The M8 isn’t actually making “617hp”, it’s making around 610awhp, that would be around 700hp to the crank, give or take depending on the drivetrain losses. Not sure how much power the E-ray dynos at

This is probably because BMW underrates their power figures, and the E-Ray loses hybrid power at higher speeds, along with how Chevy measured its horsepower claim (adding together peak power figs of the LT2 and the E-Motor separately)
The E-Ray feels like the spiritual successor to the late 60s hydraulic-cammed big blocks -- the 427/400 and the 454/390: big torque, big low speed acceleration and all the accessories you could want. Fantastic street-oriented sport car.
I think vehicles like, for example, Explorer ST, that run high-13's and over 100 MPH in the 1/4-mile are the spiritual successors of the fabled big block cars of the past, seeing how the Explorer ST will walk those cars in acceleration, handling and braking and have all the accessories you could want. The E-Ray and M8 are in a totally different level of performance, performance levels that only gutted cars that were trailered to the drag strip could match in acceleration.
ywah both are very close to time so it would be nice to see it done on the same day and conditions. Im wondering though if GM is telling all these YTer not to do that. That first corner in the E-Ray was a work of art. 1.43 Gs is ridiculous. I'd wager despite the claimed numbers the M8 actually makes similar power or even more given the identical quarter mile trap speeds despite the half-second gap, along with it's previous best roll race speed.

That M8 is definitely a Beast! Everything above it on the leader's board is either a true two-seater sports car or a true super car. A true Four seater GT car mention in the same conversation as a ERay, that in itself is a major technological and mechanical feat to be proud of. Love It!
It all depends on who is driving a mustang! The same with a bmw.. it mainly depends on the driver because those cars are so unique a mustang can either be the best car or the worst car depending on said driver same as bmw.

It blows me away that the Z06 is faster on the U-Drag than the E-Ray. The Z06 is RWD and way down on torque. Its only advantage is that it is a bit lighter. Unless you have a need for AWD for bad weather, I can't see buying the E-Ray over the Z06.
So two things. But first information, the E-Rays combined total output is 655 hp up to 75 mph (estimated). After that battery and motor will wane power as the speed increases. By 115 (estimated) mph there is almost no power coming from the hybrid system. So this leads to number 1. The Z06 has full power of 600 plus hp all the way through the quarter mile and then sum. So by the end of the quarter mile. The E-Ray is only pushing 400ish hp (to the wheels) in a 4000 lbs car whereas the the Z06 weighs in at 3600 to 3700 lbs with an extra 200 hp. Number 2, the Camaro ZL1 1LE is the better track car despite weighing essentially the same as the E-Ray. The reason I say this is because the C&D Lightning lap shows that the Camaro is quicker around the track. Which suggests that it's cornering ability is superior to that of the E-Ray. If the Camaro ZL1 1LE has superior cornering ability to that of the E-Ray, then the Z06 has superior corning ability than both the ZL1 1LE and the E-Ray. While also having superior or at least on par quarter mile than the E-Ray. Which is why the Z06 is the quicker car. It's also why the quickest track cars are RWD only. The AWD will help new drivers and be more consistent but RWD is superior on track.

one more suggestion for U-Drags. what about getting tuned cars for the event? things like the Saleen S302 and the Callaway C8? these turner charge a lot more for these cars, it might be a valid test to see if their value relative to their stock counter parts is justified.
I've owned the 2020 M8 and the 2020 gt500. Felt safest in the BMW all around just didn't like my size 13 jammed between the M8 accelerator and brake. Had to drive it shoeless. Sold them both to buy a home in paradise but I'll always have the memories while my brain is good..lol
Im waiting for whatever the Z06 hybrid thing will be called to be released then ill be buying my first ever corvette. Based on how much the e ray jumped over the stingray, should be a mid 9 second quarter mile and be right there with the mcclarenrs on your udrag time. I expect 0-60 would be 2.4
Nice but in my opinion real battle for eray awd is with 911 turbo s awd as eray is advertised to be 0.1 sec quicker than 911 turbo s awd advertised 2.6 secs 0 to 60 mph. Please do similar drag race with 911 turbo s.
I wish all automotive testers had their own dynos and tested all their test cars on the same dyno and see how it compares to the manufacturers specs. If the results are not close, take them to a shop with a different dyno and run again. That would eliminate some of this hp back and forth talk.
Well said, a 4 seat (heavy 600 plus lbs heavier) grand tourer against a purpose built sports car with multiple motors, what did they think was going to happen? Put the Eray against the upcoming M5 which also has a v8 and electric motor but is also heavier and it might be more interesting.
Pirelli P Zeroes are hot ass. I don’t think they would have helped too much on this race but put the BMW OE Pilot Sport 4s on that M8 and it wouldn’t have been so squirrelly on that second lap.
Yet the M8’s best time previously was only 0.3 seconds slower and 3.7 faster than the E-Ray’s best time (previous). Air density is certainly hurting the M8 this time. Turbos aren’t immune while hybrid is more so. I’d like to see this race in the dead of winter.

I wouldn't be so sure on the Aerodynamic stats. My guess would be the M8 has a lower coefficient of drag. Corvettes are generally not so aerodynamic.

That's a cool comparison. It'd be fun to look at all the ways manufacturers have tried to boost low-end torque over the years.

Something about that E-Ray sound that is just exhilarating. Not as good as the Z06 sound, but just different. A symphony with multiple instruments.

@origaminefretami3480 how was that comfort mode? M8 squatted on launch defs was not and why would they run it in comfort mode? Plus a more even match up against a turbo is a Z06 or upcoming ZR1 or Zora
@@rdb-pc4spfull on mid engine sports car that is newer with really nice looks and performance plus sounds better which is a bonus. Plus M8 comp is BMW's top tier performer, e-ray is mid at best in Corvette line up
one more suggestion for U-Drags. what about getting tuned cars for the event? things like the Saleen S302 and the Callaway C8? these turner charge a lot more for these cars, it might be a valid test to see if their value relative to their stock counter parts is justified.

I've owned the 2020 M8 and the 2020 gt500. Felt safest in the BMW all around just didn't like my size 13 jammed between the M8 accelerator and brake. Had to drive it shoeless. Sold them both to buy a home in paradise but I'll always have the memories while my brain is good..lol

Nice but in my opinion real battle for eray awd is with 911 turbo s awd as eray is advertised to be 0.1 sec quicker than 911 turbo s awd advertised 2.6 secs 0 to 60 mph. Please do similar drag race with 911 turbo s.

Really? The corvette has a natural traction advantage with its mid-engine layout even when you take into account AWD. Its also lighter.

I wish all automotive testers had their own dynos and tested all their test cars on the same dyno and see how it compares to the manufacturers specs. If the results are not close, take them to a shop with a different dyno and run again. That would eliminate some of this hp back and forth talk.

Eray against the upcoming M5 which also has a v8 and electric motor but is also heavier and it might be more interesting.

The C8 in general dollar for dollar is such a tremendous buy. GM hit a home run with this one.

Pirelli P Zeroes are hot ass. I don’t think they would have helped too much on this race but put the BMW OE Pilot Sport 4s on that M8 and it wouldn’t have been so squirrelly on that second lap.
Yet the M8’s best time previously was only 0.3 seconds slower and 3.7 faster than the E-Ray’s best time (previous). Air density is certainly hurting the M8 this time. Turbos aren’t immune while hybrid is more so. I’d like to see this race in the dead of winter.
