    To me, the main difference between bizardvark and iCarly is that in iCarly, they had an internet persona, but once the cameras were off, they were normal kids. Yeah, there were a few odd situations, but the characters acknowledged it. Whereas in Bizardvark, the kids were weird on and off camera. It was hard to even determine their personality because it was masked with too much goofiness and quirky remarks.

      I've never thought of it that way, but it's such a good point! Carly and all of her friends were essentially sketch comedy writers AND actors, and they were really good at it. I've never seen Bizaardvark, but it would be weird if Carly and Sam ever acted like their sketch characters irl. Thinking about the scenes where they're just brainstorming ideas for new sketches, yeah they really came across as just real regular people.

    I always felt that Disney Channel was completely unrelatable stuff that felt like a really young kids imagination of what being a teenager is like, and I think I finally understood it when you mentioned the fact that these kids don't even seem to have parent figures.

      Wah- this hits hard lololol if I try to watch a new Disney Channel show now, I get the "yeah, it's not for me anymore" vibes. But when I was a kid? Zack&Cody, That's So Raven, Waverly Place and many others, including the Disney XD ones. All of that were what I thought that being a teenager was like: having a 3~4 people group of friends, going out everytime I wanted, going to a school with those _wardrobes..._ oh, that one was THE dream lmaooo

    • @musiclover_kb4913
      @musiclover_kb4913 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      It depends on the show, some shows have more relatable elements than others. Yes there were concepts like a teenage girl who is psychic, twins and their single mother living in a hotel, a girl living a double life as a pop star and a family of wizards, but those concepts were used to still make the characters relatable ppl. The concepts I listed don't cancel out other relatable aspects the characters in these shows may have

      Mostly yeah

    • @alexanderstone9463
      @alexanderstone9463 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Disney Channel’s target audience is kids. So even though you are framing this as criticism, you could argue that this is actually praise, even if you yourself think otherwise.
      Yeah, no duh a channel aimed at kids is gonna try to produce shows from their point of view. You’re basically saying that Disney channel succeeded repeatedly in doing so.
      Yet I do think you’re right that their shows could be un-relatable. I do not however agree with the reason. Disney channel shows almost always featured characters that were upper class or upper-middle class. I’m not some crazy radical saying that that’s evil or something, but I don’t think it’s a good way to make your characters relatable to broad audiences. I have long suspected that this (or more specifically it’s subversion) was one of the factors that turned the Suite Life into one of the most popular shows in Disney Channel’s entire history. It was the only one I remember in which the leads were even supposed to be working class. The other reason of course was that the two leads appealed popular amongst both male and female audiences.

Competition, monetization, restrictions from the higher-ups, sponsors, copyright, censorship, etc. The problem is that, unlike iCarly, the characters don’t feel like… well, _people._ Everyone feels like a caricature that doesn’t act any different in real life than they do in their videos.

    Alex's videos are my favorite videos to watch. I love movie reviews, my favorite person is Dylan is in Trouble, and I used to be obsessed with TheOdd1sOut animation stories. So Alex combines my two favorite genres and I am fully entertained and interesed in his videos the whole time. Thank you for your amazing work Alex.
