

    Twin turbo power vs naturally aspirated! 755hp vs 670hp! 460 pound feet vs 590 pound feet! 2978 to 3060lbs (McLaren) 3535-3637lbs ( Z06) The McLaren was gonna win no matter what. It has all of the power to weight advantages over the Z06, but the Z06 will still be my weapon of choice. Great, exciting but predictable race and outcome. All of this is in MY OPINION

    It’s a mclaren guys those are priced the way they are for a reason so of course it’s gonna be a beast that Vette is no slouch Naturally Aspirated going against twin turbos and the car was dyno tested at 850 hp I expected the mclaren to win but this race was closer than what I expected

    How many miles are on the vette? The vette has a limiter programmed on the engine if under 5k miles for break in.

      The S would cook the brakes and probably run off the track with the speeds it can achieve. That is the S and X Achilles heel sadly, terrible brakes. I had a P100D S which isn't even as fast as Plaid, and the brakes were horrific. The Plaid uses the same brakes essentially.

    Love both cars. The wing on the vette is better for road courses, not drag racing. However, I'm sure the extra hp and lighter weight of the McClaren helped out too

      992 Turbo S is ~2 seconds slower 60-130 and a bit more 100-150 than a 765, it’s not a fair fight but we are talking about twice as much money, it’s expected.

      @@Mr.Nabil.Belhaj A GT4, GT3, or GT2 RS could turn faster, but that Turbo S is a hefty car, so I don't see it out-turning (or even out braking despite being a porsche) a 765LT. It is a grip monster off the line though, with much less aero to slow it down on the straight, so I assume it would perform better than the Z06 here, but just doesn't have the turning capabilities or the top end power of the 765 LT

      A lot of people on here are forgetting the Zo6's target is the 911 gt3 of which it just beats out at willow springs. That said the Zo6 did well for itself being outclassed here

      I can see it already, Z06 smashes it off the line, and narrowly beats it in the quarter with a much slower trap speed, comes out of the corner much quicker, and gets beat in the roll as the aero sucks it back. I think it could be a lot faster if they did a non-aero Z06, in which case I think it could survive the straights and still compete in the corners.

      @Navy Patriot101 Yeah, but even a Z06 could still fight a GT500 on a drag without all the aero slowing it down. Hopefully the ZR1 comes with active aero so it will be a dual threat on the track and the drag strip, although I do fear it will be a 4000 pound car

    The fact this pair up has even been considered just shows how much the Z06 punches above its weight. The Z06 is a darn fine car. To be more fair we will have to see what GM is able to do with its eventual ZR1 Vette.

    I think i will add one of these to my (1:18 scale) collection! 😅 Also the 765LT is a hypercar and does all things well. The C8Z06 is a supercar at 600lbs more, and is a track beast - ALMOST 765LT level. Lightning Lap 2023 proves this. I would take the C8Z with $200k+ in the trunk!

      Anybody who's in the market to purchase a car like the LT is not even thinking of the Z06, its a cool car no doubt don't get me wrong. But it can't compete with these new Ferrari's and McLaren's....720s/765 is on their way out the door a new model is in the line up soon. A very light tune on the LT or a 488/F8 will send these cars into another universe from the Z06 LOL.

The R8 (2nd Gen), the Hurracan, the 911 GT3, the 458 are all supercars that I have driven on track. In fact, pretty much any modern era sports car with over 500hp has supercar potential. You are confusing exotic with supercar. Exotics are NOT usually mass produced. The 765LT is both and exceeds “normal” supercar performance numbers thus making it a Hypercar. Cheers!

The artura, 720, and 765 are supercars. The elva, senna and speed tail are HyperCars and also the old p1. You obviously know zero about mclaren. No hypercar costs $380k like the 765 does. HyperCars all start at $1M. And a mass produced plastic corvette is no supercar. It’s a sports car at best.       u-drag comparo of their best times and mph... new Z06 $160k --> 31.6 seconds, 145.3 mph; base GT500 $80k --> 30.9 seconds, 145.5 mph..not bad for 1/2 the price and a 4200lb mustang.

      The Vette is approx 1,000lbs heavier than the 765LT and it closer to 200bhp down (the 765LT makes 765bhp at the wheels and ~880-900bhp) at the crank from independent dyno runs. This is why the 765LT drives away from the Vette like it's parked up. McLaren always under-rate their cars like this.

    This is actually great news for the Z06. This proves how damn awesome it is. It takes a car that costs $490,000 and 100 more horsepower to compete and beat the Z06. The Z06 proves to the rest of the snobby supercar world that dollar to dollar they're paying way too much just for a name (Lamborghini, McLaren, Bughatti, etc.).

      An odd comparisson and the 765LT is $380k (they just tested an optioned to the hilt model). There isn't a value equation that makes any sense when comparing super/hypercar prices, Value isn't just mentioned in performance either, the McLaren has such incredible performance thanks to its incredible design and construction which is very expensive. Also choosing a non-American supercar isn't snobby, nor are they paying too much if its the car for them.
      Also the 765LT didn't compete with the Z06, it destroyed it.

      Different, shorter course. We had to fashion a longer course to account for ever-faster cars, especially heavy EVs with less-than-impressive brakes. This change in course invalidates comparisons with previous racing rounds, hence no carryover leaderboard.
      This setup worked well, so we should be good from hereon out. Hope this helps explain the difference. Thanks for sticking with us and hope you enjoyed the race.

      @RiceCzechs bullshit. The Z06 did a 10.9 second quarter mile. We've already seen them hit 10.6 seconds as advertised on the street without a prepped surface, and the speed it cornered in the U-Drag was higher than GM's skidpad speed yet it had less lateral grip. The Z06 tires are supposed to deflate to 24psi during performance use so it was either incorrectly set to 35psi like C&D did or was still under 500 miles limiting 30% power
