I just suscribed to your TH-cam channel for the Ecommerce transactions dastalayers implementation. I followed step by step configuration. The way you manage to explain makes it easy to undertand even for non-english speaking people like us in México.
I´d like to say thank you and ask you something related to the topic.
Since it is a purchase event, should not we create another trigger to tell GTM what URL should trigger the purchase ecommerce tag? (For example the thank you page).
Thank you, hope you can help me clear this doubt.
I will post it on comments box so other people can participate as well.

I completed the operations as I saw in the video, but I don't get a value for the required attributes (items, transaction_id, value)
If I enter a value in the GTM, it will also appear in the test interface, but as soon as I submit the data, the value field will no longer be valid.
If I check Universal Analytics in parallel, the purchase will get there, but I won't get a value through GA4.
Do I need to set up a server for GA4 for this to work?
I don't understand why no data is coming.

Thanks so much for this video. I'm thinking about utilizing this video to track my Shopify store transactions/revenue as it seems that the Shopify integration misses revenue and transactions. Two questions for you:
    1. Is this tutorial still relevant / useable as it's been a few years since you originally uploaded?
    2. Have you seen similar issues with the Shopify native integration? That's it's missing revenue/transaction data when compared to Universal analytics?

    Hi Great info!!
I would like to get your feedback on my question.
I have created a purchase event tag in GTM with value, currency, and some custom parameters with this I can able to view total revenue in the events.
But I could not able to view any value in eCommerce purchases under monetization.
    how do I fix this?
I googled a few GA4 docs and your video I found that in order to get item details and value in eCommerce purchase
the "dataLayer event should be purchase event" is that true? On my website it is "booking complete" it does not have any eCommerce nested data layers.
Please let me know how do I get item details in eCommerce purchase

  • @eprisrichardson678

I had to sift through documentation to understand the event parameters need to match GA4 schema, but the values match the UA schema. So revenue should be value for that event parameter. And hopefully, next week I'll start seeing my product prices pull in. As of right now, I can only retrieve the item/product name; It's not pulling in any other data about it. Other than that, this was really helpful. I was wrecking my brain trying to figure this out.

During the creation of the Ecommerce Purchase Trigger, when choosing "Custom Event" and naming it "purchase", is the "purchase" custom event something that we needed to create/define previously? or is it something that GA4 should automatically recognize? I ask because my Ecommerce Transaction tag does not fire upon purchase, even though "purchase" is a default event in GA4.

Hello, thank you for sharing this tutorial!
I set up a Woocommerce store on my client's website and installed the free WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration. It appears to be automatically sending Ecommerce data to my GA4 Property. The script begins with gtag( 'event', 'purchase', { and contains the following dimensions: transaction_id, affiliation, value, tax, shipping, currency, items [id, name, category, price, quantity]. The following events were tracked correctly when I completed a purchase: view item list, add to cart, begin checkout, checkout progress, purchase.
Do you recommend implementing the steps in this tutorial to set up the GA4 Ecommerce Transaction Tag, or keep the current setup as is?
I'm new to GA4 and Woocommerce. I'm concerned that the WooCommerce configuration isn't set up correctly and I need to set up a tag in GTM, like in your tutorial. On the flip side, I'm concerned that doing so would cause Ecommerce events to be counted twice.
Any help or advice from you or fellow viewers is greatly appreciated!

Love your clear and detailed instructional videos.
I notice you posted this video on 23 Nov 2020.
It is now April 2022. We have a Shopify store with Google Universal Analytics set up, tracking all events for ecommerce.
I have just set up a GA4 property. Trying to get my head around getting all the Ecommerce events (add to cart, purchase etc.) being tracked.
Which is the easiest method, using Google Tag Manager or adding the code using gtag.js which is how we have added event code in the past.
The code for tracking events provided by Google is referring to a demo store, do I need t modify this code or just copy it as is?

Wow - everything is custom. I'm not sure if there's an updated version of this, but if this is honestly the best way to update Ecomm data in GA4, I think Google did online businesses a huge disservice. UA had awesome Ecomm reporting pretty much out of the box, or at least not needing to add it all back in custom. Would love if there were a simpler way to simply retain the Ecomm data I already had.

Ok so its quite handy to use the existing datalayer for both UA and ga4 eccomerce tracking... BUT what will happen if UA will be shut down in 2023? Will my GA4 Ecommerce Tracking still work?

The data layer is independent of Google Analytics, so you can keep using it or update it.

Instead of "revenue" it should be "value" as event parameter, according to GA4 documentation. Am I right?

In this video, I'm using a Universal Analytics data layer since it's compatible with GA4 (the GA4 version isn't compatible with Universal Analytics). So it depends on the data layer you've implemented on your website.

Yes, quite sure your GA4 Event should have the parameter name of "value" and point to ecommerce.purchase.actionField.revenue.
Also, I don't seem to be able to get items => ecommerce.purchase.products to work.. I suspect that it's because a lot of the product parameters should be prefixed with "item_"

Thanks for sharing, how can I create the custom definitions for Items as it is an array? Thanks you.

    • @LovesData
      @LovesData  ปีที่แล้ว

There’s no option to do this in GA4. However, it is a requested feature, so hopefully it will be added in the future. You would need to send your own parameters to achieve this at the moment.

@@LovesData Thanks for your reply, as you said that I need to send my own parameters to achieve this, do you mean I have to create variables with value like ecommerce.items.0.xxxxxx, ecommerce.items.1.xxxxxx, ....... and then create the same in customer definitions in GA4?

Quick Question: In GA4, the 'revenue' parameter was renamed to 'value'. Shouldn't you be using 'value' as the name of the parameter you're sending to GA4 rather than 'revenue'?

I followed the tutorial and did everything but conversion values are $0. What you point out may just be the reason why. I will look in to it.

Is the "revenue" the proper Parameter Name? Ga-4 documents call it "value"?

Hi Sierra, this video is from 2020 and includes a combination of the UA data layer naming convention and the GA4 data layer naming convention. You can use the UA data layer naming and map this to variables and then your tag in GTM, or you can use the GA4 data layer naming and do the same.

I tried to implement the same but the product data is not firing, it is because of syntax. I have passed multiple key values as well.
    products: Array(2)
    0:
    brands: "dummy data"
    dimension4: "dummy data"
    dimension7: "dummy data"
    dimension14: "dummy data"
    id: "dummy data"
    imageUrl: "dummy data"
    name: "dummy data"
    p_id: "dummy data"
    price: 200
    productUrl: "dummy data"
    quantity: 1
    revenue: 200
    sku: "dummy data"
    totalPrice: 200
