Good amp I just bought it. It wants to be played loud though . Best thing I did was upgrade that speaker to a Creamback. A whole different amp now I am very happy
cool video, thx! on low volumes mine sounds very fizzy ...now i use a tc spark booster (clean mode) in the effect loop and lower the volume in the spark. now the dsl20 sounds awesome also on low volume!
@@PowercoatMusic thank you! with this "trick" i can use my dsl20 also for low volume bedroom playing ;) and sorry i mean the spark booster, not looper ;) other clean boost pedals should work also i think ...greetings from switzerland!
Hi there, I ordered this amp based on this video thank you, but I find the sound very harsh and thin, and actually quite boxy. I also have a DSL15 which by comparison is much warmer with much better low end base. I tried plugging the DSL20 amp into the DSL15 speaker and it was better but still very harsh. Did you find there was a considerable hiss with all the volumes down?
Tech Specs start at 4:10. Sound Demo starts at 13:09. Guitarists who play anything in the realm of rock (especially Classic Rock) should have a Marshall. I needed the DSL20 in my toolbox to cover the gaps my other amps just couldn’t fill. At its current price point, this combo is a “No Compromise” affordable way to get your hands on some legendary Rock tone. I wanted to share why I use this amp because you don’t have to spend a fortune to get that authentic classic Rock sound/vibe when you need it. I hope this presentation serves useful. *The sound demo starts at 13:20. For more on the guitar used for the sound demo, watch the "Gibson Les Paul 50s Tribute T: Quick Review" video on this channel.
Excellent video I through the content was very educational!

Hi, can you ask me a question? I want a amp for use in my apartment for 75% and GIGs for 25% of time. I'm in doubt between the DSL20 and the DSL5. With this amp, DSL20, is possible to play on lower volumes?
Great explanation of the controls! Thank You! I just bought one 2 weeks ago ( mine doesn't have the open space on the back? ),and have been mucking around with the controls since. I couldn't find any video to explain what every control did so well! The only beef I have with this Amp. is when I have it on " Ultra Gain " I get a major"Humming" at high volume. I was told to get a Bugara soak. Do you suggest the same?
That's a good suggestion. However before that, you may also want to have your guitar checked out by a tech to see if it can be better grounded, as that may also help. Thanks for watching.
hello, will this be loud enough with a heavy handed drummer? will be playing metal and rock in a garage or an open backyard, will the volume be loud enough with the master volume around 7?
We know this a tube amp and it's very loud. My advice is to try it out in a store if you can first, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with the volume level for the setting you're describing. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
Been playing with a Boss katana mk2 100w, just got the DCL20 combo, just curious if anyone noticed how little of a sweep the reverb on the marshall is vs all 3 types of reverb on the boss katana (ex, the boss reverb if dimed almost sounds like a delay, marshall i dont really noticed the difference in a pronouced way, i hear a very suble not too noticeable sweep on the marsh. reverb knob, vs the boss katana mk2 where the reverb was much more senesitive. Question being , this is my 1st tube amp, is rhe reverb much more suble then an amp like the boss spring/hall/digital Reberbs that were built in, or do the from of tube amps have weaker (leas fouced on reverb effect?) the sound is much more crisp & beefier thru the mashall DSL 20 no (clean & with gain). Also on the tube marshall, is vol.2-3 loud enough to wKe the house at midnight, cuz mine is lol hard…gets loud very easy (no issue just wondering & especially how the reverb sweep is on the marshall dsl 20 Thanks for any help
Well, I think this might have to do somewhat with environment as it can be subjective. From my perspective I would say the reverb is richer and warmer on the tube, even at lower volumes. However, others may disagree. And yes, it is loud even at lower volumes. Thanks for watching and sharing. 👍🏿
@@PowercoatMusic ive read many reviews about the digital reverb built into this amp, most ppl say they dont hear/notice it until dialing it to 9-12 o’clock, also they said its nothing like a fender amps reverb which is spring reverb & i guess much more noticable. My boss katana i was using plate/hall/spring reverb and it just seemed to sound much more noticable and much more of a sweep from 0-max. I do understand what you sre saying about the tube (+the reverb), its more natural sounding, but never the less on the amp i have (dsl 20) the sound & tones are great, only thing i would have liked to see was that reverb knob compete better against my boss katana’s 1 of 3 different reverb option’s. And when the tone shift is pushed in (it sounds more compressed and more top end-ish espescially on ultra gain channel) is that the “british” tube version? Much bigger fan of leaving the tone shift popped out, sounds alot more open & full & a little less messy lol, just curious cuz 1st tube experience and i did get the last one (which was the floor model) so not sure how great it may have been taken care of..if that matters (looks wise you’d think its right out the box). Thanks for the reply and if you have time later to read this lol keep up the vids & thanks!
In the real world.. you want your reverb to be subtle, no matter what volume.. if you are playing 90+% rock tones, you need your reverb to be subtle for a mix or live, they aren't designed to be played alone in a bedroom.
It's hard to go wrong with the Marshall and I highly recommended it. Check your requirements carefully, if there's any reason not to go with this amp that you can find in that, then you have your answer. Otherwise, the Marshall is an awesome choice. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
Hey, Man. I have recently bought one of these, and I am super impressed with it. The only problem with it is that the reverb is weak as. Full on it doesn't sound much. May as well not have it. I've heard some were wired wrong on the reverb tank. How deep is your reverb???
The reverb on my unit sounds fine. Could be an issue with your unit specifically? You could always insert one that you like better if playing live or add a different one to the track if you’re recording.
Great question. I checked several different specs and none say anything about the TS switch becoming active when pressed. Marshall says the EQ is passive, so I have to go with that both ways. Passive. However it would SEEM that based on what the TS switch does, pressing it would make the EQ active. However, I have seen nothing so far to support that at this time. If anyone knows anything to the contrary, please chime in? I hope this information helps.
@@PowercoatMusic Thanks man , I appreciate it, that's what I was guessing too, makes sense, but they should tell us, or throw in a little green light. I've got the amp dialed in pretty good today, ordered a second one for stereo, should be nice, we'll see....

I don't, but that can depend heavily on any other gear you have connected. Thanks for watching.
