Craig was quoted a Latin term from a law book by another prisoner while in prison: Corpus delicti. Which means, body of the crime. Craig took it to literally mean, no body, no crime. However, he was very fatally wrong.

I think John had been positively itching to brag about what he'd done, and although this was incredibly useful from the point of view of the investigators, the fact that he also must have been really getting off on telling his story must have added to the horror of it.

There's a lesson here for all of us. We should always allow plenty of time for our victims to soak in acid because some things take a while to dissolve like ankle bones and gallstones. The best result is achieved by keeping them in a barrel and turning it over everyday for a week. If you get a barrel with a tap you can simply connect a garden hose and drain off the sludge without heavy lifting involved. You don't wan to pull a muscle in your back....

Amazing how these "nice old ladies" get loaded living off some dude that worked hard while she did barely anything to earn her money. They always outlive men too, because they invest less of themselves than men do, so men don't live when they are gone but they live sometimes decades after the guy passes. Rich, old women are among the cheapest people in society and most couldn't care about the "commoners" or how hard they have to work to get the garbage wages we endure today. The more likely negative consequence for the man would've been a lobotomy (removing the connection to over 10% of the brain--now considered inhumane), whose popularity peaked in the US and UK around the time of his conviction although it was more commonly used for women.

One thing I learned is that most serial killers are extremely smart.....thats what makes them dangerous. We walk past them everyday, we work with them everyday, we have probably been treated by them medical wise(doctors, nurses etc), taught by them(teachers) etc.
There are many cases of killers who have regular jobs who are able to fake a normal personality and get away with crimes. Thousands and thousands of monsters will never face jail time because many will never be caught.
Just think.....you just walked past someone that either murdered someone, raped someone, has kidnap and held some for torture at home, or are in there way to commit a mass murder🤷🏽‍♀️.
They seem to mostly get caught by telling on themselves purposely, or getting so upset that we can't solve the crime....they start giving clues.

He has to be one of the most cold blood killers of all time and he should've studied but really is like so many corporations top guys who will destroy people maybe not in acid but in life to the point where they loose everything and some take their own life but it's weird how one is business the other murder and you look at their personality and are the same in many ways.

That's the point of the whole story. Haig misunderstood a Latin phrase "corpus delicti" used in court. He took it to mean that you were immune from prosecution for murder if the victim's body had disappeared. He was very wrong.

According to investigators, both then and now, it's because he truly believed that the cops couldn't pin it on him since they had no dead body to be used as proof.
So basically, he confessed because he misunderstood what "body of proof" meant: it doesn't mean a literal dead body, it means the amount of proof use against the accused in order to convict them of a crime. And he left plenty all over his workshop and yard. So for all his brilliance, he very clearly never studied law.

Haig got the idea of dissolving the bodies in acid from another man while in prison. He quoted him the Latin: Corpus delicti. Which he took to literally mean: No body, no crime. However, he was mistaken because there was his confession and signs of a dissolved body. Murders are hard to prove without a body but have been successfully tried several times. On the other hand, people have been hanged for murder only for the victim to show up alive and well,. As a result, the prosecution is reluctant to try a case without a body.

Very well done! Just one minor point of detail. In the opening sequence, the executioner puts a black hood over the condemned's head, from behind. That, I believe, is or was the American way. I GB the cap was always white, and it was placed by the executioner over the prisoner's head, when he was standing, facing them.
