The Mission to Alaska is now the fourth watch that I've bought as a result of watching this channel, and it arrived last week. The other watches being the No Time to Dive Pagani, the Pagani GMT 'Steve McQueen,' and indirectly the Detroit Mint Pogue based on the strength of the bullhead chrono review. I love every one of them. I have to say that the MtAK is much prettier in person than in the pictures. The face has a metallic/pearlescent finish, the sunken sub-dials give it a really nice sense of depth, the printing is clean and sharp, and to top it off, the sapphire tachymeter ring looks amazing. The red really pops and gives the piece a sense of fun that has drawn a lot of attention and compliments. Thanks again for another recommendation that was spot on!
I have that Vintage Baltany in the aged creamy yellow dial. Brilliant watch and fantastic build quality! Often wearing it over my more expensive watches still, 3 months later!
The Cooper is a copy of the Sea Quartz 30, recently re-issued by Momentum. That one's a quartz as well. It's the watch Magnum P.I. wore in the first couple of seasons of the show.
I’m going for the San Martin SN0109. It’s a clone of the bb gmt, but at 39 mm. I love the original, but when I tried it on it was too big for my wrist. Looks absolutely stunning in the photos I’ve seen of it on social media
I just ordered the San Martin Monoblock using your link. Itll be my first Chinese homage watch, but I’ve heard so many great things about San Martin that I wanted to see on in person. Chinese manufacturing has gotten extremely good in many places, like the high end folding knives being made by WE, Reate. Or Kizer, or the fantastic handmade guitars coming out of the Eastman factory. I’m excited to dip my toe into the Chinese watches scene.
Some awesome options indeed! I ended up buying the new cased seagull 1963 style watch, in Titanium 40mm case and sapphire crystal. The dimensions seems great and also the finishing!
I bought the 38mm baltany d12 and I have to say it's better than I thought! And I do owe the purchase thanks to your review on your baltany. Thank you!
I've already had the thorn and a baltany in my cart . After this video I tried to throw that cooper in as well but couldn't find it for the price you showed and some wouldn't even ship to the states even at the higher prices
I love to see more quartz movements getting some airtime. my daily driver is a Tag F1 and its a daily driver for a reason. never drops a beat. Great vid as always
Huge thanks for your Baltany Chrono review, it's my favourite watch at present too. I even loved the strap on yours and got the Barton Elite too. Lovely watch. 😀
An idea if you are contemplating the second or even third Willard. Look at the highbeat movement version. I bought mine two years ago and it's my daily 24/7. At the time it's $50 premium over the NH35 version. If the 7s26 we suffered for three decades has "loose" daily time keeping, the better nh35 is "soft". While the highbeat is much ”stiffer", returning within one second per day, with little long term drift. The only complaint being the eccentric screw for regulation has really small slot, and a little piggy to work.
Thanks for the heads up on that Cooper MilSpec Submaster! I couldn't help myself and included the SM8016 ST A version in my order, which will add to my main purchase, a Hruodland F018 Red sterile dial.
As of this minute the Cooper Milspec is $96.39. We will see what it is on the 20th. Edited to add: On the I Like Watches channel this watch takes the number 1 slot for increasing its price during the sale on the March 21st video.
Nice to see more quartz watches are making an appearance. I get that there are purists who are only interested in autos but for me, having to check and often having to set the the time on a watch every time it comes out of the draw has worn thin. Autos are interesting to look at but if I'm buying a watch it has to be quartz, preferably solar and better still, multiband 6/radio controlled. I think Steel Dive are missing a trick by not offering a quartz option in each watch in their range.
I bought one of the Vietnam troop watches made by Qimei with the VH31 quartz movements Jody mentioned in the video and it's stellar. It's the best of both worlds. A quartz with the look of an automatic. I received mine from the seller in about 15 days to the U.S. so all in all good experience. The watch itself is like a combo between a diver and a field watch. If you happen to come across it while shopping AliExpress I think you will like that one. 👍
@@strongandco you don't need a winder for every single watch. Just a couple for your watches you plan to wear. Admittedly, you have to plan ahead a bit.
I find quartz more annoying then autos minus maybe solar. If you don't wear a quartz regularly, it just ticks away wasting away the battery and moving parts while not on a wrist. Making that decision if you should replace a dead battery after three years on a watch you might not wear much. Autos are the perfect large watch collection watch. They go into sleep mode until your ready to wear it. And if you're bothered by taking a minute out of your day to set the time, maybe you're not that into mechanicals period. Watch winders seem pointless to me, they're just a talking point. Most mechanicals lose or gain seconds or many seconds a day so why would you want to pull out a watch after 5 days that may have lost a minute or so of time. Not to mention the constant moving of parts when not in use just to avoid the dreaded setting the time.
Wow some really nice watches up for a bargain and I hope San Martin send you the SM Monobloc for review as it looks crisp in the photos. Great video Jody! 👍
Just ordered that Cooper dive watch @ £38.77 UK its a no brainer, many thanks for the heads up and enjoy your commission ;) Just seen the price has just doubled on Aliexpress today!! Glad I got in yesterday :) The power of TH-cam eh?
@@SidBonkers51 Aliexpress price doubled day after my purchase. My order had "tracking number" but didn't move then order cancelled then seller offered substitute worth half the original price. Why do we accept/expect this crap?
I never could get a Marine Master 300. I didn’t know about them back in the day and, when I cracked aware of them, they were way too expensive. If San Martin is half as good as you say it is, I look forward to picking up one of those. I am also looking into the No Time To Die and Tiffany Dial Date Just Pagani Designs.
Thanks for your reviews, Jody! They got us through the pandemic and we still look forward to them. I am seeing some weird things on Ali though. Best wishes from the opposite side of the planet!
PD have upped their game I think (probably all the Chinese 'cheapies' have). I wish they didn't use that name, though. Seems dishonest to be - A bit like calling themselves Lamborghini R&D or something. Pagani has an obvious association and they don't do any design (although it seems with the MtA someone had to get their felt tip pens out, at least 😏) - I've still ordered one, though 😆
@@marksaxby607 Pagani is an Italian name derived from the Latin "Village Dweller". Some excellent possibilities there. I do think that Mars watch is a good option, I got the Uranus one a couple of months ago, blue with white ceramic bezel and it's very decent quality, I might get the red one too. One thing to note the edge of the case opposite the crown is ever so slightly sharp, not uncomfortable but it might bother some. I masked the side and used a bit of 600 emery paper gently rubbing for about 5 minutes or so and making it as smooth as silk. The bracelet is quite decent quality but also slightly edgy, the emery paper will fix that too. Definitely recommended at the price!
Great video. I think this time I will finally buy the Seestern 600t it wasn't on this video but you have reviewed it before. The new Addiesdive homage to the Willard with a white sandy texture looks great.
