      Yeah there’s a weird thing where I wanna see what other people can do with it and think of it. It makes me feel like I spent my money well and maybe teaches me a trick. I would otherwise possibly choose to exchange the item for something better.
      This is a nice amp though I don’t see myself doing that. I am seeing how crazy good my solid state full stack really was, but this thing edges it out.

      @@justinTime077 I got my 40cr yesterday and I noticed if I press the fx loop on/off switch nothing happens. But if I use the footswitch it works. Is that normal?

      @@NewBeginningNewCreation I am assuming based on prior amps I've had that if you have the FS connected that the button on the amp will be overridden. Thats usually the case. Unplug the FS and I bet it works.

    I get that a Marshall makes great heavy tones but they can make nice blues and clean tones too. The only demo I've seen that touches on the less overdriven sound of the new DSL40CR is by Shane of "In the Blues". I mention this because most of us have to play a variety of styles and having one amp to cover several styles is highly desirable. Based on this review I wouldn't know how capable/flexible the amp really is. Sweetwater will still get the sale, I'm going give the new DSL40CR a try, but it's because of Shane's demo. I believe Sweetwater is hands down the best online retailer, just suggesting that a little more depth on the products chosen for demonstration would be better for buyer and seller.

    I cursed this amp for being way too fizzy etc, so much that I did not use it for months. THAN, on another amp, I found full base, full mids and whatever treble, did wonders. I tried that with this amp, and now, it is my favorite. Either no treble, full mids and base three o'clock, and use the presence and resonese for fine tuning. If anyone things it is a fizz treble awful try my settings, good place to start.

      I have read comments about the DSL40C being fizzy, but this newer DSL40CR was altered at the factory to end the fizz. This amp sounds amazing here. He's really got a lot of great sounds dialed in. I think I need to have one on these amps. Maybe 2!

All seemed to agree that I had a dud. Unless all our ears were faulty, the amp is a fizzy thing, but now with this setting, it is better. Who knows, because it sounded so much like the first version, I think maybe they used up old boards or something. It is quite good now, thankfully.

    Ive had the 100HR since launch and these amps truly are incredibly versatile. Im pretty active on the marshall forum when it comes to DSL stuff. Anyways the one gripe i have (well i have a few but my issues pale in comparison to my admiration for this amp) ....eh um back to what i was saying. The one grip i have is that Marshall decided to make the 40CR controls reverse of the 100HR controls. Now let me get this out of the way, i know WHY they did it. The boards for boths amps are the same. The only difference is the number of tubes and a few less components for the 40CR. And because the boards are the same the controls end up "backwards/reverse" when they turn then upside down to accommodate a combo amp. Its just really confusing since im really used to the way the 100HR is set up so when i play friends and fellow musicians 40CR's i always get the gain and volume backwards etc. And its a "habit" that is damn near impossible to break lol.

I am wondering if you (or any followers) have another clean CLEAN settings suggestion for this amp you/they can share? For some of my band's material I need an excellent clean sound for MoTown, ballads, some pop. I have a Les Paul with this amp. I also use a Strat on occasion. Of course the dirtier OD & distortions are exactly what I wanted from this amp. Any and all suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. BTW ... please don't suggest I go buy a Fender, Katana, etc. Been there. They don't sound like Marshall's! Am I expecting too much out of this amp? Many thanks.

      Hi, Stephen. There are a lot of settings I could suggest on these amps, but the best thing to do is experiment to see what works well for your ears. I would also recommend getting a nice compressor pedal if you don't have one already to help you get some great tones for those styles of music. This one is always a great option:

    When I got my DSL40C home and tried it out for about an hour, I was mildly disappointed. I wish it had independent EQ for the two channels. The Ultra Gain channel was a bit too harsh and shrill. The Classic Gain was slightly dull and muddy. Sad cuz I had high hopes for this. ☹️

    Decent gain structure, but I'm worried about the usual, "Marshall Mush" on low-end and smeary ( non-articulate ) note to note separation. What do you guys think? And believe me, I WANT to like this amp, as I grew up on great "Marshall Tones" of Rhoads, Halen, Schenker and Moore, but they have been resting on their Engineering and Historical laurels for WAY too long.

      I have one too. You can get all shades of Marshall crunch but the stock speaker is shit unless you play it really loud... and even there. 10 Marshall tube watts can still be loud as hell.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey, Rick! 10 Marshall tube watts can still kick for sure. I personally own a 15 watt Blackstar tube amp for at home practice and I can't get it past halfway on the master volume without my ear drums exploding. However, these amps to give a lot of headroom, even at 10 watts. The master volume design for these amps was still designed to give you the classic Marshall tone and enough headroom to play at lower volumes, and in a bedroom setting.

    It's a great amp and I even bought it from Sweetwater lol. Watch out for the Effects loop though....it accepts line level signals...not guitar level. Some individual pedals will create tone suck with using the effects loop....like boss pedals.

      Well use decent pedals and don't plug your guitar into the damn effects loop. Non-issue.

    Does the Tone Shift button simply bypass the EQ entirely (the equivalent of centering all the EQ knobs)? Or does it set the EQ to something that isn't flat, but is more like a "preset" of some sort?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, LMacNeill. The Tone Shift button revoices the amp and gives it a more modern scooped EQ sound. Mids are reduced and treble is increased. This can still be adjusted with the actual EQ controls but it helps people get a better starting point depending on the sound they’re after.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello there! Absolutely! 40 watts on a tube amplifier is more than loud in the studio. In fact, this model can be set to be 20 watts as well, to allow for more appropriate recording volumes.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your message Joe, hope you're well and safe.
      Both are great mid wattage, dual channel combos with reverb, fx loop, celestion speaker and direct out. That's where the similarities end. The Marshall has the classic EL34 output tubes, the Fender has EL84 which is generally associated with Vox tones. Bassbreaker still has a Fender tone stack so it's a hybrid to a degree. If you like the British TSL tones, then the Marshall makes sense. If you want a more "American" sound then the Fender is better. You don't make a bad choice with either.
