Hey! I was just wondering how you interpret the stag, as a symbol, in the Queen? It seems to be a very flexible symbol, as I've read so many different interpretations!
Love this channel by the way, it is so helpful!!

Hi Chloe - thanks for watching and I'm glad you're enjoying the videos!
My original interpretation of the Stag was that its importance was in its death. The fact that Queen Elizabeth sees it running and appreciates its soul/life/image/value/beauty, only to then see it later killed brought to mind the idea of her coming to terms with the ending of the monarchy or if her own reign and the family that she heads perhaps faces a similar fate.
I have since read an interesting idea that her mourning and link to the animal happens in private - solidifying the idea that her public persona must be one of stoicism and the repression of her own emotions. From there we can make links to Priam and his consideration of his grief for his lost sons in comparison to Somax, along with all fo the other examples of his querying the impact of not venturing outside his "royal sphere".

Why have you put has been inside those square brackets at 4:05

Hi Dane - great question. Square brackets have been used because the original quote has been altered so that it 'fits/works' amongst the language of the essay.
In this case, the original quote from the film is “Royal protocol is being swept aside en masse today.”
Of course, the word 'is' wouldn't work within the sentence of analysis and so the quote must be changed slightly.
Thanks for watching and for paying such close attention! Please continue to ask questions if you have any more.

Hi Nadera, the paragraphs are written in isolation of any question/topic so unfortunately there isn't an introduction.
