My son and I make a Christmas house each year. They are miniature houses made out of cardboard (shoeboxes, etc.), and they always have a theme or special design. We’ve made, a Wizard’s Christmas Shoppe, the Sugar Plum Fairy’s cottage, the evil Snow Queen’s castle (from Hans Christian Anderson) with a serpent staircase, potions, and crystal steps made from Borax, and this year we are making a candy palace for a candy queen named Dulcinea. It’s fun to make up stories for each house, and we get a lot of good time together creating. It started randomly one year when we sat together and made little items while creating a story, and it has just continued on each year.

Julie, this was so much fun to watch! I remember, at 9 or 10, being home sick with the flu, right before Christmas, while my parents were working. They got a local girl to come stay with me and we made American felt ornaments angels with rick rack, Little drummer boy drums and I still have them. I'd love to know what you have brought to Mappreton and your family's Christmas celebration from your American Christmas celebrations. When you have the time I do hope you will share.

I too love needle felting and usually make little creatures: mice, pigs, sock monkeys... mostly for my grandchildren. Never thought to create a menagerie for one of my many Christmas trees. Thanks for the inspiration!

Started, macrame a few months ago, and made some angels as gifts young and old loved them to hang on the tree, or put a few of them in a metal hoop with a small string of battery light's for the really younger grand kids, so they could hang them in their bedrooms , I was able to get little leather tags, saying, "handmade with love" and attached that to them, made them look really pro

I loved this episode watching you both making the felted ornament. I love ornaments and will definitely be making these next Christmas for gifts. I have working with wool and felt for years (Penny Rugs/Folk Art, using a blanket stitch to attach it to the base fabric/wool) but have not mastered the wool felting process that was shown. I do have some of the supplies already and have tried it with not much success. I will have to give it a go again. I do remember though getting myself with the needle and oh my does that ever hurt! Thank you again for the inspiration Claire in showing us more of your talents. You did a fantastic job on your ornament Julie and not getting pricked by the needle on your first go of it! Impressive...you really didn't want to get stuck :)). Merry Christmas!

Seems like I have only ever read of women doing needlework in the drawing room or using bobbins to make lace! Just love your channel! Thank you!

This is so beautiful. It is wonderful to see handcrafted pieces from England which seem to be on the rise. Though not as uncommon as felting, crocheting has helped me save my sanity....so far.. ha ha I have made amigurumi Christmas pieces and so meditative it is. Wish I can do felting but no abundance of wool here in the Phiippines : (((

WHAT!? That's a cool technique. Who on earth would have come up with that? The entire thing, all the way through, is done by stabbing the wool together. It's kind of like 3d printing. You could make basically any shape and it would all be seamless and with seamless colours. Looks like it would be strong too. Interesting!

Over the years I have done many things to make ornaments. I have a needle felted snowman and holly leaves. I have hundred of crocheted snowflakes that went on pine garland. I have knit covers for glass balls that oxidized and are no longer pretty. I have quilted things. I have felt ornaments that I embroidered and added sequins. I have plastic canvas ornaments. I have counted cross stitch ornaments. I have pierced paper ornaments. These didn't hold up well. I've taken scraps and odds and ends of stuff and created ornaments. A friend used ceramic tile and fabric scraps to make a holiday trivet. A lot of mod podge went on there.
So many things that I have not yet done. I would like to hand carve wood ornaments, stained glass ornaments, silver work, gold work.
I want to add. Don't get too vigorous with the needle. I did while working on my Holly leaves and drove the needle through my thumb nail.. I added Holly berries to cover the oops.
