I appreciate you sharing your experience. I woke up with all the symptoms you present with and I lost considerable strength to left tricep and upper pec. It’s also considerably atrophied in comparison to my right side. I literally cried after I went back to the gym. I couldn’t believe the 75% loss in strength and the inability for my tricep and pec to fire up and engage. I feel devastated but I still continue to work out hard and I’m hope that my strength and size will come back. It’s been 6 months and I’m getting stronger but not nearly as where I was before this unfortunate event.

I've read some possible healing properties of a ketogenic diet for PTS. I was diagnosed 4 months ago. Right thumb is still numb...can't fully reach over my head with right arm... overall energy is still quite low... I struggle with basic daily activities... has anyone tried keto to help healing? Grateful for these videos and comments from others who have PTS

I’m a 16 year old suffering from muscle atrophy and weakness across my right side as well, mainly affecting my right bicep, pec, and lower lat. This was due to a labor error, life is great.

I was diagnosed with cervical radiculopothy which is a pinched nerve in the neck, it’s cause sever pain in your chest, down your arm and into the tips of your pinky and ring finger. My symptoms subsided after 3 weeks of seeing a chiropractor and massage therapy once a week. I herniated the disc that caused the pain training jiu Jitsu and boxing. I’ve lost almost all the strength in my right arm and my right pec has shrunk so badly it’s embarrassing to take my shirt off. This is how I ended up here and I look forward to following your recovery, I wish you the best and thank you very much for your hard work and sharing what your learning.

I developed brachial neuritis after receiving my 2 COVID shots into my right arm. Apparently 15% of all reported cases are caused by any kind of vaccinations. The initial pain was excruciating and my doctor put me on painkiller and anti inflammatory drugs but after one month the pain has somewhat subsided but my arm and thumb are still numb and my muscles are weakened. I am doing daily exercises in order to speed up the recovery time.

Experiencing similar symptoms- got vaccine on my left arm but started noticing the weakness couple of months after. Noticeable bicep shrinkage, weakness BUT no pain, no tingling or numbness. MRI was clean. EmG showed nerve damage. What’s your status?

I just experienced this same issue happen to me about 4 weeks ago during a heavy deadlift. It wasn’t the weight that caused the issue but rather the bounce/impact from the floor as I held on to the bar. The rebound threw my left shoulder back and I immediately felt as though I had paralyzed my neck. Everything in my neck became real stiff - I couldn’t look up or down or left or right. My neck had to stay in a neutral position at all times, otherwise the already excruciating pain would become unbearable. This affected my left arm, which is my dominant side - also very common according to research. I couldn’t sleep for close to two weeks straight, due to nerve pain down my arm and around my shoulder and scapula. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had. After about two weeks the pain finally subsided but I noticed I had nearly no function in my lower lat, tricep and pec muscle. This was a sign that it was PTS. Those three particular muscle groups wouldn’t fire/engage at all. They also atrophied right away. Seeing all of this happen was devastating and scary being that I am a very fit and strong individual, who could easily knock out 90 push-ups in two minutes for my Army PT test - now I could manage more than a few reps, and they weren’t pretty. I felt hopeless and lost as I wasn’t sure what it was. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. But I did gain some hope as I started researching and found videos and articles of almost exactly the same symptoms/issues that everyone else was having, self-diagnosing my new found issue - PTS. I’m not sure what lies in my future as far as possible issues like this happening again. The good news is I am noticing strength coming back slowly, which I think it is super important in the recovery process to be active. Resistance training and other “physical therapy-like” exercises to help recover will do wonders. Eliminating stress is also just as important as living a fit and healthy lifestyle, as stress itself can cause things like auto immune diseases, and have been shown to be prevalent and present in people experiencing PTS. I thought I was healthy before this happened to me but this has shown me that my mental healthy, which I wasn’t taking care of, is just as important as my physical health. You really can’t live a healthy life without either. They’re both equally important.

Took about a year to get back to the numbers I was at before in the gym. Two years later I am stronger than I was when it happened. However I still notice a slight difference in strength compared to my other arm. My Lat was also affected and is noticeably smaller to this day. I have very noticeable atrophy but my strength is increasing. I switched to a German Volume training routine for six weeks. I have also been using electrical stimulation on the affected muscle to force contraction. The affected muscles still do not fire properly. Plus with gym closed during lockdown the muscles in my left arm and and left lat has decreased considerably compared to the right arm. Plus there's no strength left in the left arm and can't balance dumbbell exercises properly like dumbbell bench press, shoulder press etc.
Been back at the gym a few weeks in this condition and the strenghts is coming back slowly. I'm hoping the muscle mass comes back too.

Good luck with the recovery Freddie. It was suggested that it was stress that caused my condition, but vaccines, immunisations, surgery (as is your situation) and trauma are thought to be common causes. Cost of EMG here in Oz has put me off having the diagnosis confirmed, but have been advised that the symptoms seem to narrow it down. The rapid atrophy was the give away. I'll keep providing updates to the recovery process.

I have had / am having a very similar issue.
I am 51 and have been going to the gym with varying degrees of seriousness since I was 15 (I literally ran back from the cinema after watching the second Rambo in 1985 and started to work out in the gym at my boarding school). I’m fortunate to have naturally strong chest and shoulders and so it’s been easier for me than for most men. Life has been pretty busy and so during that time there have been many times during which I’ve had “breaks” of many months to even a year but I’ve always been able to walk in to a gym and be strong, especially given that I’ve lived in China for the last 23 years and people tend not to be large. I’ve never taken any performance enhancing drugs - indeed when I was competing in powerlifting in my early 20s I didn’t even know about protein powder... I’ve been lucky to have never had a serious injury until recently.
Rightly or wrongly my strength formed an important part of my internal self-identity although other people were likely not aware of it as I kept it quite separate from my professional life.
Starting about 4 years ago I became much more regular about going to the gym and was doing ok by which I mean, for example, that my bench press was back up to 180kg and I was seriously thinking about entering some old-man lifting competitions after I hit 50.
I may be wrong but I think that I hurt myself by doing just a couple of reps too many of a heavily weighted incline bench. There may or may not have been someone walking past that I was looking to impress - foolish old man that I am.
I had some pretty serious pain (pain at the level that it was all that I could think about) starting about 36 hours after that gym session and lasting for more than 2 months. I immediately suspected it was nerve damage because of the way that the pain moved around from my upper back / shoulder blade, shoulder, tricep, forearm and sometime, ludicrously, only in my little finger. The pain would come and go but it was not linked to movement of any kind. I had real problems sleeping and had to sleep propped up on a beanbag for months.
As I was living in China I had a lot of cupping and acupuncture but I had difficulty getting doctors to take it seriously as there was no pain when they moved my joints around in their examination rooms.
After perhaps 4 months I went back into the gym. I couldn’t lift 90kg on the bench and there was a clear difference between the left and right sides, the right being my formerly dominant side.
Of course I hoped that it was just the result of being out of the gym for a while but it was quite different from other times that I had had a break. People laughed because to them I still looked and seemed pretty strong especially given that I was nearly 50 but something was very different. Then COVID came along (starting Jan 2020 in China) and there were huge and stressful problems with my business that ended up losing me millions. I didn’t go to the gym until about a month ago (15 months). Of course I hoped that this extreme “rest” would have solved the problem but it’s still clearly there and I can barely bench above 100kg.
There is no pain at all and everything works fine on lighter weights but it’s as if when I try to shift gears to lift something heavier then there is just no higher gear there. The problem seems to be isolated now in the right tricep and manifests itself in an inability to complete the last phase of the movement on the right side. My left side is clearly much stronger than my normally dominant right side. It also feels as if somehow messages are just not getting through to my right tricep or that it’s getting the message more slowly than the left side.
A bit humiliating frankly yesterday as i struggled to lock out and complete a weight that would have been one of my warm ups before. Of course all that people can see is an old man trying to lift more than he ought to.
I’m very glad to have found your thread.

Do you have stingers or burners in your neck area to your shoulder? How long do the stingers/ burners last? Does it come out of no where lasting for seconds and then disappearing? Is your neck and shoulder constantly tight and sore with trigger knots? When you have the stinging sensation does it cause your neck and shoulder muscles to spasm? Is it worse with activity or anything strenuous? Has it caused any part of your arm to spasm or go numb in your digits?
Sorry, for all the questions. I've had these symptoms for ten years with no relief and the VA doctors don't have an answer except fibromyalgia and two bulging discs with DJD. It started with a six foot fall onto my neck and shoulder. It only effects my right side of my neck and shoulder. My other shoulder doesn't have these nerve symptoms. Just muscle knots, and tense all the time in both shoulders. I'm just so fed up with this awful sensation and I was wondering if you have these issues too. I can't do pushups, pull-ups, or lift anything heavy or reach for things that are higher than me in the cupboard.
I'm trying to figure this out and take matters into my own hands with some knowledge to present to my general NP. I'm getting tired of being passed around like a joint at a Grateful dead concert. No one seems to have an answer. So any feed back would great. Thank you

I havent done any weightlifting in 2 months now due to shoulder pain. I had a small tingle that went from bad to worse over time and still lifting weights.. my shoulder swelled up and it was painful to move around after my last time doing a heavy workout. I definitely had pinched nerves because i felt lingering static like sensations and numbness on my shoulder and according to personal trainers, that is a symptom of nerve interference and pinching.... lucky to say i dont have any serious rotator cuff i jury or serious tears on my tendons, i did all the tests that people recommend to see if you have rotator cuff tears or frozen shoulder.. anyways, two months and one week now and i am doing rehabilitation exercises and daily vitamin takes and eating healthy meals and drinking protein shakes with spirulina and collagen powder with creatine. And frequently using pain relief ointments and lotions (arnica preferred) and dosages of turmeric powder with black pepper. I did have muscle loss on my left arm and shoulder, my deltoid flattened a bit while my right is still round. But little by little the rehabilitation exercises and minor stretching is helping and is not as painful as before.. i recently purchased a bottle called repair gold supplement which was said to help the body boost recovery and repair any damaged muscle or tissues from ligaments or tendons. Crazy to say not even a day after taking that supplement, my tingling pain isnt as bad as the day before but its still there. I just need to continue the routine i am under, i slowly feel as if it's on the process of healing more and more. And i guess having some muscle atrophy although its bad for us weight lifters, i can somewhat help in having more space to allow nerves and blood vessels and veins to not be under pressure. From my current experience having this as my first actual major injury (tendonitis and bursitis and deltoid tear)after a few years or lifting is to spend more time warming up and doing warmup reps before going to the heavy weights once i get back into it and fully recover... i would also recommend to take anti inflammatory medication to help any muscle or tendon swelling which is the cause of nerve pain or circulation, use pain creams and of course ibuprofen or aspirin but be aware of overdose. Also drink plenty of water and do breathing exercises to help circulation. I strongly recommend turmeric in the recovery process, it helps regenerate nerve damage and inflammation. I still feel a small tingle and minor aches from certain movements but i feel the improvement little by little and i can feel the revival sensation on my left arm from shoulder to fingers ... i will continue to do rehabilitation exercises and avoid any and all weights until further notice and all symptoms are gone. I had say i am glad to have more improved movement on my rotator cuff but i wont do any weights until i get the full clear on that... i most likely will have to start all over again once a return to weightlifting meaning light weight only and slowly doing more weight. proper form , more stretching and rest with higher nutrient intake and deep tissue massage. To conclude, my personal trainer says tingling and pinching of muscles and nerves usually come from inflammation or illness causing pain and swelling of muscles or tendons that lead to nerve pain or muscle weakness and pain. Most of us heavy weight lifters usually always let our lifting ego get the best of us and wont stop until the day we trully feel pain or fail to do the little but very important exercises that we dont work out on when lifting heavyweights. Maintain proper form and posture at all times and wear a sling to not let your arm hang because that keeps the trap muscle active and nerves can be compressed. Also i was recommended to to alot of rear shoulder exercises to help with muscular balance on the shoulders , do alot of rotator cuff exercises and face pulls, and for future reference for anyone feeling the slightest tingle or discomforton any part of your body and you are a weight lifter is to stop immediately and adress it asap before further injury. Most of us do more heavy pushing and less pulling allowing misalignment on shoulder structure. Other than that i will continue my road to recovery and getting back to what i love most and that is pumping iron lol, hopefully your recovery goes well also. I know it can be depressing going day after day of no workout or seeing others lift weights while we sit on the side doing rehab exercises but eventually it'll be better and maybe even better knowing rehab made tendons and muscles more flexible and better circulated than before.

I have the same injury as you man. I lost 60% of my size in my right tricep, right delt, and right pec. Happened in 2015 and still not 100% back. I've bought just about every neck decompression tool on amazon, but nothing has really worked. I went from hitting 315x3 on bench when before it happened to barely hitting 135. I find myself literally stretching my neck after every set at the gym to this day. I think i injured myself in my sleep too because I can't recall really anything happening. Literally walked in the gym one day and my strength was completely gone. I get the numbness in my right hand too a lot, especally when training arms. I cant find a fix anywhere, so if anyone knows what could help it would be greatly appreciated.

I keep training with a lot lighter weights now the weight is dictated by my weak side switched to cables and dumbbells also 3 sessions a week of bands stretching and other normal stretch my only advise is don’t rush it just take one session at a time with positive and before you know it boom! Strength finally back.
One more advise keep the form correct as you slowly getting stronger or your weak side might develop some muscles bigger than others as I found. Because some areas are weak therefore other secondary muscles are playing more part than the ones you’re targeting. Full range motion and slow down the pace so you can feel the muscles you’re targeting also go between 12 - 20 so the weight should be fairly light.

I would really like to hear an update to this issue... i had almost the type of injury to me. Although i had always had cramping/tightness in my traps/mid back area.. one night i was awoken to a sharp pain in my back almost like someone had kicked me. Then the next day I had the worst pain in that area, and it lasted for almost a week. Then my elbow/tricep would hurt with any type of cold air. Then for a couple weeks after this, my Index, Middle & Ring finger would go numb. I even noticed the size difference from my opposite arm, very obvious but I also did notice that the affected area, above my elbow looked/felt like a bruise. Then the twitching started, in my pectoral and tricep area. Now i thought it was a pinched nerve in my neck & tried to do acupuncture, cupping, massage therapy & basically anything I could think of... TIll my Dr finally prescribed meds for my twitching & pain, which helped 100%. But again, during all this time, i had the same issue with strength. My Tricep dips 12X's, w/70lb dumbbell went to Zero tricep dip. My bench press was 235lbs 8 reps, went down to 65lbs maybe 5 reps. It's been since Nov 16, 2018, this has happened & now I'm slowly gaining strength back. But I estimate I'm about 65% of my normal strength before my injury... very frustrating & wish i knew what may be the case. Great video, hope your making progress as well...

@@Nandocupra I can't recall the meds i was prescribed. Its been a bit too long for me to remember. But what i can say is that after all the meds, accupuncture, cupping, heat therapy, etc.. i finally had a CT scan & it revealed that i had compressed in my T4&T5, T5&T6 discs.. which meant i had to get a arthroplasty (cervical disc replacement) surgery to replace them both. It has been since Nov 16, 2019 & i'm slowly getting my strength back. its estimated that 1 yr - 18 months till i get a full recovery. I still have size difference on both sides (Left arm flex 16" & Right arm flex 15") but i can feel myself gaining strength each week. Hopefully in another 6-10 months i can gain complete strength again.

Parsonage turner, bilateral brachial neuritis help
Good morning, I am currently trawling through the internet for similar occurances of brachial neuritis as I have also sustained the injury in both shoulders. I am a serving Royal Marine, and am adamant that the cause was through weight lifting and gym circuits. I was deployed on an exercise and was fairly fit and healthy, I attended a circuit session led by a Russian Gym instructor, and although I felt a bit stiff afterwards I put this down to hard work. I woke around 4am with the worst pain in my shoulders and arms, I couldn't get comfortable and it felt like I had a trapped nerve in my neck. I tried to have a shower but was unable to lift my hands to my head, and when I did attempt this I would get awefully painful, almost electric shocks through my arms particularly under the arm pit and elbow crook. I found a doctor who thought it was a nerve impingement as it was affecting both arms. Winged scapulars.
Long story short, MRI, EMG, diagnosis myalargic amyatrophy, or parsonage turner, or bilateral brachial neuritis.
I managed to finally see a specialist in Birmingham UK, and am pencilled in for two nerve graft operations in my shoulders.
The reason I am trying to find more info is that I personally believe there was a direct link between the physical exercise and the injury, however when I tried to claim through the military compensation scheme it was declined as they said the condition has no known cause, and that the gym activity was 'incidental'.
As you can imagine I am facing a short end to a full career in the military because of this and feel that they have washed their hands with it. I intend to appeal, but need to gather more evidence to support my case that the activity was a factor as I was otherwise fine before it.
Any help would be great, the exercises I remember we're over head press, press ups, planks, cat licks (press up but with a fluid down and up motion) and med ball presses to the front, to name but a few

Of all the people that report this, I never see anything after it’s been 6 months or more. Brachial Neuritis is an autoimmune disorder. That's when I realised I couldn't tense my trap muscle at all on the right side . So went to see a pt they said spinal accessory nerve damage though I haven't injured myself lately the pt said I should see neurologist so I did .and had emg and MRI done one test came back as right upper trunk plexopathy with slight reinervation from c5 c6 just waiting on MRI results now . I have severe atrophy of my right trapezius and my scapula is winging . Was wondering can brachial neuritis affect trapezius or spinal accessory nerve or if you encountered any of these symptoms.
