So accurate it hurts almost as much as those gas station sandwiches.

Oh god, not the gas station sandwiches! 😱
(They are actually the reason, I now keep what my mates refer to as "The Diabetes Box" on the rig during all my shifts. Some snacks, some pieces of fruit, a home made sandwich, etc. - enough to get you through the day if need be, if not all that healthy or appealing. I had a few to many fire standbys or back-to-back long haul transfers to risk not having my nom *on the rig* and within reaching distance from the passenger seat.)

Now please let me eat because there’s a 500 pound man that knows we have food and is feeling frisky enough to fall in between the toilet and his bathroom sink.

Ranger Pudding works better: (Military Version)
Ingredients are 1 hot cocoa packet, then dump some Folger's coffee chunks ( oops I mean crystals my bad ) to taste or until personal tolerance is reached and Then add a ton of sugar with a lil bit of the good ole "hotish" (something approximating hot water) H20 so you can stir the slurry. By all means , add a second packet of hot cocoa if your mix looks off or it is indeed "too watery" to get that nice firm perfect "brown town" look / feel with it.
Use the spoon that you used in stirring process to shovel the slurry into your face hole since it's usually located in the appropriate face hole at the time, not that one! The one with all the teeth (hopefully).
And my personal touch? I add Jolly Ranchers which I always keep in my medic bag so they soften up in the "water".
Congratulations, you've just made your very first gut destroying Ranger Pudding, which will keep you up for hours (one way or the other) plus now you'll be able to never fall asleep again.
So Have fun with it, paint a room while the kids are sleeping (no problem) or maybe you can even beat that boss level that the kids kept you from doing the other day! Maybe prank the wife as she wakes up! Cause who needs sleep right?

The base: Water. You better have a strong bladder because it's this or stomach acid fighting you for the next few hours and there's no way you've got time for a bathroom break.
Tier 2: Snacks. Much like firefighters, we have a tendency to hoarde little snacks in places, especially HQ, so that if we have a spare second we can sit down and cram some oreos or gummies down our throats.
Tier 3: Leftovers. What's for lunch? Well if you have the time to shove it down your gullet then whatever you cooked for dinner last night unless you managed to find the willpower to make a sandwich.
The Top: To the tune of hallelujah: IIIII-BU-PROFEN. IIII-BU-PROFEN. IBUPROFEN. IBUPROFEN. I-BUUU-PRO-FEN~ and the occasional muffin that the founder will bring in for us

The base: Water, coffee, energy drinks; anything to keep you awake and going. But not too much as you may not be able to use the bathroom for a bit.
Tier 2: Candy or whatever fits in your pockets or tool pouch. There's no food on the floor and you may not have quick access to the breakroom, so no place to hide snacks.
Tier 3: Lunch? On a good night you get to clock out and eat. But make it simple and quick in case you get called back on the floor. Most nights you eat whatever you can shovel in your mouth on a ten minute break. Usually something leftover from the previous shift that you hope won't give you food poisoning.
The Top: Pain medication. Keeps you going when you can't feel your feet at the end of a shift and your back is seizing up to the point that you aren't sure you'll be able to get back up once you sit down.

MY EMTs. ... They've saved me many times.. While we laughed together in the ambulance trying to get me to open heart surgery !!!
We were all so giddy because of lack of sleep.. !!! We had a great time of sarcasm and laughter that even the surgeon couldn't believe I was the patient.. Not the right age....
Not obese... And laughing as we made it through the emergency doors... What a night 😂😂😂

Thank you guys for what you do I used to do bailers in memory care and thats only 16 hours in a shift so you guys are monsters though I did used to enjoy the drunk feeling you got after the weekend was over kinda like your brain was picking up static lol would pick up breakfast at the bakery next door to my apartment and serenade my cats with songs of how I loved them while they napped peacefully in my lap and we drifted off together eventually waking up enough to drag myself to bed

Fun fact: back in the Middle Ages “meat” applied to any “meal” even if there were no animal products involved.

It's the nights that do it! I was fine while taking only day shifts for about 6 months, even lost some weight!! but the moment I started doing nights again, it's the 3 am candybar, the 5 am caffeine reload number 10, and every other shift it's the birthday cake for someone!! I swear I wasn't a diabetic before coming to the er, I sure as hell would be one now.

This is why I always thank firefighters, paramedics, police officers, nurses, and doctors, for their service, whenever I encounter them.
That, and the fact that I would not have lived to see puberty, if it weren't for them.

As a person who works for a newspaper, that ice cream rule is also true is also for me. That or cake. Cake is the easiest. Also, our sports editor said the "sports reporter dinner" was a can of Coke and a pack of Pop Tarts. Easy to carry, easy to eat, always in the vending machines in the breakroom.

Not a firefighter but the local station comes to my store to get food frequently. They always seem to eat healthy. They're always getting fresh meat, vegetables, milk and eggs. I'll see some frozen stuff come through too.

Jason, you need to borrow from the British Army and adapt a boiling vessel to an ambulance for the on-the-go-meal-sharing-as-you're-en-route-to-a-destination. (120mm main gun optional.)

First, I would like to say that I love your stuff. Now that that's out of the way, I can confirm the veracity of this video because my mom works for the EMA in my town (She's a secretary) and I have had the pleasure of eating with the crew once or twice (was there waiting on mom to take me to an appointment or take me home after work (I worked within walking distance)). (My mom occasionally pays up for lunch with the crew and she was nice enough to pay for me too).

Rule number one about eating while on shift. If you're hungry, put everything else aside and go get food.
Rule number two about eating while on shift. Pray to the EMS, Fire, or PD gods you'll be able to eat it while it's still hot.
Rule number three about eating while on shift. If you do get to eat it hot, be prepared. The First Responder gods are fickle and cruel. You'll pay for it later.
Rule number four about eating while on shift. Rinse, lather, and repeat when it comes time to use the restroom after the meal.

Going to the bathroom after is always a balancing act. Quick so you dont get called while still passing a massive shit but not to quick because stains from patients are already plentiful no need to ad to that.

Went to visit my niece in KY a few years ago. She lives on the edge of downtown, where there's a fire department right down the street from her house.
I decided to take a little stroll one evening to check out the town. As i was approaching the fire department, i saw a small herd of firemen walking in the general direction i was headed in. I was taking my time, checking things out in a touristy kind of way, so the firemen out-distanced me pretty quickly.
I had just made it into town when I noticed the firemen again, headed back to the fire station, all with ice cream cones and cups they'd just gotten at the little creamery on the corner.
